I own th Boss DD-20, and after a lot of fiddeling around i now use the reverse delay exclusively, in a very specific set up: I dial in the next song's tempo, set the delay on 8th notes, one (sometimes two, tops) repeats, and around 25% mix. it gives this huge sound, and because it's reversed the delay's attack doesn't interfere with the "dry" tone so my own playing still comes out through it. I absolutely love it.

This reminds me of a pedal I was shown 20+ years ago that I can't remember the name of but that I desperately wanted (yet it was too expensive for me at the time). I had shown my guitar teacher the intro of "Within" by KISS (which was produced by reversing the tape) and he brought out this pedal that would make the notes you were playing sound just like the tape was being reversed and reproduced that intro right in front of me. It was very cool. I had been writing some neat stuff that involved reversing the recording, but it was often difficult to get it to sound just right, but with this pedal I could make sure it sounded exactly how I wanted. Maybe one of these days I'll find out what that pedal was and track one down.

The best reverse delay pedal is the Stereo Memory Man w/Hazarai. Not just the tonal quality, or the feature to go full-wet signal, but the momentary reverse. That feature alone is so versatile. I use that setting as a standard lead delay, and then when I want a phrase reversed, I hit the tap switch for up to 6 seconds of reverse. So easy to use, unlike the very nature of reverse delay, and it's very creatively inspiring.

Using Reverse Delay on my TC Electronic Flashback for a few years now, I’ve learned using a tap tempo is the #1 most important aspect to making this effect musical. If what you play on it is even slightly out of time with the song, it won’t make any musical sense. I love reverse delay, personally, but it can be very difficult to sound good unless you know what you’re doing.

It’s an interesting delay pedal and that tone towards the end was good, but I still prefer a simple analog delay pedal mainly either a Boss DD-2 or a Aqua Puss Delay. Slapback is a good delay if you set the knobs in the right way to balance it out.
@meddle3333 жыл бұрын
What's interesting is even with original "analog" reverse guitar it's extremely difficult to place the notes exactly where you want them to go... so that's how the reverse pedal is able to create a similar outcome. I was playing with a band around 2009 and one of the songs had a reverse guitar intro, but it was a steady rythmic reversed acoustic, so what I would do is put the DL4 on the loop setting, cut my output, strum a d chord in the proper tempo and loop a couple bars, then quickly double tap the 4th switch to reverse it, turn the pedal volume all the way down, turn my output back on, and slowly turn the pedal volume back up and presto - fade in the reverse guitar! 😁 The cool part is we closed with that song on our first show, and after all the chaos died down and we all had left the stage I realized I could hear that loop still going... lmao what happened was I accidentally layed my guitar down half on my pedal board and it had clicked the loop back on! It sounded awesome, so every show after that I would just leave the loop running through he whole song so when everything else faded out at the end of the show you could still hear the backwards guitar playing. I'm sure theres a video on youtube somewhere... audio is almost definitely trash, but I'll link it below.

I used to describe the band something like "Dylan backed by Pink Floyd" lmfao We were basically only together for the summer, and it was probably the best time I've ever had, tbh.
