I agree but the twin guitar attack of Nemophila is nothing to sneeze at, either. Miyako is a classically trained pianist who would be an upgrade to any symphony in the world. She is probably the best trained and most proficient musician playing today. A insanely high level of musicianship. My three favorite bands working today are Band-Maid, Lovebites and Nemophila. Not favorite Japanese female bands. Just bands period. Regards.

Love your Lovebites reactions / breakdowns! I'm no musician but I love what M&M do at the end. Miyako doing the main riff and Midori solo'ing over it or they're alternating, my layman's interpretation. Miyako does something similar at the end of shadowmaker where she adds solo bits in between Asami's vocals. Something I'm nearly 100% certain about and would bet a beer on, is Haruna's stick twirls / over the head motions are to keep time since this is a much slower pace than most of their songs. Haruna normally plays so fast these tactics must help her keep the cadence. They are all phenomenal musicians, every single one of them...having Fami join is almost a dream. Miyako does it all and is virtuoso obviously (never be another), but Haruna is the MVP in my eyes. She is in a league of her own in the metal genre. Her double kick is as good as anyone yet her cymbal accent work is unmatched, it's not even close. I love Dave Lombardo (Slayer dr), but he's known primarily for the double kick. Look at the drummer from UTA (who I like), Haruna has more cymbals than his entire kit. Just another perspective. Most Metal drummers are known for double kick and how hard / fast they hit. Haruna has taken it to another level with placements / accent timings. Again, just a layman's opinion. 🙂 Great reaction, they never disappoint! You should check out Winds of Transylvania live for some serious guitar work. 🤘

According to Akane, drummer extraordinaire for Band-Maid, Haruna and her are the core members of the big eaters drummers' club. They are BFF and hang out frequently and often have dinner together. Young ladies must keep up their strength. If you go back and go thru the little phase you thought might be out of phase you will find it really isn't. Also, we can't deny that while the music is westernized (really don't like that term because they and others are making world music) there is still that slight Japanese influence that goes a way in making this music unique. It is more or less subtle but if you listen it is there. Lovebites will be appearing at Prog Rock 2024 next year in Atlanta and l suspect they are not coming to the US just to do one single festival. I have seen Band-Maid, Nemophila, Babymetal, Hanabie, the Hu, and Ginger. Lovebites is on my bucket list.

Hi from France: I'm an old rock fan, I started at the very beginning of the sixties. I had the chance to see a lot of groups on stage and to follow the evolution of this musics that I love. And Lovebites is a band that I love. I have been doing it since 2018, which is already more than 5 years now. I have all their CDs, EPs and DVDs (and even more, but shush!). Live, all five of them are extraordinarily virtuoso in their field. Nothing to question. I also like the clever use of live backing tracks. But rock in all its forms since the origin also leaves room for improvisation, not as much as jazz nor, conversely, the rigor of classical music, but still. Now when listening to Lovebites on stage, I have the impression of hearing a perfectly oiled machine, almost inhuman. Too perfect and without fragility.. Only Asami tries new and risky things with her voice, it's often surprising and it's perfect! Why not other female musicians? But what I miss most in this group is precisely the windows of improvisation. No free solo from Haruna, no moment of freedom for the bass,. From one concert to the next, the two guitarists are identical to themselves, brilliant, virtuoso, talented, but over time this risks losing the taste. Look, for example, at the sudden madness that Kanami or Misa from Band Maid can unleash on stage! When Kanami lets go, it's delirium and almost a trance! Pure pleasure! The crazy escapades of the Nemophila musicians, sometimes unmanageable, who jump and sometimes even improvise. This is pure rock! I would say the same thing for groups like Asterism or Sokoninaru, on stage it's dynamite! You never know what will happen! The worst and the best, and the best always wins... Lovebites are certainly the best thing to happen to the rock world in recent years, but more freedom on stage and this band would be the true giants of the scene. Thank you and enjoy Wolfpack! (Sorry for the Google translation, I hope I wasn't betrayed in my review.)

You are right in what you say. But I think that's because of the mentality of many Japanese. Improvisation is chaos and Japanese hate chaos. Even in blues, jazz/fusion you can see and hear that in Japan. I think Lovebites perfection comes from the order in the process. If the order were interrupted, her perfection would be lost and Miyako would not like that at all. I am afraid they hate improvising ... 🎵😂🎶

It's true for Miyako, she has the roots of a concert artist in her. Everything comes down to precision and rigor, while adding feeling. But we can sense in Midori a greater possibility of improvisation. As a reference, her solo and especially her outro in "Epilogue" live in 2019... (Sorry google trad, etc.)@@gitterich

There are now four new live videos from the upcoming live album "Knockin' At Heaven's Gate", performed on March 11th, 2023, released on August 23rd, 2023. They have the new lineup with bassist Fami, and they are very energetic and full of fun to play after 2 years of hiatus and first with Fami. Audience as well. There was a release party on their channel on Saturday (August 12th, 2023) 9pm JST (8am EST) with the whole album shown and band members in chat: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fpSzdIiOdph_m9E (Link was removed after the show). The was a live stream to the current show in Tokyo on September 24th, 2023, as well (available until October 1st, 2023). But that's history now... If not the new stuff, the next on the list "Swan Song (with Chopin intro)" is a must-see!

they call Midori the shredder and Miyako is the golden touch more Melodic. Both are great and feed off eachother Haruna is just a nuclear reactor back there never misses
Midori The blonde started to learn guitar at age 20. Midori is a graduate of Musicians Institute Japan in Osaka. Generally speaking, Midori said that she plays the "flashy and aggressive" guitar solos in Lovebites, while Miyako plays the "slower, more melodic" ones. "I like weird phrases, weird solos, and punchy stuff rather than classic pentatonic solos", Midori always writes her own guitar solos, and has stated, I want to play phrases that make guitar kids think, 'What is this?'" Midori is known for her technical proficiency and the use of various techniques in her guitar playing, such as legato, string skipping, sweep picking, tapping, eight-finger tapping and use of vibrato arms. As Midori speaks English, she helps write the band's lyrics, which are usually written in Japanese before being translated into English.

Of all the reactions you’ve done I’m curious how some of them have inspired your own writing in your band. Are there any ideas you’ve borrowed? As a guitar player myself. I love how this band (and others) can play the duel parts so well live without weird phasing issues. It’s so easy to mess that up. I prefer having a second guitarist when writing music. It’s nice to have someone to bounce ideas off of and I think helps the writing process along.

Great reaction as usual! Thanks! Lovebites proved they could survive a bass player change, I'm not so sure about a drummer change. Haruna is too integral to the sound of the band. Just a beast behind the kit. In other reaction videos I have commented on how I would love to hear the contrast between single coil & humbuckers. I got my wish and it sounds incredible. Only problem is I didn't envision Miyako playing the singles. As far as Midori & Miyako are concerned, their proficiency on their guitars is unparalleled. I like the different dynamic style between the two of them. Midori is all about the speed where as Miyako is all about the feel. My guess is Miyako writes her solo's on piano first, then transcribes them to guitar. I would love to hear Jill (Unlucky Morpheus) play one of her solo's. I think it would transition really well.

It's just my baseless imagination, but I feel like LOVEBITES doesn't do much improvisation. Everything about their performance seems calculated and executed. (Of course, no one other than them will know the truth) I think so because considering their personalities, I imagine that they would not do anything that might disrupt the concentration of other members. In the first place, one of the characteristics of the band LOVEBITES is that I feel that they don't like ``individual performers strongly promoting their talents'' like many bands do at live performances. (Personally, I don't dislike players who assert themselves, but...) I think the purpose of the members of LOVEBITES is purely focused on ``playing the song to its highest degree of perfection.'' Masu. (This may be a kind of prejudice that takes too much into account the personality of Japanese people, but...) ---------- from Nippon *This is a text using Google Translate. I hope I conveyed my intentions correctly.

Man, if you don't improvise while gigging, you're living a boring life! It's more important to start and end where the original does, where solos are concerned. Also, if there are major emotional movements within the solo, those need to be nailed. Other than that, shoot for the moon and enjoy your on the spot creativity. If you are a strong guitarist, bad notes do not exist! Be creative! I thought the only problem with Midori's solo, at the end, was it wasn't loud enough. Miyako's melodic part should have been mixed a little lower, while Midori should have been a little louder. If that were the case, there would be no clashing. In any case, this band is nothing but a giant, woman sized FLEX! Two excellent guitarist, Awesome bassist, Ridiculously skilled drummer and a general that could command all the armies of the world, the vocalist. This band is special!
