Excellent video and a great tool, one thing to bear in mind is that the odd 'drop in' (as we used to call it) is ok but not too many of them, if a singer literally needs every line corrected of comped, you have the wrong singer - the best ones can do the whole thing in one or two takes, the worst ones take all day and you can end up with a confusing mess if you have loads of versions of the same vocal.

Hey man, loads of artists have literally hundreds of takes. This is a ridiculously old-fashioned and out of touch way of looking at producing.

IF you're not seeing the Quick Swipe Comping button in your tracks' upper left area (the triangle dots-looking button), you need to uncheck "Quick Swipe and Take Editing quick zones" in the Logic Pro X > Preferences > General > Editing pane. If you don't see that Editing pane, you don't have Advanced Tools enabled. Quick Swipe Comp'ing (select different section of takes to make a comp) and Quick Swipe/Take Editing (editing the take itself to extend/shorten/move/remove sections) are two different things - that checkbox lets you do one or the other. I'm new to this, so my explanation may need refinement. Please do!

She has a slight Carrie Underwood tone and style going on with the phrases "a broken world alone" "came from the sky to the sea"....and less so on the last "baby it's just you and me"...and "Line" when she hits those pitches. Interesting. I wonder if she listens to Carrie or if that's just a coincidence.

yes, you can place all of the loops you want to use on different tracks, and then right click and choose Folder > Pack to Take folder. then you can copy and paste the take folder and comp between the different loops. That's a really great idea, btw, I should do a video on this.

You don’t have to do any thing to select it. If you have a take folder created by overlapping regions, just double click to open up the take folder.

have you had trouble editing flex time in comps? I can edit in flex time for the main take but not the punch ins...

If you click on that button he was talking about, you should be able to use flex time on the individual sections of the comp. It's the button two over from the arrow that opens and collapses the take folder. It looks kind of like a triangle. Assuming you already know about that and it's not working, the other option is to settle on the comp you want and to "flatten and merge" it into one take. At that point, you should be able to easily do any type of editing you want.

I guess I’ve never had any issues navigating my takes so I’ve never used it. I just pay attention to the take number.

Her pitch and tone are both... questionable. However, you'd be surprised at the miracles editing can work. A little pitch correction, some reverb and delay, some vocal doubling, and anyone can sound great.

Once you create a track stack will the curser change to enable quick swipe comping automatically when you hover over a region? If not, what steps are taken to enable quick swipe comping?

It's not a track stack. It's a take folder. If you want to enable quick swipe comping for a bunch of separate tracks, select them all, right click and choose "Folder > Pack Take Folder" or press Control-Option-Command-F. This will put them in a take folder and Quick Swipe will automatically be turned on. If you record one taker over another (Depending on your recording preferences) it will automatically pack your takes into a take folder. (see video #14)
