Having ridden snowmobiles since I was 3, but only just getting into mountain riding, it's like a whole new world. I knew 800's were a thing years ago, and turbos could negate elevation, but now it's like I have felt 165hp NA and KNOW that it's not enough for a lot of things. All of a sudden I'm seeing mods that people wouldn't have dreamed of 10 years ago. I'm fairly certain we'll see some great innovation in the next 5 years alone toward snowmobiles.
@riverratt86268 ай бұрын
Actually most of the big yamaha 300 to 400 hp sleds were built over ten years ago, some engines were stuffed into light wieght polaris and Doo chassis. Now you can buy a light weight turbo 2 stroke with a 3 inch track with warranty which is way easier to ride than the big heavy yamaha's, those big HP four strokes are a real hand full to ride. You have to give those guys that still ride them a lot of credit.
@ryanc81888 ай бұрын
Watching this brings me back to he days of when chute sleds were full on custom builds, louder than hell, all kinds of whacky track lengths. Now most are just mildly upgraded stockers! Besides the random few.
@MuskokaFreerider8 ай бұрын
There’s still quite a few full builds actually
@ryanc81888 ай бұрын
I believe you, but when that catalyst almost topped out that chute that shows just crazy how far sleds have come in 20 years, back in those days you were a considered mad man if you were trying to go up those chutes with a stock sled. Most of the chute sleds looked like the exo framed green doo or crazier not an almost stock appearing sled just with the air filter out the hood. 😂
@outfitr97038 ай бұрын
Dawson had some serious ground speed on his Polaris, way more than the other couple Polaris sleds. For sure do a 175, you could take it out on super deep days too. Nice filming btw!!

Matt you definitely should build a 174 light weight Mod sled, Just sell off 2 sleds and build one hill climber / exploration sled. The 146 Lynx can go since you prefer the 146 Doo, and one of the older sleds in the fleet.
@MuskokaFreerider8 ай бұрын
Agreed or just mod the 165 doo. Lynx sold
@riverratt86268 ай бұрын
Exactly, stretch out the 165 Doo, bigger turbo plus a water cooled intercooler installed in the tunnel just like the HM Turbo kits used to have. Pretty easy mods and your up and going. The water to Air intercooler makes a big difference on the long shoot climbs, it keeps the intake air temp way down, which makes more HP at lower boost levels@@MuskokaFreerider

Props to Dawson pinning all those shoots so beautifully. Does he have a nutty chute tune he dials in or was he just riding the sled as he did all year? I am not sure how easy it is to swap tunes on modern turbo sleds but I had six tunes for my subaru over a decade ago for use with different fuels and uses. Now that I think of it, given the reed system it is probably harder to just swap ecu tunes on modern sleds, no EFI.
