Android Auto is a huge plus in my opinion. That's one of the reasons I don't want a Tesla. I was really pleased with the drivers screen showing the turn directions.

Tesla is secure, they made sure of that and let others test their cars very thoroughly. I don't trust Google to have the customers security and safety as their topmost interest.

Yes. I have worked in IT security. First of all, your Chinese government comment is irrelevant. And your evaluation of the security between Tesla and Google does not seem to be based on anything other than a feeling that you have about each company. Hey Patrick and Liv, thanks much for taking us along on your test rides and providing your impressions. I look forward to eventually taking my Mach-E out west to ride those roads as I have family in Evergreen! ... Funny story. Shortly after you asked Google to play itch-o on KZbin I heard some quiet music sounds or voices in the background I couldn't make out. I thought it was coming from your video but I could still hear after the video ended. I tracked it down to one of my Google Minis. Apparently your "Hey Google" got picked up on my Mini and started playing itch-o (presumably, I'm not familiar with their music). :-) BTW, noticed the Mach-E center display indicated it was sync'd to "Patrick Pixel 4XL". I've had the 2XL for about 3 yrs now. Hopefully Mach-E / Android Auto will sync with it, though I'm may be upgrading to new phone this year. You liking the 4XL? Already looking forward to your next video. Edit: Meant to ask how you liked the Space Gray interior (vs the all black)? I've never had that light of a seat color so I'm a little curious / concerned. If you come out here, we'll have to grab a coffee and doa Mach-E drive! That's really funny about the Google Mini. The same thing happened when we were doing a preview screening on our TV before uploading. Of course, I then told Google to stop playing and it stopped the music AND the video. The Pixel 4XL is nice because of the zoom lens and wireless charging, but otherwise I actually preferred the Pixel 2XL. The biggest difference is the face unlock vs fingerprint unlock. Face unlock was great until the pandemic hit. Now it can be a pain to deal with and I wish I could just tap the fingerprint reader. I thought the light interior looked great, but I have doubts of how good it will look in 4+ years.

Hey Chuck! I so love that we triggered your google mini! That's so great! Hey you got to hear some Itchy-O up close and personal hahah. I also switched from the Pixel 2XL to the 4XL. The camera of course is lovely but I also vastly prefer the finger print vs face unlock. Even without the pandemic I prefer that. I would personally choose the Space Gray over the all black, but that is my typical aesthetic tendency AND I'm super messy and would just be concerned about the longevity of the light seats. They did look plush and beautiful though. I quite like that they're not a bright white. - Liv

I'll let you know when I'm headed out there even if it's not via my Mach-E (may fly or perhaps in a Rivian R1S if for some reason the Mach-E doesn't work out) and perhaps meet up and you can show off your Mach-E. :-) Since you guys have spent quite a few hours now in the Mach-E and presumably while it has been sunny, what was your impression of it blocking the sun, heat and brightness wise? Part of the reason why I changed my order from black to the space gray interior (sun heating up seats) but concerned about reflection in front windshield and just overall brightness. Ahh, that's right, the 4XL does not have the fingerprint reader. Man, I'm way too use to that to give that up. I'm assuming your Face unlock comment is due to wearing a face mask and it not recognizing you? I suspect there may be other shortcomings, e.g. a very dark room , hairstyle change, facial hair change, (sun)glasses change, etc. I believe Google ditched the Face Unlock and went back to the fingerprint scanner on the 5 (and presumably on 5XL when/if it's released). I may just wait for the 5 XL to come out (hopefully) as I like the larger displays. Hmm, according to Wikipedia the 5 has the same size display as the 2XL though the 5 has less resolution (PPI). I'll wait for the 5 XL or 6. ;-)

@@chuckm260 We had the Mach-E on cold days, so it is hard to comment about the heat from the glass roof. Overall, I think there was more light and glare coming from the windshield and side windows. The roof is tinted pretty well and the Ford engineers have said it should let very little heat energy through. The face unlock worked pretty well until we had to wear masks all the time. It worked fine in the dark, different facial hair, and with most sunglasses. It is actually using IR sensors for face unlock so it sees fine in the dark.

No range anxiety, but we were never far from the Denver metro that has tons of DCFC stations and Level 2 stations. We only charged twice and I think it took 20 to 30 seconds from the time I tapped the payment card to the time I could see it charging.

The Mach-E isn't an SUV at all. SUV's have a more or less vertical tailgate. The opening we see here is clearly a hatch, ergo the Mach-E is a misnamed hatchback. Still a pretty cool car, though.

It was Google's problem. They released a bad update to Android Auto. They have already started rolling out the fix. BTW... for anyone that doesn't have the update but needs Android Auto working, there is a workaround. If you disable Google Chrome, Android Auto then works with the car. To disable Chrome, you press and hold the Chrome icon. When the popup appears, click in the info icon. Then click Disable. You can easily re-enable it by adding it back via the Google Play App Store.

You guys did a great and different MME video. Nicely produced with the titles between sections and switching to outside views seamlessly...well produced. My home is about 1,200 feet above Salt Lake but I have to go over a 7,700 pass (over a 3,000 ft rise) to get here, so the mountain driving information was very useful to me. Does the car have Amazon Alexa (called Ford-Alexa, I think)? and do you know how well it works? Did your demo have the hot spot functioning? After driving EVs for 6 years and knowing pretty much how they get from here to there...I am very interested in the Sync 4A center console and how it functions. Nobody (including Ford) has really done an exhaustive "this is how it's laid out..." and "this is how it works" kind of video about the huge center screen. Also, I don't think there is any difference (as I understand it) between setting "One-Pedal Driving" on the screen or setting "L" on the shift knob...I think the car's behavior ends up in the same place either way. Oh, and, Patrick the paddles on the Bolt do not ADD regen...it's sort of a variable regen where you can sneak to a stop but the amount of regen when depressed all the way is identical to driving the car in "L" -- which does nothing to the driving or the acceleration (like "L" would in an ICE car) but only controls the amount of regen when foot is off the gas. As a matter of fact when my MME comes (about the same time as yours), based on past experience, I'll probably drive it in "L" most of the time but I drive one-pedal about 80 % of the time, already.

I have a question. Your mobile phone has the key to the Mach e, and the car configuration to the seething, the radio channels and gps recognize you and you’re your profile turns up on the screen. But what happens when you both get in the car..?

When only had the one phone connected during our test, but I asked that same question when Ford hosted a webinar about the SYNC 4A system. They said it could detect which person enter the driver's side, but if it makes a mistake, it is easy to select the other profile.

Mustang Mach E is great car. Ford needs to improve it still like adding stripes on hood to trunk, recario seats that regular mustang has, and sporty tires like regular mustang has.

Same here. I figured there must be a way to disable that, but I didn't spend the time to investigate. Someone told me later that to active the Ford system you press the button and to get Google Assistant you press and hold until you hear the Google tone.

nice video. did you get any hiccups plugging in the charger to the mustang-mach E.? Was it a smooth transaction? How many miles did you get of a full charge or close of charge?

No hiccups with charging. We used the same exact charger both times. The first time we charged to 81% and it said we had a range of 141 miles available. It was a cold morning and we did lots of mountain driving. I should have tracked better, but I didn't think it would be a good test of range since it I wasn't driving it in a normal fashion. One thing that was neat was the regen coming down from the mountains actually added a few percent to the batter and several miles of range.

The CCS charger is a big heavy clunky thing on its best day. So getting it plugged in and fully seated is more inherent to that system than to any given car model that may use it. That interface plug (which has been an SAE standard since 2015) is one instance where Tesla does have an advantage. Theirs is small and agile by comparison. I’ve never owned a Tesla but my daughter has a Model 3.

@@jbbevan I wish Tesla would switch to the industry standard like they have already done in Europe. It is one of the things I have against Tesla. I dislike proprietary connectors. This probably due to the fact that I have worked in IT and proprietary connectors have always been a hindrance.

On the self parking, was it annoying to hold down the button? I think with Tesla it just does it with no buttons. Also, when you take your finger off the button I assume it stops what it is doing, but if you push the button again does it resume parking?

I thought it would be annoying, but I actually liked it. It provides a quick way to cancel if there is an issue by just letting go of the button. It doesn't resume if you let go and then press it again. But to be honest, I doubt I will use it often. BTW... Tesla only does it if you buy the FSD packages which is $10,000. This is included on the Premium.

The Ford system doesn't have satellite view, but you can do that in map apps via CarPlay or Android Auto.

I don't think it will. The icon for the procedure shows it scanning for a perpendicular spot and it tells you to drive forward with your blinker on so it knows which side to scan.

First, the range of the Extended Range is very comparable to the Tesla Model Y in real world range tests by Edmunds, EV Dave, Alex on Autos, etc. Second, the charging speed of the Mach-E is way better than 40-50kW. If you watch my other videos (or others on KZbin), you'll see that it peaks at 162kW before drifting back down. I know someone that just did a 1600 mile road trip and they averaged 125kW charging speeds. Another KZbinr took a Mach-E on a coast to coast trip with no problems.

@@andersonpg yeah you can* get 150kw maybe some rare places... but first you have to stand in the rain fumbling cards and touch screens waiting for the verification that the charger is starting let alone hope it's not broken when you pull in like a lot of them i have personally experienced while in a 2019 leaf. With the Tesla you jump out of the car, plug it in, jump back in the car, hit a much higher charge rate then autopilot the way home :) oh, and you know how many usable chargers were there before you even pulled in.

@@bryanwells3425 You have a lot of bad information. I guess you haven't heard of Plug and Charge. EA supports that as well as EVGo. For others, it is at most a tap with your phone. Pretty easy. All of the EA chargers are 150 and many are now 350 kW. It is really not that difficult and you get great speeds. A lot has changed in the past couple of years. I'm telling you from real experience. In the Mach-E you can also do your route planning and check chargers before you arrive. The Mach-E also has the equivalent of Basic AutoPilot and it will have hands free mode on the freeway in a matter of months.

I had an electrician install a 50 amp circuit and a NEMA 14-50 outlet in my garage. I just ordered a ChargePoint Home Flex EVSE to use at home so I can keep the Ford mobile charger in the car with me at all times.

When I read your comment I went back to see what I had missed... you have a Co-Pilot 2 and 3 sections that I had not watched. I am mostly interested on the driver assist capabilities, after watching the other segments still there is little on your video on how it performs. How does it know you are paying attention? Eye-tracking cameras? Can you wear sunglasses and the car still knows you are attentive (GM super cruise cannot do this), does the car change lanes automatically to avoid slow traffic? Anything you can tell me about these features will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your replies.
