i love how kevin was like "nah" with the first few choruses at first and was like, "OH HELL YEAH" when the final chorus came in, and that while at first the chorus was jarring - the final chorus tied it all up together. HE GETS IT! thank you so much for reacting to wayv, kevin and henry! LOVE YOU REACTTOTHEK!

Absolutely loved it cuz that was my exact reaction💀💀 I was so disappointed in the chorus but as soon as the 3rd chorus rolled around I got it. Not to mention I also thought intro and 1st verse sounded like c pop lmaooo

I completely agree with Kevin. When I first heard the song I looooved the verses, they are so pretty and nostalgic. Then the chorus hit and I was taken out of it. I liked it on it's own but not in this song. But then when both verses and chorus came together it was extremely satisfying. And it also made me realise the song musically tries to tell the story too. At first the verses are emotional and full of regret and when chorus hits and they sing "Blame it on my youth" the song turns "cool" and a bit of "crazy" and even "cocky". As if it's showing how wild they were in their youth. I hope that makes sense lol.

I really love how they praised Kun's and Xiaojun's beautiful singing in 12:32-12:59 and pointed out their very different but equally excellent vocal work on the same line. Wouldn't have noticed the contrast and repetition if not for this video. Thanks for enriching my experience of On My Youth!

This song is more C-pop, but promoted as kinda Kpop. But tbh this song is like a modern old pop song, like you would hear in 2000s pop songs, but the chorus brought a modernization on the table. But I am not a fan of the chorus, but the last chorus saves it. How I wish they just let Kun and Xiaojun sang the last part before the last chorus hit. I love you, Ten, but Kun and Xiaojun brings more emotion to the song because of their voice, and lets face it Kun and Xiaojun especially Xiaojun was born to hit all kinds of notes in the world.

That chorus bit…i feel like everyone doesn’t like it at first. But it totally grows on you. And yes the last chorus is really what makes it. I love this song. It reminded me of Area (thanks for correcting me @six.k) by SHINee. I could totally hear Onew singing in my mind. The whole album is absolutely perfect. There's also another song called poppin love that a lot listeners LOVE. The Y2K vibe reminds everyone of their childhood especially when it's in Chinese. It's so interesting how many people didn't get the first switch up right away. I actually thought it was tastefully done. Like i got it right away. Like imagined the song becoming a classic the 2nd/3rd time i heard it. And that's not common for me cuz it's the only time i felt that about a song this 2023. Like i really really felt like it was masterfully done.
@femmebrulee5053

I got it right away. I think a lot of people are used to listening to formulaic music that is written solely to be catchy or appealing to the listener but without too much thought behind it. So in a way, WayV's music is somewhat esoteric too many listeners. But I really thought everything was perfect about this song especially the unexpected chorus.
@arien_000
@arien_000 9 ай бұрын
@@femmebrulee5053 I see. Maybe cuz I have a good amount of exposure to different music from different cultures so I'm not so easily surprised. For instance, Carnatic music is much much more complex than classical Western but it's really beautiful once you get a good amount of exposure to it. Also if you ask me western producers should familiarize and learn to make new types of music using classical Asian musical styles, patterns and instruments like erhu, guzheng, koto, sitar, veena, etc. That would really be interesting. Piano, violins and guitars are great but there are so many other fine instruments, it's a shame if we don't take the opportunity to integrate the bests of both the Eastern and Western influences of music. That's why I love Kun's version of Phantom. He did such a great job incorporating oriental sounds to that song to take it to another level. It really was an upgrade.

As a chi-eng bilingual vocal sessionist I relate so much to the gold 6:27 to 8:28. From the fog opening, to specificity of vowel sustaining, the English and Chinese examples you gave, even comparing Taiwan vs China common tongue, and the pitfalls of K-Pop production, wow multiple yes yes yes. The conclusion bit, "poetic fit", sweet. I'm so happy.

When I was going to watch this video I thought you’d talk more about the use of more orchestral instruments but it was more on the chord progression and falsettos! Don’t get me wrong I loved your reaction! So many points that I never would have picked up on. Like the ending on “of” in Chinese. The equating the high pitch with a more youthful voice! The subtle changes in the same line in different verses. The references to different movies! The step down progression of the verses! All I knew was that I thought the vocals were so haunting beautiful and that the lyrics were so poignant and the choreography was so powerfully performed! Thanks for your reaction to WayV! ❤
