I'm 99% sure your issue came from the bolt backing out of your intercooler, therefore allowing super hot air to bypass the intercooler and go directly into that cylinder making it detonate and cause all that damage. The bolt falling out of the intercooler lines up exactly with that cylinder that lifted the head/torched itself. You'd have an instant 250-350* or higher "depending on how hard you're spinning the blower" Charge air temp going directly into that cylinder. The charge air temp sensor is on the opposite side and might not have been able to see the temp increase as the other side of cylinders, primarily that rear one, was ingesting most of that hot air. Being on a good fuel and having a good AFR saved your other cylinders. But your AFR could be on point and you still can't pull enough timing quickly enough to solve the instant rise in charge air temp when the intercooler seal let go right above that rear cylinder

Kinda crazy I built mine with you guys on your build but I only did my short block I did the 5.4 .020over version recipe of yours at same time, and I lifted my head too racing and beating a Suzuki after beat a hellcat a redeye a ProCharged S550 and C7 Z06 all same day and the bike was the last race on my way home with temps too hot! And never had her Dyno tuned either. So my build begins again too. Good luck

I think perhaps tiny bits of the steel head gasket is what got inside when it failed. I thought the rear main bearing took the most abuse because it is supporting the hp from all 8 cylinders because the hp is put throught the flange and then the trans.

Good evening. In my opinion. I think it definitely leaned out and melted the tip of the spark plug and that's what bounded around on top of the piston. Just a theory. Still looks good 👍. Hell of an engine builder
