I had the pleasure of hearing Ugh performed live last Wednesday in Atlanta when it was the song picked from the jar! BTW fellas, NOBODY ever had to tell Pau to hit harder! 😅

I saw them on May 18th in Charlotte NC and they absolutely killed it, one of the best live bands I have ever seen. They are going to be in Knoxville TN on September 12th with Guns & Roses so I will be seeing them again, (we bought our tickets last week). It's only about a two-hour drive to Thompson Boling Arena so I couldn't miss seeing them again.

This band rocks. If all the big names they've been opening for is any indication, they have a great future. 😉

Enjoy your reactions to Q.O.T.M.S album. IMHO it's an instant classic. I'm almost 60 and heard a ton of concept albums and this one is at the top of my list. Every song is unique and still tells the story.. They did this as there second album. The Warning is something special indeed.🤟😎⚠️

English-speaking fans might be more familiar with concept albums for decades, but to have this mexican band, at this young age, come up with this album and all its elements, is simply mind boggling for us mexicans. We are SO proud of them!

They struggled in the studio to get this one to work for them. It just never seemed to sound right, so they scrapped earlier versions and rearranged the sound. At least a couple of the scrapped versions went on to become other songs, though. So it wasn't wasted effort. But as someone else aluded to in comments, they started referring to the song as Ugh because that was their general feeling about the problems it was causing them and when it came time to name the song the working titled they had given it stuck. Others may tell you that Pau does all the song writing, which is only partially true. All three of them have written complete songs. Dany wrote one of the songs on this album for example, Crimson Queen. Pau is usually the intigator for a song's creation. She will often come up with the basic riff, the beat and at least some if not all of the lyrics (but not always). Pau demos what she has to her sisters who decide by a vote whether to move ahead with the song. Each of them contributes at that point, not just for their instrument or the lyrics, but also for the other instrumentation offering their suggestions. They say that argue the most during their songwriting process because each of them is a perfectionist when it comes to what tey create. EVen after they have composed a song, they may modify it several more times before a final version is recorded. They had all the songs for ERROR written and demoed them to David Bendeth, for example, but he persuaded them into changing many things around before recording them. For QOTMS, Pau had written several songs that shared one main theme, murder. She says she was going through her angsty teen emo period at the time. Wen she presented the songs to her sisters they asked her why is there so much blood? Pau suggested they write a concept album around the songs but the structure wasn't solidified until Luis, their father, suggested they structure it as a novel with chapters. BTW, UGH gave them so many problem that they wanted to scrap the song entirely at least one point but Luis insisted they finish the song. It is a complicated arrangement because of the way it was cobbled together and it is a workout for them to lay it live because of the transitions and the singing parts. Their major focus on the album was playing with varying tempos and key changes. You will notice that some of the songs use Drop-D tuning, for example. And, as with this song, Pau really invoated with her drum fills. Ale seemed to focus on what fns often refer to the rolling thunder sound of her bass. But she also demonstrates her master of scales and using the full length of the bass neck at times. Remember, it was between XXICB and QOTMS that she started to use a full scale bass.

The two earlier versions of *"Ugh"* turned out to be the songs *"The One"* & *"The Sacrifice".* According to DPA (Dany, Pau, Ale), the working title for Ugh was *"Ugh".* Like ugh not that song again. When it was time to name the song. They couldn't think of a name so *"Ugh"* stayed. The Warning dicuss the songs on QotMS on their vlogs available on their channel. Pau has actually scaled back her drumming style since working with David Bendeth for their last album. She was hitting things so aggressively she was constantly breaking sticks before. In fact you watch the videos of this era you can make it into a pretty good drinking game every time Pau breaks or accidentally throws a stick (nearly nails Dany with one in one video, lol). She's still aggressive, but much more controlled.

Regarding Pau and her Bonzo-like hard hitting on her kit, she was so tiny when she started her first lessons that she really had to pound to get any volume plus she had to raise her arms high just to reach the crash and ride cymbals even at their lowest. I gotta think that sorta became a habit that translated into how hard she still hits.

Pau is a tiny busy bee, she's or at least was at the time of this show the tech guru of the band, programmed everything, controlled the visual show behind her, controlled the click track and special effect from the laptop on the side of her drum.

Thank you, Chris and Sam for continuing with QOTMS. One may like one song or another more, but The Warning never disappoints, nor does it have songs that are just filler. Each song is a piece that fits magnificently (musically and lyrically) into the construction of the entire work.

The name "Ugh" has pretty much nothing to do with the song itself. They rather struggled with the tune, as it is complex both instrumentally and especially vocally, and about gave up on it - but their parents (in particular) encouraged them to keep at it. It became an important part of the story line, and despite the difficulty of crafting it, they persevered. But not without the collective groan of "Ugh!!.. Do we _really_ have to go over this one *again* ?!?" every time they worked at refining and practicing it. Hence the name. And now you know... 😋

Jack Bruce...you are my kind of guys. When you started reacting to the girls I was skeptical - just another pair of reactors trying to jack up viewership. And after the first couple of sessions when you were still struggling with The Warning & refused to go down their rabbit hole I was more or less convinced about my initial apprehensions. However something clicked and you, being musicians, started picking up the subtleties that make the Villarreal sisters so special. Are they near Cream yet? No. Simply because they believe that in a song every instrument is equally important. DPA have basically reduced guitar and drum solos nowadays unlike their teenage years. So unless they really let themselves loose we will never know what are their limits of improvisation. Are they capable? Oh, absolutely. Someday I hope to see them jam like Clapton, Bruce & Baker.

Hey Offset Era! I went to see them last Wednesday in Atlanta! This has always been one of my favorites of theirs, and luckily I got to see them do it live once again! Fun Fact about UGH! They had a hard time writing this song and it went through so many versions that whenever they worked on it they would all go "UUGGHH" (hence the name). They were going to give up on it until their father convinced them to finish it! Also parts of previous versions of the song were used in two other songs on the album: "The Sacrifice" and the next song "The One". I look forward to seeing your reactions as the story and the music get deeper and darker! The album is a masterpiece! And just remember, this album was written and performed by a HS 12th grader, a 10th grader and a 7th grader!

I have them pronounce it "UCK". Apparently Uck, because they had a really hard time getting the song completed. Luis, their father felt it was important to the QOTMS song cycle. So they'd return to it, but with an "uck" each time. The result is one of the best on the album. And, lord, how much energy they put into it!

*Ugh* is probably the most technically difficult song they ever wrote, and it almost ended up in the trash bin, if it wasn't for their Dad pushing them to finish it and make it work. Dany's ability to play a running 'lead' while singing is just nuts! I played for years, and other than regular chords, I couldn't really focus on much else. Dany seems to be able to pull it off with ease..😮 At any rate, this song got it's name from from the general attitude behind TRYING to make it work, and it's very fitting!😂 I think the Lunario performance was one of the first times they successfully hammered through it with no mistakes!

Pau is a tiny little thing - 5' and no inches, maybe 85 pounds. She has to put her whole body into it to hit hard. Plus she never had a kid's drum kit, so when she was younger, she had to learn how to hit hard to get any sound out of it.
