U r amazing foodie who truly understand Asians & Asian food culture. Yes, we greet people “have u eaten?” Becos it’s so important that u have your daily meal and be thankful for it as u rightly pointed out it means u r not starving, able to put food on the table for the family - general well being. As for the You Tiao, (Chinese deep fry dough) it’s related to Chinese history of symbolic deep frying a bad hat /evil official and his wife which Cantonese call “Yao Cha Kuai” (literally deep fry the devil). YouTiao goes very well with local coffee (especially dipping into coffee before u bite it) or soya milk.

As usual, Great video. I love all of your choices. Here are my 5 favorite dishes (not in any particular order). Satay from stall #7 at Lau Pa Sat, Char Kway Tou at Maxwell Hawker Center, Laksa at 628 Laksa in Katong, Chili Crab in East Coast Park (cannot remember name of restaurant), and Pepper crab from same place. Thank you for doing such a good job with your videos. Again I cannot wait to make my way back to Singapore very soon.

Hi Mari, have you adventured into something different / less familiar? For example, what are the items you will ordered from OCK or a zi char stall (haha...bet you don't know how or what to order? : ) joking) ? How about steamed buns / lor mai kai? Or the different types of hot porridge in a hawker center? It would be interesting to understand how non locals feel about these food. My European colleagues have viewed porridge or steamed buns as food more reserved for a "not feeling well" day or perhaps too sickly white in appearance to be appetizing.

Have you tried songfa ba kut teh? Fried kway teow , laksa, hokkien prawn noodles and back Chor mee...have you tried these yet? I think there are lots more food beyond the food court that closed down you need to try.

Hi Joseph… yes I have tried all of those. These are just my favourites at the moment.. they asked me to share where my favourite stall is.. my favourite one closed down so I need to find a new one.. so I’m still eating my way around. 😁🙏🏻

If u put a box in front of me, and just say "SNACKS", I **will** completely finish everything inside, regardless of whether it is the best in the world or not 😜 Since you like Nasi Lemak, you should check out "Ayam Penyet" or "Ikan Penyet". You might like them. Literally, it's "smashed/flattened chicken or fish". These should be available at the same Malay stalls that you get Nasi Lemak from 😁
