I picked up two Velotric Packers during their Black Friday sale for $1500 each. Your reviews greatly helped in our decision. Thank you so much! The weather is finally cooperating so that we can put some miles on them. Super happy so far. I'm new to e-bikes. That first u-turn in assistance level 5 was exciting when I started pedaling midturn and almost became one with the ditch. 😂 Velotric seems to be putting out some really solid products.

As always Scott, great review, editing and presentation are always fantastic. I've commented a number of times on your videos before regarding my bad experience with Velotric's customer service when I owned a Discover 1. The extremely short version is that it failed on me and after bunch of back and forth they bluntly told me to go find a local bike shop because they can not help me with any of my issues (motor controller broke during normal riding, got a replacement from them which made the power switch on and off randomly). That experience turned me off to them so much that I will personally never support them again. This being said, I have never said all their products are bad... I actually really liked the look of the Thunder series and knew for sure they were gonna follow the ebike trend with the Discover 2 (and presumably the upcoming Nomad 2) of moving to torque sensors, signals, more options and what not... Their tech is pretty good, and I'd go to say I'm actually rather jealous of a few things they are offering right now that my current ebike doesn't have (Aventon Level.2). Velotric did get me into ebikes, so I tip my hat in thanks for that, but they ironically also made me steer clear of them. I sold my Discover 1 in 2023 at a loss, but used that money for a Level.2 and even after 2,300 miles that thing shows zero signs of slowing down. It is my literal daily commuter. With other companies "catching up" to trends like full torque sensors and putting more power into their motors I am very curious for the next say, 2 to 3 years of ebikes and what will become, "The Norm" in terms of specs AND price. I feel companies like Velotric and Aventon are pushing really hard to keep things under the 2K dollar amount, but still offer a good product, but I'm very curious if there is this careful dance behind the scenes to see what company (any company) makes the next big move to do something such as full carbon fibre (such as Nireeka already has this and heavily markets it, but I've also heard their CS is non-existent) or some sort of massive leap in battery technology that allows range (Aniioki comes to mind, but their battery is indeed massive), OR maybe future commuter ebikes will fully go the way of Cowboy 4 and try to keep offering sleek and minimal...though cost will be an issue. Very interested to see if/when one of these companies starts really really pushing things like belt drives and/or mid-drive motors over hub motors instead too.
@scotthardesty

I always appreciate your well detailed comments. I do know that Aventon and Velotric have their own factories allowing them be innovative when it comes to future models of ebikes. Good review Scott..Is this Chicaga? First day of my riding the same exact color and yes, it's a good color choice. I'm not so sure what to garner from the Power Bar and how to use that to ride more efficiently..if you can shed some light on that by all means go ahead👍 I'm in NYC and there are some big hills mainly in Central Park and it didn't take long for me to Discover(pun intended) that the unlocked throttle is your best friend as even on Trail/Boost, it was challenging to ride up these hills on anything above 3rd gear..and of course the challenge with that is the lower gears result in not really moving too fast..so net net, that throttle is my ace in the hole.

Stellar Falcon. Biggest standout feature is the display lets you toggle between using the torque sensor to drive the motor or run it like a cadence sensor bike. What is the warranty length on Velotric? Are Velotric ebikes sold at cycling shops, or just online? Aventon has 1800 dealers, and 2-year warranty. I like this Discover 2 a bit more than Velotric's eMTB you reviewed a few days ago, mainly due to turn signals and frame color offerings, but in either case I'm now thinking if I want a Velotric, am I giving up warranty coverage and dealer service versus a comparable Aventon model? Also, in comparison of Discover 2 to Aventon Level 2, the buttressing on the lower area of the step-thru frame of Level 2 seems to be sturdier.

Hey Scott, I can tell you really like this new Velotric bike. I have a Pace 500.3 and I have to get rid of it. Doctor's orders. The Pace's ride is so upright that when you go over bumps, it compresses your lower spine. Ourch! Injury! So my sports doctor said get rid of the bike and get one that doesn't have such an upright position. It kinda looks like the ride position of this Velotric is very much like the Pace's ride position, which would make it a no starter for me. Have I got this right? If so, what city style bike would be good for me?

You are correct. I do really the features of this bike. You are also correct in the thoughts of this bike sitting straight up and down. With that said, I have been testing my new favorite Velotric bike for the past month and the video goes public on tomorrow. I believe this new bike will give you all the features of the Discover 2 but it definitely has a more aggressive riding position. Stay Tuned.

@@michaelromaner4601 It is a commuter, mtb, trail bike. It has quickly become my Goto bike for errands. I feel like it is the big brother of the T1ST. It is not a step thru. I would also suggest the Aventon Level 2. It doesn't sit up as proper and was my preferred step thru bike before the Discover 2 arrived.

@@scotthardesty As always Scott, thanks. I have been all over the Velotric website and there is no mention of a new bike coming out. Just the release of the Discover 2 in March. I've even Googled to see if there is news on a new release and I've heard nothing. Yes, I am going to look at and ride the Level 2 today.. I can see that it has a bit more aggressive riding position and I can trade my Pace 500.3 at the dealer for one. But I am concerned that the Level.2 is quite outdated at this point. No news as to when its successor will come out anywhere. That's why I am trying hard to find info on this new Velotric you are teasing about.

That holding lock or cup holder makes it difficult to step thru. Too many bells and whistle’s. You said it “so many options “. Who’s going to remember to cancel the directionals? I think I’ll keep my Discover 1.

I disagree. My lock is pretty slim so I haven't bumped into it. Although, it might be much different with a bottle holder. I have seen people use handlebar bottle holders instead.

Soooooo glad I didn't by the Euphree last year. While it's a great bike it didn't have the 750 watt hub which I really wanted. I also wanted the usb charge port and it didn't have that. Now Euphree has a new bike with the 750 watt hub BUT it's noisy and whiney. I wish you had it so we could hear this motor. Seems like your editing removes this....unless this thing has zero motor sound.

I don’t think this is a true torque sensor. You should not be limited on speed based upon your pass setting. You should be able to go any speed in any gear if you’re willing to work. Not sure why you have to change the pass setting to go up in speed. This is why I don’t think it’s a true torque sensor.
@scotthardesty

I am not limited. I show what the comfort causal speed is. I can crank it up to full speed on any PAS level if I really wanted to. I even do it in the review. So I am going to have to disagree.

Tbf, $1700 on a bike sounds crazy but like Scott I live in Chicago where you can kinda say “fuck cars” And getting around town on this compared to a car where the price alone would be triple… quadruple… quintuple and that’s not counting for gas, maintenance, etc. Doesn’t seem too bad! But not everyone lives in a dense urban city so I get it!

@ 2:53 "This Battery can be Power Washed", is possibly the Worst Advice you can give for an IPX7 water resistance rating this Battery is assigned. You need to do some Reading before you repeat nonsense like that. Look it up, it's all there for the World to see. An IPX7K ingress protection rating is good for 150 psi Max water pressure, while the IPX7 is rated to 15 psi of water pressure or less. Any Pressure Washer at a Car Wash uses a minimum of 900 psi up to 2000 psi of water pressure. The IPX7 Rating for this Battery should never see any more Water Pressure than that of standard Water Utility "home" water pressure of 40 to 80 psi. An IPX6 Rating is 15 psi max and should never see any more water pressure than that of Rain or water poured from a bucket. Claiming this Battery can be "Power Washed" shows a lack of knowledge on your part and may cause some poor soul a Lot of money & inconvenience based on Bad Advice like that. Don't take a "Power Washer" to this E-Bike folks, it says so in the instructions.
@scotthardesty

As I said... THE BATTERY CAN BE POWER WASHED! FYI, the reason I power washed the battery and this bike is that I was told directly from VELOTRIC that it can be done. Hence I did it, and it survived. They sent me a video showing the battery in 30 min cycle in the washing machine (with soap) and it was just fine. I appreciate your info, but I am going to hold my ground with my statements. I have over 100 miles on this bike and I have power washed it at least 3 times and no issue. Fun fact, I normally power wash all my bikes.

Hi Scott, Great review of the Velotric Discover 2, thank you. Here's an issue that I know you can't help with, but which may be of interest to at least some of your subscribers. I’m hoping that if I post it here it will find its way to Velotric HQ. Dear reader, a sorry tale awaits … I was all set to buy an Aventon Level 2, however before committing my hard earned, I did one last online search and found the Velotric Discover 2; after plenty of digging I changed my mind. Yep, the Discover 2 was the e-bike for me. Now for the sad bit: I can’t buy it. Why not, I hear you ask? Great question. Velotric only ships to the contiguous states of the USA (CONTUS is the acronym apparently), that is, all the states of the mainland. Hawaii, Alaska, and Puerto Rico, you’re out of luck (and yes, before hitting the keyboard, even from here folks know that Puerto Rico is an unincorporated territory and not a state, even though Puerto Ricans are US citizens). Anyway, undaunted, I thought, there has to be a way. Of course there is! I contacted Velotric customer support, and they confirmed that they are happy to ship to a forwarding agent on the US mainland, and I can then pay for the onward shipping: happy days, right? Ah, not so fast grasshopper. After trying ~20 different forwarding agents (UPS, FedEx, DHL, MyUS etc.) it all came to a screaming halt. Why? Because the shipping cost to good old Australia was between $USD 2750-4500 (that’s not a typo). Now, being the geographically literate e-bike owners you are, you know that, while it’s a fair way from California to Melbourne, the other side of the Pacific isn’t the dark side of the moon - why so much? Well, after further enquiries it turns out that lithium batteries are considered a major fire risk and basically anything shipped with a battery of > 100Wh has the battery removed and put in a special super-duper fire proof container which makes it super-duper expensive to ship (insurance, handling, etc.). air transport or surface shipping, it doesn’t matter, batteries go in the special box. So, unless you are shipping commercial volumes, the costs are just prohibitive for individual units. Now, the Discover 2 looks like a really, really, good bike. But man, would you pay at least $USD 4450 for one? Me neither. Dear reader, the USA is a great country populated with great people. But just between us, there are 333 million people living there and there are ~8.1 billion humans on earth, 7.7 billion of whom (also probabaly mostly great folks) do not reside in CONTUS. If even 1% of them want to buy a Discover 2, that’s 77 million e-bikes sales not made. Aventon has a good dealer network locally, Velotric has none (zero, zip, nil, zilch). So, it looks like Aventon will be getting my business, even though I’d rather put my money into a Discover 2. PS: note to Velotric CEO - that’s profit foregone. You know, sale not made, business lost to a competitor, performance bonus not met, that kind of thing.
