I had to replace the radiator in my 94 Cobra not long after I got it. Actually started to leak the day before I was going to drive it 1,500 miles back home. Short term fix was stop leak for the radiator. I'd never do that again unless its a last option. That crap gets all through the coolant passages in the heads and everywhere else. Found this out after doing a head swap on it.

Last summer I was fighting an overheating problem. My Terminator was running 215-220 fairly regularly. I already had a 170 degree thermostat. Had already replaced the water pump. Had replaced the fan. I was about to drop some money on a larger radiator and some aluminum tanks. After doing some research I realized there might be something else I needed to do that I forgot. Something FREE! When I replaced the thermostat I forgot to lower the temps at which the fan turned on. Today it was about 90-95 degrees outside. I drove the car for about four hours. At one point, with the AC on while driving slowly through a parking lot, the car reached 210. But at all other points of my drive the car never went above 185-190.

On the Fan, Check to make sure the fan motor mounting bolts are tight to the frame. On my ‘03 GT the fan bolts loosened up and allowed the fan to tip forward, and the fan ate in to the radiator. Had to replace the fan too, due to the holes in the plastic frame being oversized. Used fan assembly bolts were lose too, but snugged up okay.

My Chevy Silverado had the fan attached to the water pump instead of being electric. When the water pump went it also ate the radiator with the fan 😔🤦🏻‍♂️

If you plug the drain plug and just pull the larger lower radiator hose to drain it instead, it should work fine

Hello and thanks for the video and info! I have a question though; when you fill the system with coolant using the upper radiator hose you mention that fluid is going to be coming out from the other end. If I am not mistaken, the other end is where the thermostat is; if the thermostat is closed (the engine is cold), how come fluid shows up there? Thanks
@dannyjohnsonsgarage
@dannyjohnsonsgarage Жыл бұрын
The thermostat will still allow coolant to come out, it will only restrict it.
@sotiriostsironas3940
@sotiriostsironas3940 Жыл бұрын
@@dannyjohnsonsgarage Thanks for the reply! Aha! Ok, so it doesn't fully close, like 99% closed? Another question I have that may be relevant to the method; you mention that you are using the upper radiator as it is the highest point of the cooling system. What if a no-spill funnel kit is used with an extension (so it is the highest point) onto the overflow tank cup. Could that replace the method that you are showcasing or it will still not fill the whole system? Like fil las much as possible when the engine is not running and then start the engine with the heater on and the funnel always kept full, with coolant.

@dannyjohnsonsgarage
@dannyjohnsonsgarage 7 ай бұрын
It’s not necessary for a stock engine and my friend had over-heating issues even with his cobra on a bigger radiator. I’m sure it wouldn’t hurt but it won’t be a huge difference. Also make sure the radiator has the provisions for the automatic transmission cooler lines

You’ll lose a lot of coolant when you remove the hose. You can try to catch it in a clean bucket, but replace the hose and burp it as you see in the end

It should be right on the full line when cold. It still has some room to expand into the left side of the tank (but that’s mostly for degassing)

I would disconnect the line at another joint on its way to (or into) the transmission, then once the radiator is out see if you can get on it better or even break the old radiator apart.

Idk if this issue for me deals with the radiator, but my issue is had the water pump replaced, manifold also, and yesterday the car smoked up with coolant and i look and the coolant escaped all under the car. I put more coolant to see if it did it again and driving for a little it atays but then something happens and it heats up after running it for a second, im guessing radiator cause i see coolant on the sides of it, any ideas?
@dannyjohnsonsgarage
@dannyjohnsonsgarage 4 жыл бұрын
Steve Vasquez Did it smoke from the engine compartment or out the exhaust? It can be leaking from the intake manifold near the front or rear or any of the radiator hoses that may not be on right. Also look at the water pump area to see if it’s wet

@dannyjohnsonsgarage
@dannyjohnsonsgarage 4 жыл бұрын
If it’s boiling coolant the car is overheating. It may have a bad temp gauge so you don’t know. It’s very possible it’s the water pump. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bqC4nHR_qNBrh8U

@@dannyjohnsonsgarage it can be running hot even though the water temperature stays consistent 198 to 202 degrees. I have a SCT Tune connected also so I'm able to read air flow, water temperature ect and it doesn't go above 202 degrees and the cooling fan is working. It just boils over during test drivers
@dannyjohnsonsgarage
@dannyjohnsonsgarage 4 жыл бұрын
Robert J. Pertillo Sr. It should be 180* or its overheating. Water boils at 212 (a little higher when pressurized and with coolant vs water) but regardless of what temperature it’s telling you it’s over 212* if it’s boiling. If you burped the system and it’s still doing it my advice is the water pump
