I love you guys to death, and so does my dad. Thank you for these super musically in-depth analyses, it is so redeeming to hear you talk through all of the details of these tunes that show my dad's hard work, writing skills, and constant musical innovations (sorry, I can't help but gush about him). Also, to answer that last question you had, the scores are (from my knowledge) always written and composed AFTER my dad and/or Alex have received rough animations including sound effects/choreography. Lusus Naturae is Dr. Merlot's theme song, but you would have to play the video game RWBY: Grimm Eclipse to know who he is and it's one of the main reasons it's not very popular. I don't know even all of you know this but by the way the game is canon and took place in between Volume 2 and volume 3.
@Kaylakaze5 жыл бұрын
It's also used as the Grimm's theme in the show.

It's interesting seeing you guys talk about these songs, especially because most reviewers are more what I'd call writers or at least narrative-focused so there's much more trying to pull out the story from the song, but you guys tend to focus on Jeff and Casey's progress or just their technical skill in general.

yeah .. it's different for us when listening to some things because it's like we are hearing the story get augmented by the musical choices that Jeff, Casey, and Alex use... Lusus Naturae is less well known and under appreciated because it doesn't come from the show, but instead from the game RWBY: Grimm Eclipse. It's the theme song for the bad guy, Dr. Merlot, who mutates and experiments on the Grimm, wanting to create them in to a weapon for him to use. Also, if you play back episode 1 of volume 4 when you see the Grimm spawning from the black pools, you can hear it in the background.

In regards to RWBY music matching the visuals, I think what I heard was that Monty animated to music, making the animated fights more dance like. I imagine if Monty was listening to a song in a particular time and beats/sec to made it easier for the composer to make music that matches the action if for example all the big movements happened on a downbeat or something. I don't think he animated to the songs that are used in the finished product though. I doubt with the bigger animation pipeline that RT has now, that this still happens.

@postrevprincess5 жыл бұрын
I think the person you were talking to about the order of score/film was mixing things up a little. While they don't record the music and then animate to it, Monty was known for animating his fights around certain songs that he was listening to at the time - thats always been a talking point about why people think his animation is so widely liked. As usual that may have gotten telephoned around into some people thinking that the show is animated to the score.

As a BumbleBY shipper myself (it's my second ship, first is White Rose), I always felt that on the most part, BMBLB was a fan service song, similar to Boop originally was. With Volume 7 continuing to hint towards it, perhaps it'll shift to being canon, just like Boop.

I love it so much that I actually paid someone $115 to transcribe it for me since I'm not the greatest at playing by ear. I'm decent but nowhere near enough to play a piece like this. I think Lusus Naturae really ties in really strongly with the RWBY game, Grimm Eclipse, which is a hit or miss with most people. It was really big for like the month it was released and literally no one talks about it anymore (because it's really short, and tbh doesn't have much content). The song strongly reflects the game's antagonist, who only shows up in the game, which explains why a lot of people don't really pay attention to him and the song.

The biggest issue with Lusus Naturae is that the vol 4 soundtrack is just so incredible overall. I love LN, but there're SO many good songs on the OST that it's like #3 for me. Bmblb is spelled that way because A) that's the ship name and b) that's the ship name because it's a RWBY thing, the same way the fandom is called the FNDM. It's related to the way the teams are named. I'm sad you didn't do the Sacrifice remix. I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts on something that was so electronic and industrial.

Help the non musician out here guys please. I noticed that in a lot of Jeff's music that the drumming seems too fast to be humanly possible. Can a drummer go that fast or is it something like maybe a drum machine or some such thing? Apologies to any drummers I may have offended.

Both are possible but I haven’t confirmed yet. there are definitely guys out there who are married to a metronome and that have learned techniques like heel-toe to play fast with half the effort.

I assume you mean the bass drums since those are done with the feet? The answer would be yes... totally doable but not every drummer learns how to do it. Here’s an example -Bruce kzbin.info/www/bejne/bYepm62jhZl_bZI

Thankyou for your answer. I don't know what a metronome is, I guess it is some kind of drum machine, but I can look that up myself and I am really amazed that some drummers can physically drum that fast. Thankyou for your help.

Max Tusker metronome is just a time keeper. It makes an audible click sound to hear for keeping the time consistent.
