Extra socks in your duty bag instead of jumper cables, spring for a cheap jump box so you don't get your computer trying to jump a car Baby tearless shampoo in your gear bag for when you catch some overspray a dry erase marker and board, I used to Velcro mine on top of my laptop to write down notes or addresses Quick clip aligator magnets for the trunk of your car to help keep paperwork and ID's from blowing away during traffic stops. I stand behind the passenger side of my car during stops. A small clip on red light if you're a night officer, helps when trying to read paperwork and it's hands free. GPS, I don't care how well you think you know the area Hidden handcuff key Extra boot laces A small cargo box with folder organizers in your trunk, helps organize case files and such. I had 2 and is put my department issued paperwork like DOA, Trespasses, tow warnings, etc. in one with labels on it and my case files in the other, labeled by date of arrest or encounter. Plastic clipboards, I had 3, 2 had written statement forms inside them with extra pens, the other had copies of domestic violence pamphlets and order of protection instructions in it. Orange gloves for directing traffic, the orange doesn't blend in with the yellow vests and makes directing traffic much easier. Orange cone light if you're a night officer. Just buy stock in hand sanitizer and always ask EMS for extra gloves or if they can spare a box, they usually have more than enough and are willing to share. Super glue Black or navy blue thread and needle kit Aspirin and if you have bad allergies, over the counter allergy meds Small bottle of mouth wash, trust me lol there are times you'll wish you had it and it's not because your breath stinks... Air freshener for your car I always carried extra loaded magazines in my gear bag, luckily I only needed them once but nonetheless Extra handcuffs or a small bag of personnel zipcuffs I always carried hard rifle plates in a plate carrier that was clearly marked with Velcro Police or Sheriff on the front and back in huge bold lettering with a Velcro badge on the front too. This stayed in my trunk and was very easily accessible. I fitted it to don over my soft armor and it wouldn't mess with my earpiece or Mic controls. I know this all sounds like a lot, but it will easily fit in your trunk or in your gear bag seat organizer. Most of this is considered by me to be a luxury. It isn't something you need to go blow your academy pay check on but it is something I'd start acquiring while in FTO before you hit the road by yourself. Just remember, the first month on the road by hourself, your squad doesn't expect you to swim laps around them, but they do expect you to stay afloat and don't be afraid to ask for help. Better to ask for help than het yourself overwhelmed and caught up in a big mess...

@kirby53296 жыл бұрын
Silence Dogood no because as badges said mags can break and malfunction so if you mag stops feeding after 2 bullets and you got 3 guys shooting at you you're going to need more rounds to take them all out. hell even if you got 1 guy shooting if you miss the first shot and the mag jams up you'll need to switch mags so the guy you're shooting at can't kill you, take all your equipment including your patrol rifle/shotgun and than use that on civilians of other officers when backup arrives. he's not saying bring multiple drum mags he's just saying make sure you have a few spare mags in case of a mag malfunction.

German cop here, one thing I always recommend(if your belt has extra space) is an mag dump pouch for when you are strip searching someone and don’t want to put their stuff in your pockets or on the ground if there are more people around or it’s knives and syringes. Just dump it all in that bag and if you’re done you can get it all out and fold it back together. I like the ones from Tasmanian tiger.

Tampons are the best. Officer401 talked about it. Its good for plugging wounds Other stuff 1. I don't remember the name of it but its a light you can clip onto your shirt pocket. Useful when writing tickets or notes in the dark. 2. Write in the rain note pad. Good for taking notes in the rain. It rains a lot here and sometimes you might have to take notes while its raining or snowing. Its sucks 3. Knife. A officer used his while in a life or death struggle with a suspect. The officer lost his gun and was on the ground fighting with the subject. He pulled out his knife and the rest is history. Also get a knife that has a window punch and seat belt cutter on it. Very Useful. 4. Spare flashlight because you never know. 5. Custom first aid kit. Build your own, put quick clot and other stuff in it for gun shot wounds. 6. Besides medical gloves carry some work gloves like military tactical gloves . They are awesome when it comes down to fighting with a suspect or handling a suspect
@VictoryAviation6 жыл бұрын
Dakota Ravenheart no, they are NOT good for plugging wounds. A tampon is made to absorb blood, not stop it. I have four professional medical certs including TCCC (way more than what EMT’s know). TCCC is what swat medics train to do. For god’s sake don’t put tampons in your trauma kit.

@mechwar316 жыл бұрын
Actually in the military plugging a bullet wound with a tampon is a common thing. As the tampon absorbs blood it expands which places pressure on the interior of the wound track. It's not the tampon that stops the hemorrhaging, it's the pressure.

Allen Kennedy as a person with a background in law enforcement. Your job and life can be difficult if the higher ups don’t like you. Great tip about having a TQ readily available for use. Two things I would add ONLY use CoTCCC approved tourniquets. The RATS TQ is NOT TCCC approved and has been proven through extensive studies to continuously fail. The SOFT Wide IS approved. Secondly, do not keep the time strap over the windlass clip on the CAT TQ. I see multiple officers incorrectly store their TQ in this manner. When it comes time to use it, they need to take the unnecessary extra step of getting the time strap out of the way. This is an officer safety issue. Hope this helps.
