The plan is to build many detention centers at $700/day per detainee if that is what you are referring to. It's a business thing to make money. Yes, you could put them up in nice hotels for less but try not to muddy the water with facts. Simple fix for Congress in getting rid of wasteful spending: No more omnibus bills. No more earmarks. If a bill can't pass on it's own merit, it has no reason to be pushed through on the coat-tails of a bill that does have merit. Period. The only other way to save American taxpayer's dollars is to make it against the law for members of Congress to accept favors of any kind, whether it be monetary or otherwise, from lobbyists. You get caught accepting a favor from a lobbyist, you not only lose your seat in Congress, but you are brought up on ethics charges and face a prison sentence. It's quite simple really... You need to take away the incentives that create the atmosphere to spend the money wastefully.

The problem is the money they are saving us is just the yearly deficit. Which needs to happen but its not going to just fix things over night it will take years to dwindle the excess to a point that the deficit becomes a surplus... that surplus then needs to be used to "start" paying off the national debt. If they save us 5 trillion a year, we can afford to break even paying interest. Nothing to pay down the actual debt. Just breaking even to stop its hemorrhaging. At that point we either need more income or more thinning.

Elon and Vivek better take a more tailored, thoughtful approach than what they are publicly announcing, or else they are really going to lose a lot of support. Have they thought about federal workers as a voting block? There are many conservative fed employees who voted for Trump, who agree about reducing federal waste and fraud and corruption, but you cannot just do a hatchet job without take a just and fair and thoughtful and analyzed approach. Consider that fed workers have adapted their lives for fed work, including foregoing the private sector and taking on the government incentives for public service, including Public Service Loan Forgiveness. Consider those who took on remote work and moved out to the suburbs. As easy as it it for simpletons to blindly assume all fed workers are lazy and unproductive, any reasonable person should understand that it would serve the US citizens very well to be thoughtful, and think far ahead as to the impact of each decision the DOGE is about to make.

It would do America a lot of good to listen and think, measuring twice before cutting. Don't blindly follow people on an adrenaline rush. Must I remind you, that while Elon did a noble deed by buying out Twitter for the protection of free speech, that it was very touch and go whether Twitter would escape bankruptcy? Must I remind you about the history of Tesla, and how Tesla is only by the grace of God doing as well as it is, despite the early scandals of batteries catching on fire, and people dying in car crashes due to the autopilot malfunctions? It is no small part that the success was driven purely by novelty, and not by practicality, much the same reason why people raved about inferior Apple products in the earlier years, because of the "cool" factor. While Elon Musk is today the richest man on Earth, wildly successful, his story could have been easily a cautionary tale had the winds of fate blown slightly a different way. Yes, Elon Musk is very intelligent and talented, but both he and Vivek have shown impulsivity at times. Does it hurt to ask them to spend more time being thoughtful? No.
