This interview really hits home today. I have met and talked with Charlie over the last 30+ years, first meeting him when I was a teenager. Every time, no exceptions, when I would meet him he would always ask "how ya doin' son?". I'll never forget Charlie, everyone who worked with him will tell you he was the best guy in music. RIP Charlie Daniels.

One of my fellow retired police officers and good friend owned a horse ranch in Norco Calif, He was also involved with the Rodeo. One day he was late for work back in the late 90's. Joking I said did you sleep in today? He said naa, I had to get my horse ready for Charlie. I asked who's Charlie? He said Charlie Daniels, he's in town for a concert. I don't really tell folks but we're friends and when he comes into town he stops by. He wanted to take a morning horse ride today to relax so I got my horse ready for him.......RIP Charlie.

Charlie was very intelligent, not from book learning but life experience and his politics were the same. He was up on the issues of the day and looked at both sides before making a decision. I think he liked people over politics. He'd been around enough good AND bad people to recognize bullshit when he saw and heard it. He was proud of working for a living. He was a businessman too, employing a few dozen people in his band, crews and ranch. His was an important voice in life and in music.
@BST-lm4po2 жыл бұрын
Charlie was an intelligent man. His politics changed from when he was a young man writing Uneasy Rider to later in his career. Like most people,.. as he matured and became more experienced in life, he became more Conservative. Some people just never grow up,.. and end up embracing the far-Left their entire lives.

You can hear how much of an influence the Allman Brothers had on their music on tracks like Birmingham Blues. Amazing guitar playing but all round a kick ass band. When I told him that I've been a fan of his since the 70's, he smiled, shook my hand, and let me know how much he appreciated hearing that. Real humble, down to earth guy. If you grew up in Florida in the early 70’s, you damn sure knew who Charlie Daniels was. The weed references in Uneasy Rider and Long Haired Country Boy were pretty humorous, memorable and unique for the time in his genre of music. As a Skynyrd fan, I appreciate him standing up for Artimus. Coming from a family of Veterans, I respect CD for his feelings about the flag. These musicians were a big part of living in the South for me and CD and the CDB were the shit in their day. 🎸

Joe, Thanks so much for posting this. A few hours ago, I returned from a four hour drive to attend Charlie’s funderal in Murfreesboro and watching this interview is how I’m capping a long, emotional day. When you asked about Capricorn Records and Macon, my ears perked up. During the summer of 1977, I was in between semesters at college, working at a rock station in town, and living in a boarding house in Macon. On the first floor at the Butler House was a great meat ‘n 3 restaurant and as I left my room and was walking down a long staircase, I heard a voice say,”Best iced tea in Macon”. I looked down to see the hat that adorns the cover of Saddle Tramp stop Charlie’s head as he and the band made their way through the cafeteria-style line. Just as he stated, Macon had some great food and the band frequently ended up there, just a four block drive up from the Capricorn studios. Macon definitely left its’ imprint on the band and a walk behind a simple, clean Mom ‘n Pop road court (led by the owner) brought me to the spot where the photo was created for the inside of the “Nightrider” album. Charlie graciously asked me to join the band for lunch a couple of other times and sat for an interview that I turned into a written article for the college paper, then used the audio for a segment during one of my shifts at the radio station. I was only 19 and green, but Charlie made me feel as if he were sitting for an interview at a major market station. And in the ensuing years-when I would happen to run into him somewhere along the way-he would smile and say,”Best iced tea in Macon. It’s been a day for remembering.

Many of Charlie’s songs were anthems of my life! A true God loving Patriot and Poet! Now my 6 yr granddaughter is a CDB fan and cried when I told her about his passing, then she looked at me, she wiped a tear off my cheek and said, “Don’t Cry Papa, he’s just playin for Jesus now!” God, I love that child! The wisdom of a babe. Little did she know, the tear on my check was for how SHE looked at me and what she said and the sadness that she doesn’t have anyone of the younger generation of country music that can compare to Charlie. And for the fear I have for her and the troubles the country is having! Not ONE newer generation country music “star” has the sand to speak up and speak out against what is happening, like Charlie did! Instead we have them CHANGING THEIR BAND NAMES, etc!! Sad. We lost Charlie Daniels and now have SJWs and “Taylor Swifts”...

Hello Joe, Wow, how interesting! Hand him an instrument made of wood with strings and he'll figure out how to play it. I was waiting for him to say he played the zither in "The Third Man"... he didn't, but that was just one that passed him bye. My eyes REALLY went wide when he was talking "All Things Must Pass" . I realised connections: George to Charlie (slide guitar for Bob?... says Pete Drake); Charlie calls Pete, who joins George; Pete plays Steel using a pedal; Peter Frampton sees Pete's Talkbox pedal(he invented 1959)... creates the biggest live rock album in history. Thanks, Charlie! God bless! Be well, folks!

Interview right on time. The older these musicians get, the more losses they have to endure. Tough life to live.

Been a fan since the mid 70's when Fire on the Mountain came out. I live about 30 miles from Gulf where he had his 1st " paying gig ". Great, great man, musician, writer, & patriot! RIP Mr. Daniels. Thanks for all the great music! And thank you for posting the interview! It was great!

I had the once in a lifetime opportunity to see Charlie and his in I think it was 1985 in Lake Tahoe Nevada. I'll never forget it. So sad to know his is gone form the earth, but I'll see you there when my time comes, Charlie. My condolences to his wife Hazel and the rest of his family.

Charlie was a big big part of my music collection in the 70's and His Hit "Still in Saigon" was my favorite as I was just home from Viet Nam and full of piss and vinegar as a young man starting my life with my wonderful wife of 54 yrs. to date. His music said Fun Fun Fun and everyone dipped Skoal because of Charlie and he would give it out free at the County Fair every year~!! RIP Brother-Heaven's got a great Fiddle Player~!! Joe-Thanks so much for all your work on these videos as they are very much appreciated~!!!

RIP Charlie, i ran monitors for him and his band many times. It was always a good experience. I almost went to work for them when their house engineer broke his wrist. I also worked as a stage manger for the venue running stage changes at festivals quite a few times over the years. I know his whole team are hurting and rightfully so. I feel for all of them. They were a big family. Prayers to them all. that was a sad day for me. I also lost another good friend that day that was a great drummer with a golden voice.
