Super helpful--the sort of things you don't think about until you are dead-in-the-water on the trail. Not sure this is a genius idea or not, but I fill my tires with the self-sealing goop to handle punctions, one of the brand names is: Slime. If I start doing rock gardens I'll bring irons and spare tubes to handle gashes.

Also awesome ideas, I’ve definitely had to use slime before!

Good advice. Over packing can actually rob some of the fun of day trips.

1ft of bare copper wire(household) is now part of my kit too after an exhaust sheild came loose on my bike last year.

@john0270 good thinking! That could definitely be useful.

I have a drz400S. After 20k miles, I still haven’t needed to break out the tool bag except to adjust the clickers.

That’s awesome! I fall and break stuff a lot 😂

I'm still working on a tool kit. I have some stuff but not everything. Even for a budget DS, it costs a lot to get all the accessories you need, and kit out like you should. Like you, I have tool for a trailside flat repair, but my plan is to limp out and truck it home where I have beverages and better tools.
@DerekDualSport4 ай бұрын
Oh yeah between the bike, the safety gear, and a tool kit it adds up quick. Luckily the tools should last many years.

@@DerekDualSport and if you stick to Japanese, you can consistently use metric over and over. I had to change out the battery in my Ford Van today and realized, most of my tools are metric.

@josephthornton8560 haha well it’s good to know ford hasn’t gone metric yet 😂

don't forget an assortment of 6mm and 8mm bolts!! Flat repair is in my opinion the most valuable skill/equipment to bring when your away from home base. Allot of other problems are avoidable by keeping up on maintenance and inspection. If you suspect a weak battery, test and correct the condition ect. the best way to develop your tool kit is to do any maintenance ect to your bike with what you have on it, including tire changes at least once. but I'm more into the adventure/touring stuff with a klr 650, vstrom 650, dyna wide glide, and now a new 2024 800de!

If you are on a day trip and use dunlop 606 tyres you can ride at least 10km with a flat rear slowly

@nickg2431 I have no doubt, especially lighter bike at slow speeds with a rim lock

Great video. New subscriber. You mentioned you had replaced your gear shift lever and kept your old one for reserve. Mind sharing what brand you switched the stock out to. Thanks.
@DerekDualSport4 ай бұрын
Thank you for subscribing! I switched out to an IMS shift lever it is about 1 inch longer but you have to bend it. I’ve also used an aftermarket Tusk lever, the tusk one doesn’t need any bending. I’ll leave a link to the IMS and Tusk one below and in the vid description. IMS: amzn.to/43gO3er Tusk: amzn.to/43iR0LB
