one thing you missed here.. in logic X, you have to go to Reocrd / Record Button Options and you have to make sure Record/Record Toggle is selected. Honestly, selecting that, you don't need to do shift R to punch out.. Actually, if that option isn't selected shift R or R won't work..

Hi steve, first let me thank you for these great videos, they are a huge help and i follow them step by step. I have a problem i wish to ask you - that after recording 2 or more audio mic tracks in layers by the same mic through the same input - though the recording is fine - the overall playback will only play one of the tracks. can you think why that is and what I'm doing wrong? thanks! Your videos are brilliant, i can't help but watched 5 episodes in one go & subscribed right away. Thanks for your contribution. However i do have a question, can you tell me how can i add a VOX track for vocal, as show in this 5th tutorial. For when i open a new track, in Logic pro X window only shows selections like software instrument, Audio, Drummer, External MIDI & Guitar or Bass. i will be very grateful if you can help me. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the video series. I am curious though. If I record a track and want to punch in on another day, are all the settings kept internal so that I am not punching in with a completely different sound? Or is it better to always record the vocals in one sitting? I guess the pros do it that way, but sometimes I have to come back to it.

Okay man, I'm loving your tutorials. Super Helpful! But I'm having trouble deciding weather I should use Logic Pro X or FL Studio. I wan't to start producing music electronically. Like MetroBoomin or Deadmau5 for examples. Have you used FL Studio? And which would You recommend?
@MusicTechHelpGuy7 жыл бұрын
I haven't used FL at all. For what you get for the price, I think Logic is pretty much the best DAW out there.

So, can Quick Punch be used for the Punch & Roll technique for voiceover or audiobook recording? When you make a mistake, you'd stop immediately, return to a convenient (usually quiet) point immediately before your mistake, hit Quick Punch and re-record to rectify the error, then continue recording until you make another error. At that point, you'd stop again, and repeat the process, going back to your recent error, hitting Quick Punch, and continuing. Thank you!

Great videos, mister! I just wanna know why you're recording so hot...? It's not good for anything (except if you were in the analog domain of course).
@MusicTechHelpGuy8 жыл бұрын
I'm not recording that hot. If you look at the channel strip you'll see that there's EQ and compression on the channel as well. That's what making the meter look so hot, not my input signal.

What mic do you use or recommend for recording vocals?
@MusicTechHelpGuy10 жыл бұрын
It really depends on what your budget is. If money isn't an issue you can pick up a Neumann U87 for about $2000 used, or a old U47 for about $10,000 used. If you're looking for something a little more affordable, I use AKG C414 B-XL or BULS models. Stay away from the XLS model (without the B) because those are meant more for instruments, not vocals. The Rode NT1000 and NT2000 are very reasonable as well. Mojave MA200 is pretty reasonable too. I used a M200 and an NT2000 on this recording: MAYDAY CHILDREN - Rhythm of Your Soul (Robin Carbonell of Malaya)

Let's just say that you did a great take, but you wondered if you could make it better. So you rerecord it, and low and behold, you really like BOTH takes. Is there any way in Apple Logic Pro X to actually move one of those takes.... to an ENTIRELY separate channel or track? So let's you record vocals on AUDIO 8. Do a rerecord for a particular segment. And then decided that the vocals where so close, that you decide to layer them. So the intention is to take the "rerecorded take" on AUDIO 8 and MOVE it to AUDIO 9! Is this possible?
@MusicTechHelpGuy10 жыл бұрын
If you use take folders to save your takes, you can duplicate the track and folder and then choose two different takes. Or you can separate the folder to different tracks. I think I talk about take folders in Episode #4.
