I am totally a beginner and I just wrecked my Horizon Hobby Blade mSR in the living room behind a table. The electrical plug that plugs into the main board got sheared off, the connection that makes the rotor motor spin. Yikes! Now the rotors do not spin of course. Most likely I will need to upgrade to a Blade 70S with SAFE and try that one out. Thank you so much for your more than informative video and for your telling the truth about this particular hobby.

Learned to fly on quadcopters. I have gravitated towards RC helis. I know I can't be the only one... When you fly a quad in public... There's just a bad vibe. People think you're trying to spy on them even though you don't have the camera attached... When you fly a heli, however, they're like "sweet! look at the RC helicopter!"
@DamonGaskin4 жыл бұрын
Depends on how you fly the quad. Most people are intrigued when I fly my quad, but then, I fly them much like I fly my helicopters(in upright mode of course). Forward, backwards, stable hovering, standing rolls and forward and backwards flips. But a lot of people that fly drones, don't truly seem to have control. Or it looks like it. I think that's why..
@RobisonRacing684 жыл бұрын
I have a feeling helis are going to make a comeback due to better stabilization over the last few years as you demonstrated. I have the Blade 70s and love it for indoor winter/covid flights too like you. Good choice! Also if Blade is out of certain parts then you can check the parts for the ESky 150 V2 as it is the same helicopter just rebranded. Glad you got the bug again too Nate. Same as me... :)

I have a weird little newbie question. I just picked up a Blade 70s and I'm noticing that it hangs just a little to the right even when it's stationary in the air. It looks like it does in your video too, so is this normal, like a feature of having blades rotating in one way or is it a weight distribution thing? And since the battery will be close but not exactly in the same place every time you install it with that velcro, do you have to re-trim each time? Thanks!
@calebsrccrawlers3 жыл бұрын
I’m not sure if your question has already been answered, but I have a couple blade helicopters that do it, I think it’s just a thing with some blade helicopters. Some of my blade heli’s don’t do it all the time and some do, hope this helps you out.

I'm not really a helicopter person, but I do like the look of those without that stabilizer top bar. I tried my Sport Cub today and it just climbed up, should've gave up and seen if I could get advice. The whole 'engine' front snapped off. Reckoned previous hit maybe shifted the nose, might that be it? Now I'm not sure about gluing it, as far as getting the angle of the prop correct. Anyone out there that has suggestions.

If you're going to get into RC helicopters - SIM SIM SIM. Find a club with some good helicopter pilots & get educated. Hopefully one of them will buddy box you on a 600 or 700 size. Get a Blade 230 to learn on then if you're serious get 600 size. When it comes to helicopters a 600 is 10x+ easier to fly than a micro size.
@DamonGaskin4 жыл бұрын
I was thinking the same all while watching the video. But there is a lot of things that I don't think nate knows, simply because he doesn't fly helicopters. But there's a lot more to it, like for example, probably the worst "noob lethal" heli accident, was with a 450 sized machine. The second worst was with a micro blade machine(the guy didn't respect the machine and got bit across the mouth". The little ones, for the beginner are the most dangerous these days..
@grege23834 жыл бұрын
@@DamonGaskin I agree. No comparison between the helicopter in the video and my Logo 600 with a Brain2 FBL. Never mind a 700 size with a Vbar or CGY760 set up by someone who knows what they are doing.

The two beginner helicopters in this video would be very difficult to get hurt on, if you follow the provided safety instructions included in the paperwork. We were pretty clear that the final helicopter is for intermediate pilots. Choppers aren't for everyone, but we addressed that in this video too. Having flown both the XK130 and also the Eachine E160 helicopters for several months I 100% agree regards being non-beginner helicopters. You need flying experience before stepping up to these helicopters. There is also something else worth saying.. These helis are made super cheap which is obviously the appeal.. Although there are some nice things with the Eachine in particular you will almost certainly have problems with the helis (that could be avoided buying from more established helicopter companies). The quality control of these companies is not great and there are weak points to the helicopters due to cost restraints. With the Eachine I had servo horns snapping mid-flight, servo screws falling out, blade screws working loose, soldering becoming undone, transmitter switches breaking off... With each malfunction comes crashes, expense. and long waits for parts to arrive. It really is a case of 'buy cheap, buy twice' with these...despite what anyone else may tell you. So altho fun and can help you learn regards remote controlled helicopters... bear in mind that they are still far from perfect and the fun balances out in terms of frustration/expense/heartache! :-).

Don' t agree. Over more than 10 years I have had both Blade helicopters and much cheaper ones from China. The best of the early ones was the WLToys V911 - avoided all the problems of the others. Currently flying the Eachine E129 and it is very good, once you get used to the altitude hold. I agree the Blades are good, I'm just saying so are the best of the Chinese ones.

Normally, I am in complete agreement with nate, and you guys overall, on rc. But helicopters is another category completely. And it of those 3, I personally would only recommend the blade(the non collective machine), and that's simply because it's a blade machine. Otherwise, I would say and suggest, get a sim first, and Sim like crazy until your not thinking about what your doing(practice hovering and CONTROL of the machine). Your not doing a thing if you put it in the air, and you first can't keep it in one spot, and then be able to start and stop it exactly where you want. Helicopters aren't really a casual thing. They are either you want a good, long challenge, or you are wasting your time and money. That's why people leave the hobby, and honestly, it's better for someone to leave the hobby, than to hurt themselves or someone else. And helicopters can easily do that(even the tiny ones). Sorry Nate and Abby, I think you guys need more time with these before you can honestly recommend any to someone.

@@TheRcSaylors recently, yes(actually last Saturday) , as I've been doing a lot more indoor flying, as my friend(fellow flyer) owns a shop and indoor track. We both have been flying since 93 and were both sponsored pilots at some point(I don't like bringing that up because people think you think your better than them). But, that is the experiences we have. We have been testing a lot of machines as of late for basic things(I test the precision, and he tests the abuse character) and recommendations. I recommend collective machines, even for beginners. The reason: simply because your going to face it sooner or later if you stay in the hobby. Sooner if you want to really learn how to fly.. I, and many pilots, who learned on collective machines(actually, went through the mghz to 2.4, rate gyros to heading hold, flybarred to flybarless, etc). Crashes are part of it, and everyone does it. It just happens. But.. Now, things are different, and there are enough machines that "are" collective, easy to fly and program(which is very, very important to know and learn to do), and durable.
