@Gerald Jelks It depends on what's wrong with it and if your going to do the work yourself. If the boat needs a new engine or has rotten wood it's almost not worth restoring.
@bclaverenz14 жыл бұрын
Troy Dunn ....Question....Lets say you buy a 30-34 foot center Console WITHOUT engines and it needs new wiring and possibly a new transom. How do you go about #1 Determining a $$ value of the boat to offer for its purchase...#2 How do you go about Determining the cost of rewiring the boat...?? Engine costs and for the most part new Transom costs are not that difficult to budget....Unknowns like wiring or other other electrical issues probably are... How do I gage these $$ costs...???

This is a great video.... There is a lot of "Dead air" when you're working. I feel you could really take your already amazing video up a notch by using some of that time to describe what you're doing. Such as Filling the holes with what? Tape the gel coat before drilling because, Cutting the holes with a what kind of saw with a what blade?? 6:30 what kind of speaker. Etc... Not knocking this video it is awesome, just my opinion. I need to drop 100lbs so I can fit in those tight spaces like you and do this to my 34 Venture. Having it's 3rd set of engines and 4th set of Electronics. It is in desperate need of a overhaul. Thanks for sharing this awesome vid!

I have a question, living in a area that is very seasonal with boating which then in-turn is seasonal with equipment and light in material overhead. With all the big stores taking over the Mom and Pop places, what's your "go to" for electrical supplies for boats? I'm finding very limited anything at local shops in area, even simple hole grommets for "new" holes for pulling wiring harnesses. Everything is geared toward the weekend warrior , say a couple bulbs or something really hard like a cotter pin for a bearing grease repack on a trailer tire change. Again, good videos Thx
@rogerreed97683 жыл бұрын
Another question, when your running wiring harnesses, are you not shortening harnesses due to continuity of components ,save time or not really concerned with weight?......Just wondering, a cleaner look and weight from a aviation point of view.

I can't seem to find the name of the place where we got them, but we had to call Venture Boats: 772-221-9100 and then they referred us to a place in Tampa that actually had locks that worked. Do you use 5200 on your through hulls and engine mounting bolts, or do you prefer something else?
@BornAgainBoating5 жыл бұрын
Well it depends, 5200 is great stuff, but it's really runny. So I like to use the same stuff but 3Ms 4200 instead. Its thicker and doesnt run so it makes clean up easier and it's just as strong for mounting engines and thuhulls

Quick question, when your wiring a boat, do you have a common ground/positive bus bars that your running wire routes from? What about inverters/ converters? What about pvc conduit cable runs, do you use them?
@BornAgainBoating5 жыл бұрын
Yes, theres always a common ground bus bar, junction, or some form of tying them all together. The power splits off after a fuse panel or breaker panel that feeds each individual component and usually the boat has a PVC rigging tube in it. We dont really install one besides that. Maybe on a bully net boat well add one to get the rigging out of the bilge and up in the gunwale.

That 34 would be a good subject for glassing over the 'shoebox fit' where the deck meets and overlaps the hull. I see it was one of the manufacturers who used regular steel through bolts which are rusting instead of stainless at a minimum but the best is like commercial boats who have to withstand hard use and that is a solid glassed joint. It is also frequently leaks and is a weak spot on impacting a dock or other boats. Glassing it really strengthens the area. It is a straight forward job as it can be done from the outside completely. Plus you get to stand up for the whole project!! Nice boat.

@thomasautengruber83693 жыл бұрын
boosted saleen It‘s not only about weight and size, you need to check with them to see if the transom and the whole boat is made to handle the extra load. That ranges from the extra torque on the transom to the hull‘s integrity crashing into waves another 10mph faster than originally anticipated. You might also lose your insurance coverage if you run engines the boat was not made for. Just a heads up.

@BornAgainBoating5 жыл бұрын
Hello! Hmmm that's a good question. I'm not really sure, I've never thought about it. I would say the best way to get into a shop is to go to a boat yard and get in as a yard guy. Painting the bottom of boats, cleaning the yard, spotting the forklift, and doing yard work. Then just buddy up with the technician's and do whatever you can to help them and make their job easier. And start trying to learn all you can about turning wrenches and work your way over to the technician side. It'll take time but it can be done. Hopefully you have larger, full on boat yards around you that have that kind of a crew!

Consistently brilliant... Inboards/Stern Drive Inboards; a little off topic. I watched a channel talking about; Bilge Area and engine compartment fumes. Can you expand on, How the fumes build up any why? It wasn't concise, given the extraordinary Importance of; The Blower. The guy stated that; you can Open the Engine Compartment AS WELL AS or in combination WITH, the blower engaged. No...on modern boats, the Blower is specifically designed to perform at its best, when the EC Hatch, is closed. 2nd, he never discussed How Long the blower should be running Before start up? It is a matter of life and death. Nothing demands Safety First more than Power Boating. (just a topic BAB)
@BornAgainBoating5 жыл бұрын
Bilges are generally dirty places. There could be a number of reasons how that fumes could build up in an engine compartment. A rusty or loose hose clamp on an exhaust tube. A fuel leak, injector leak, or many other things that could cause this. I don't do a lot of work on inboards or diesels, but I was always under the impression that you wanted to run the blower for a couple of minutes before opening the hatch to make sure if there was any fumes, that they were sucked out of the area. Great topic! Thank you!
@wes3264 жыл бұрын
I had a small stern drive cruiser and a corroded seam on the aluminum fuel tank let gas leak into the bilge. Didn't notice it until we were back to the marina after an overnight trip with the family. The blower may of saved our lives.
