good video, but I really wanted to know if you actually get a non-reverse guitar sound when you activate both pedals at the same time...

Yes, you do. Years ago I bought a large stock of Danelectro pedals from an ex employee including 4 Talk Backs. Playing two together was one of the first things I tried.

surely I can't be the only one who thinks the two sound COMPLETELY different?! the new one has a very nice pristine sound to it, like something you'd get from a modern multi-mode delay pedal - whereas the repeats on the original have a certain quirk to it that I can't quite describe (and no, its not just the repeats being darker - it feels like there's some kind of unintentional compression going on that makes it sound so much more "musical")
@TSFAHTPS4 жыл бұрын
They absolutely do sound different...totally agree

I think the old one sounds more tape-like, a little warmer and fuzzier
@harveycan58202 ай бұрын
Totally agree. The range of the swell is longer and more dynamic on the old one. It sounds warmer and is more enveloping, like a crazed accordion. More analog sounding. Convinced me to get an old one.

Awesome review, I have the old back talk, it's been on my pedal board since 2005. I was lucky enough to get it for $140 second hand off eBay. Been thinking about the new version so I can leave the older one safe at home..
@internetnoisesignal62512 жыл бұрын
same got on when it was a pedal no one wanted for like 90 bucks in the local shop, and have never been able to find a reverse that has a smooth rise like the back talk. all the others I've used have a snap, or pop-is sound as they com in.

You should get a Danelectro baby sitar and run it through all of those pedals! I got one recently, and actually have been playing it FAR more than I do a standard guitar, and it’s a complete head trip! I recently ran it through a Cry Baby, into a Small Clone chorus pedal, into a Time Shadows delay pedal, and it’s a total head trip! I just ordered the new Back Talk pedal today, and can’t wait to hear what that will sound like instead of the Time Shadows.

I never got an original Back Talk and then they got pricey, but before this reissue came out I had gotten a Tensor which can do everything the Back Talk does (and much more), so no gas for me this time.

The older one has a “smoother” sweep, but I don’t necessarily think that means it sounds better at all. The newer one sounds a lot more like a studio console in my opinion.
@nsc2173 жыл бұрын
I just got the old one and it sucks huge tone when not even on (just plugged in) and when it is on, the effect is good but it makes the tone ice picky and crappy
@folkrod2 жыл бұрын
I always use pedals with "sub-par" buffering in an isolated loop. I use the triparallel mixer from EHX to isolate up to three at once and you also get the added benefit of better volume/mix control and more tonal options!
@harveycan58202 ай бұрын
If the speed is faster on the new one the swell effect won't be as pronounced. Which is definitely what I'm hearing.

Good demo & comparison....except I question your artistic intellect at 9:13. The problem I find with the "guitar community" (if you will) as established by rigid conformity to norms in tone, choice of pitches, etc. is too much of "I wouldn't use it like that." There is too much judgment about the wrong (technical) things that limit freedoms to use the electric guitar as an extremely versatile noise-producing machine. What if you wanted to create a disorienting effect on the listener for a couple seconds? You could really fuck with people's minds if they were in a room filled with loud music and suddenly everything spun around backward for a second. Listen sometime to how Jimi Hendrix used reverse delay (or tape) effects. Listen to how Eddie Van Halen used the phaser on/off before you knew what the fuck just hit you. Come on guys, dare to be an artist when the expression calls for it. You don't have to submit to the guitar community. You can actually be a musician if you want. I dare you!
@TSFAHTPS3 жыл бұрын
I totally agree with you…and I didn’t mean it in an “I wouldn’t use it like that so you shouldn’t use it like that” way…I was just trying to show how I would use it and have used it in the past. I think Alex was struggling a bit with the reverse delay - not knowing how to approach it and what to play and I was just trying to get him to see that there is more to it than just that one particular sound! I hope that makes sense - Gabor (guy on the right)

The new one sounds like it has a much more pronounced choppiness with the repeats, whereas the old one cycles in a much smoother way...additionally, the old one just sounds much better in general. Danelectro should get back to the drawing board on this one, it just doesn’t satisfy like the old one.
@marktywharton Жыл бұрын
interesting .. the old one sounds better

😤 why cant one company who has a sought after pedal that they are reissuing just make the reissue with out changing it.... its not a reissue, its a V2 at best, and unfortunately is not even an upgrade... less of a range ???? thats just ridiculous

It doesn't even matter if the sound is better in the new one. The old danelectric boxes outshine any and all hammond boxes.

I have an original, it's an amazing box. The reissue is not actually a reissue since it's a different circuit. Danelectro were unable to back-engineer from the old one due to a missing code, I read.
@slimturnpike2 жыл бұрын
A year later, I've just listened to this comparison again. The old box has it, the new one sounds much the same as other reverse delays on the market. Original has more modulation/decay. Personally I used the box for psychedelic intros and outros, with the dry signal way down, love it. The pretty chords/ambient thing is there for sure on either box but where the original shines is in deep psych, imo.
