Butthurt would only apply if it was actually a "competition". I don't like the growling, I'm an old school metal guy, as far as singing is concerned. I don't see competition from something I'm not interested in to begin with, they certainly are not competing with anything that I would listen to. There also seems to be plenty of room for everyones taste these days with technology, nobody is really " competing" to get a record deal with a label anymore, I record all the instruments myself in my garage with a computer, from drums and guitars to vocals and percussion, no labels, no paying for studio time or engineers. Nu metal was like any other genre. Only a handful of the artists who fell under that label and became successful were truly great and the others were so so. Like the Deftones created some really amazing music with staying power. And, they've got a cohesive style that's unique and recognizable without every song having to conform to a "sound". I've never thought of them as belonging to a certain genre. To me really great music isn't concerned with fitting into a particular style. The style arises from what you're trying to express.

Tool was still a relatively unknown band, Green Day was already tired tripe, and nobody liked "Empire" from RATM. Artists were scared. Korn and Limp Bizkit were skull stomping everyone in the charts, and artists were scared.

Basically giving him power that no artist has ever had before with a label the size and influence that interscope had back then. Even zack Wild said his label came to him and said sound more like limp Bizkit. Yeah why would they be scared right? Everything they had was being hit by a tidal wave of a new look and sound. And once nu metal died so did the success of rock music. It’s never been the same since. Still stuck doing heavy metal for 40 years now.

No. It's been around since the 70s, and it's always been a hit. In fact, Blondie's Rapture has the distinction of being the first rap song ever to reach #1 on the Billboard sales chart. What Korn and LB did different was tune their instruments down. That's what made it nu metal. When I was a kid, I uses to be scared of Metal music, like a hell lot. My uncle/godfather is your typical old school metalhead and I was scared of him and what he listened (Krator, Slayer, Metallica, etc), that whenever I was forced to visit him, I would grab his cassette tapes and hide them. As years passed and I was getting more acquainted with music channels (MTV, VH1, among others), I got into bands like Korn, Limp Bizkit, Disturbed and, of course, Linkin Park. However, I never paid close attention to the "Metal" side of things but that of the rapping vocals. To this day, nonetheless, I think this music genre we all know as "Nu Metal" might have deeply (and unconsciously) helped me to overcome the irrational fear I had towards Metal in general. Currently I listen to Prog rock/Metal and jazz and its derivations (particularly jazz fusion), but I'm also open to a wide variety of other metal genres and music styles in general. With that said, I can't hate on Nu Metal at all, and will honestly never understand the hatred it gets. To me, I guess, it is all a matter of attachment and not knowing how to let go that is getting others to hate on it. But what do I know. Love music. Music is not supposed to divide but unify us all.

Think I agree with both of you here. LP has basically helped me through my life but people like Fred Durst have fucked up the idea of what Nu Metal is, some dick head rapping about girls. What a load of bullshit. Both grunge and nu metal can easily be clearly defined in terms of musical characteristics. Musically, grunge is a style of alternative rock generally characterized by loud, distorted, “sludgy” electric guitars, angsty, introspective lyrics, and an often raspy vocal delivery. Nu metal is an aggressive form of Alternative Metal with an emphasis on rhythm, using elements of Funk Metal and Hip Hop to create a cleaner, more groove-oriented sound. It doesn’t mean all of these bands sound the same. Alice In Chains used lots of metal elements in their music, while Nirvana experimented more with punk aspects and even some noise rock at times, but overall they can definitely both be called grunge. Unless you are using bullshit pseudo-genres like “new wave of American heavy metal”, “NWOBHM”, or “first wave black metal” most music genres can easily be differentiated by one another.
@iainc6663 жыл бұрын
@@vincenzoaureo6060 Yeah, but you're overlooking the simple fact that all so-called "sub-genres" of rock and metal are stupid. Everytime a band comes out with even the slightest modicum of originality (and I'm using the term original very liberally here) and the another band comes out about the same time and kinda sounds a little similar, another sub-genre sprouts up.
