1. The applause is because the audience are totally into the music and know the songs. 2. Arijit is absoluteely a big thing. He is one of the best anywhere. 3. This performance is completely organic and that's how we prefer our artists unlike western performances which are spiced up with semi naked women, flashy lights and stages to distract from artists shortcomings.

1. Even for a medley, clapping in any kind of classical or jazz performance is usually considered rude & disruptive in western music performances. 2. Arijit is definitely big. But so is Jacob Collier (just as an example), but of course not everyone knows who they are. 3. This was def a good organic performance, and so are most of the concertos in the west. The pop performances you're referring to with semi-naked chicks and flashy lights are tropes of pop and are heavily used not just in top 40 western artists, but also in the so-called 'item-numbers' in bollywood.
