Minnesotan here - He did his visit during a polar vortex which is when the temps dip so low that schools will close. It gets crazy dangerous cold, getting to -30 at night, sometims lower. But it lasts about a week or so. Then it's back to the normal 20s to 30s. LOL The hot/cold thing is a Scandinavian thing, dontcha know! 😉 Seriously though, it is pretty common in Scandinavian countries to do the sauna and then out out in snow then back to the sauna.

@momD612 every year, when the vortex hits, I wonder why I am here too. But then things warm up in the spring and I forget about the cold. Lol especially in the summer when we hit 100s with high humidity. But again, that lasts maybe a week or 2 then it goes back to normal. I complain but I do love it here. Lol

I love watching this video! Everyone should experience a good winter at least once. I’ve lived in Indiana, Michigan, and New York. I lived through the Blizzard of ‘78. We had to shovel out our driveway, so it’s good we were still young. We had lake-effect snow in MI and it was hard to drive in. And we went through a vortex in NY, where your nose would freeze shut! Now we’re in the South and our blood has thinned out. It was so much fun watching you laugh at Tim’s antics! Now I’m ready to go back to my crocheting. Have a great weekend!! ❤ Cyd

Former Minneapolitan for 45 years (one of my bros lives near Buck Hill). However, have been in SoCal for many years and do miss seasons, somewhat (although not to the extreme of MN). Have never felt the need for a heater in CA and remain baffled that true 'locals' will don a heavy jacket, cap and gloves when temps 'plummet' to 60. Yep, we used to get out the lawn chairs to catch a few rays. Set them up in the snow (or, even better, on an asphalt driveway), so long as the sun felt warm and we were out of the wind. Hearty folks (the body burns more cals trying to retain heat). Dad was a professional photographer. Lots of pics of wintry MN (had his collection of frozen waterfalls) using his trusty old equipment.

@jackmandu10 ай бұрын
@@musikbyjh - Of course people say it’s global warming, but really it’s just due to a strong El Niño or La Niña, I forget which one. The same thing happened before in 1878 and they called it The Winter That Never Was. I’m not complaining about it, the driving has been great without the snow and ice. However, I’ve only gotten to (had to?) use my snowblower once this season so far. We’ll have to see how March and April go. Buck Hill has snow making equipment so they’re doing OK so far. It’s also a good place to see an outdoor concert in the Summer.

It's not as if Tim didn't know what he was getting in to. He lived in Fargo for a couple winters. But he really IS a southern boy - and that week WAS brutally cold. That styrofoam sound of crunching snow - I can FEEL that in my bones. It was Chris Chatham that was bundled up in Adam's basement when they came in from the hot tub. Which makes me wonder - who was filming outside? And hearing Any Way the Wind Blows while they were sledding reminded me that that is one of the older HF videos that you should react to.

One reason for this trip was that Darren taught Tim and Chris Chatham how to use the recording software. So Chris could record Tim's album and they didn't need Darren for every step. By the way toddler Cerise wasn't a big fan of Tim but that changed from the looks of it. We live in the middle of the lower portion of the Mid-West which means we actually get all 4 of the seasons, some times in the same week and many times 2 seasons in the same day with 40 degree rises or falls on the thermometer. The lowest temp being -18 and the highest 115. Chris Chatham (he played the guitar in 'So Long Dixie') is the camera man on this trip and also the man lounging on the couch bundled up who Tim thank for the moral support after the hot tub Snow Angel lunacy. I have to admit the older I get the less alluring watching the snow, while sitting in front of a fireplace, with the dog laying on my feet becomes. The dreamy quality of the snow scape just doesn't quite have the same affect on me anymore. A week ago we had 5" of the white stuff fall and freeze. This week the highs are supposed to be near 80. They say change is good 🙄at least it is a new adventure during the transition times. ☺

The tubing and snow angel bit was my favorite. One of the background songs is called Diamond Dreams, and it's one of my favorite from HF. Another aside today (cuz why not?): In Maryland, we had a crazy weird ice storm in '93 where my sister and I were literally ice skating on top of the snow. I'll never forget it. And then the blizzard in '96 (as Jeremy said). Then there was a pretty crazy winter around 2003 again (27 inches in WV) and about the same in MD. Then a couple bad storms in '10 (only remember because I fell in the snow when i was pregnant and my son laughed at me lol (he was 2. It's okay). I'm down south now and don't regret any of it. I love snow, but I hate cold, which I know is a weird thing to say, but I don't get the point of cold weather unless there is snow involved, obviously. All of this to say I'm really happy for you guys moving out west. You will get the best of both worlds, which is everything. Congrats.

This was fun to see your reaction as a fellow Home Fry (literally in a way). I'm Minnesotan (born, raised, live, & will probably die in Saint Paul, Minnesota) - come visit & we can do Buck Hill together! I grew up on Buck Hill, but haven't been in ages (haven't been skiing in years either). When I was a kid, it was the rope at Buck Hill. And sledding while crashing into the garage is no big deal. I run hot, so I like the winter. I love turtlenecks, but never really wear them anymore because I'll be too hot. Even when it's insanely cold & the middle of winter - I'll be wearing t-shirts with the fan on me so I don't overheat. Snow shoveling is actually really fun - I can't do it as much as when I was a teen (I'm 30), but I still enjoy doing it & listening to my Christmas playlist as I shovel. So I get to have fun singing as I shovel. The hot tub in winter is fantastic! Growing up, my family would go to Great Wolf Lodge for winter vacations. One of our best parts was the water park (and eating crushed ice while getting to watch Disney channel) - spend all day. My mom would read as my sister & I would enjoy ourselves for hours on the rides and lazy river and hot tub. There was a hot tub pool with 3/4 inside and a small outside part with a plastic strips curtain separating the two. This is the Midwest during the winter (as children & teens - early to mid 2000s). So we'd always sit in the outside part because the cold of the winter air & winter breeze on your face and neck helps keep you from feeling too hot and you enjoy the hot water even more. Also we loved swimming underwater, fully submerge ourselves and then pop back up and sit with our hair on the concrete edge. Because our wet hair would freeze and stick to the cement/concrete and sting when we un-stuck it. Then submerge and do it again. Over and over (yes we would stick our tongues on cold metal in winter to freeze & enjoy the sting). We have a hill right outside our house for sledding, local library a few blocks away has a large hill. Then you get cocoa, fire in the fireplace, and scrabble as you listen to Old Time Radio Shows (which are awesome & you should check out if you don't know them) back inside... I had great winters (& general childhood seasons) growing up!

I'm watching in my nightgown/sweater/socks because it's all of 53 degrees in L.A. and I don't have a working heater. BUT I use my electric blankie for sleeping. Tim is so much fun to listen to. I expect you've heard his "Story time with Uncle Tim" that people post from their stage shows, sometimes? Apparently he scared the other guys being so snarky; they thought he'd offend the audiences. But fans love it, so they let him snark away, now. Hey, was Tim was scraping his windshield with a MENSA card?

We don't get too extreme weather where I'm from, but I used to have icicles _inside_ my bedroom in the winter (back in the 60s & 70s) and I can still cope with cold much better than hot, though I'm quite nesh now. You can always add an extra layer, but there's a limit to how much you can take off without getting arrested! My daughter's inherited the trait - she regularly goes swimming in the North Sea in Scotland in just a swimsuit (I'd need a wetsuit these days).

The girl is Adam daughter. When she was a baby she was afraid of Tim, most likely his deep voice.
