That ending of Ray Burton shows that a parent that listened and helped their child get into for him was music. Cliff strived at that. In his years that he was here made a impression that lives forever. A person that put everything into what he did and how he was around people. I never met him, the artist I met multiple times and got to visit him in Seattle was Layne Staley. His voice was his soul. He was humble when not all messed up. I tried to help him but most of all just being a friend. When he talked to me as just another guy, it was awesome. We went to a restaurant together and even though other patrons knew who he was they left him alone. Only one girl around 17 asked to get his picture taken with her and sign a Mad Season Record. He did and we just talked for over an hour. He wanted to do a project with Dave Grohl. He told me he talked to him once about it but the loss of Kurt I could see a year from Layne and gave him a hug. He quivered a little and said softly I don’t want to go. I asked him if he would like to come to Florida and stay with me and change the scenery. He said I will think about it, never happened.

I can't say enough good things about Cliff. Not only is he my inspiration to learn bass (and I know I'm a dime a dozen saying that), he also inspires me as a person. I'm still learning things about myself and about him. It's an absolute shame that he died in his prime and especially the way he did. I commend Ray and Jan for persevering after experiencing the death of both of their sons. He was a humble guy, which is something I can't say about many celebrities; he never felt comfortable being put on a pedestal. I remember reading in a book about the Master of Puppets tour that some fans dropped by their bus to hang out, and Cliff was the first one to greet them. They asked if they could tag along. Cliff went in to ask knowing full well they'd say no, but the fact that he entertained the idea speaks volumes about his character. He enjoyed hanging out with fans and was more at home talking about the weather or the sentimental value behind his late brother's hat rather than their success. It's clear that he had a huge impact during his lifetime and even thirty-some years after his life was cut tragically short. James, Kirk, and Lars have made it clear that they saw Cliff as a brother back then and still do to this day. It's easy enough to ask what-ifs. What if he survived? What if it was Kirk that day? Would he still be with Metallica? Metallica even today consistently attract react channels and they all seem to universally enjoy their music, which makes the Metallica family grow more and more. That just tells me that Cliff may no longer be with us, but his legacy will never die.

From "Barney Miller" to "Orion". That's GLORIOUS. You never hear a bad word about Cliff. Sure, no one wants to speak ill of the dead, but the stories are more than that. The common themes are unimpeachable integrity and generosity of spirit. He was a truly special human being.

Love the fact that Cliff's parents supported him in what he loved. Totally fitting that Barney Miller got him started.

‘’It’s not new that people in rock n’ roll die, but usually it’s self inflicted in terms of excessive drink or drug abuse…’’ ‘’Cliff had nothing to do with it. It’s so useless, completely useless…’’ -Lars Ulrich

He isn't my favorite Metallica bassist. But the dude got me into bass. Anesthesia is the Eruption of metal bass.

The look on James's face and him saying, "WOW", during Flea's BEAUTIFUL tribute to Cliff is amazing. I mean, you can just see the love and respect James has for Cliff - and still has for him to this very day.

2003- I was a sophomore in high school amd I've playing piano for about 5 years, but I remember flipping over to Headbanger's Ball, and they did a little special in Metallica. I saw Cliff do his kick ass intro to For Whom The Bell Tolls. My life changes. I buy a bass and an amp the next weekend, and I print out the bass tabs from Ultimate Guitar. That's the first song I ever learned. Cliff was a bass god.

I remember buying Master of Puppets at Walmart when I was a little kid, because the artwork looked cool. Even at that young age I really didn't know much about Cliff but when I heard that album, I knew Cliff was special. I saved up my money and bought the rest of Metallica's albums. I was in disbelief when I looked into AJFA's liner notes, and noticing Cliff was gone. Even though I was just a kid I could tell how important Cliff Burton was, and when I found out how he died I was sad. Rest easy Cliff!

My first viewing of Anesthesia on the Cliff em All VHS in 1989 I was 14. Mind. Blown! Got a bass the very next christmas. Don't play bass anymore but am still a practicing & performing musician. Cliff made me want to be a musician.

I’m a guitar player, but I do consider Cliff one of my biggest influences on the kind of riffs and arrangements I create and play in my band. Those bass lines were way ahead of its time. Coincidentally , we also share a great love for H.P. Lovecraft. A brilliant musician, a hell of a player and a poet crossing the dark aeons of time. Cliff lives!

The Barney miller intro!!! Hells yeah as a kid i loved that intro too. Those were the days man. 3 channels on the TV to chose from and we had this thing called a telephone and when it rang you answered it cuz there was somebody on the other end wanting to actually talk to you and you had to answer it to find out who it was it was glorious.

It's a shame the talented musicians who no one has a bad word to say about them that passed before their time. Cliff Burton, Randy Rhodes, Eric Carr, Dimebag Darrell. They all had so much more to give.

I still remember when I heard he died, was walking down the hall in high school & my friend told me, I didn't believe it at first, but man, the heartbreak. I'd been playing the bass for less than a year, but he was my biggest influence, & even though I could barely play any of his basslines, he motivated me to try like hell, needed a pick, his fingers were ridiculous. Thank you Mr Burton for being you.

I didn't knew him. I was just a kid listening to Metallica. But even so, today still, I have this void that can never be filled. Same goes for Malone. Two of, imho, greatest Bass players I've ever known, gone so soon and all I can do is listening to them and remember and be thankful for the heritage they left.
