I'm french, and I just owned one. Damn I love this tractor. Made In U.S.A, serial number 60741. From 1976, I have an old puppy there ! :D

I used to use spray carb cleaner as starting fluid. Then I was talking to another small engine mechanic I knew and he told me that he used 2 stroke gas in a spray bottle. The 2 stroke oil helps lube the rings on engines that have been sitting for a while, and if you are working on weedeaters and chainsaws it’s especially important. You can pick up spray bottles at Dollar Tree for a buck.

A lot of times they wouldn’t start because the wire for the spark plug would come off of the coil you might have to pull the rubber boot off the end of it and clean it and push it back up in there make an adjustment with a screwdriver or a pair of needle nose pliers make sure that things get in the right contacts with the coil also those carburetors can get out of adjustment pretty easy overtime you have to readjust the screws in it make sure it’s getting gas

Nice old Deere, used to have a 210 w/ a Kohler 10HP, owned it 20 years, did piston and rings once in all that time, very reliable machine. Same unit as yours, had variator, lots of power, great mowing machine. Those Kohler engines have a crank driven compression release, works by centrifugal force, your compression reading will be low if it's sticking making it hard to start / run. Don't worry, you'll sort it out. Looks like the head gasket is fine from here :)

I wonder what would happen if he put his hand over that carburetor when he’s trying to start it sometimes that’ll help them old carburetors start sucking better

Just saw this. I have the exact same mower...ran out of gas last week. No biggie, fill the tank...would NOT start. You can crank all day, it's not going to start!! The pulse pump wont pump until the engine actually runs. I used ether...all better!!

Smoke was coming from the exhaust. When you you first started cranking a little bit of what looked like a mouse nest came out, might want to check that out. I think your on the right track with the head gasket, time for a compression and leak test.

If your talking about the guy I think your talking about. Then he's been asking 500 for those molds for years. However the molds had very little use and are still in great condition. Kit Body's are really big right now. Priced right they sell...

A bit late but your points need adjusted. I have a 212 just like that and when it fires like that it means your pointed need adjustment. .020 is what I adjusted mine to.

It's sometimes hard to tell whether there's a compression leak in the "K" series Kohler engines 'cause they have a built-in compression leak for easier starting. One of the valves is kept slightly off its seat below about 700 rpms, I think it is. That means that there'll always be that "Puffing" noise as it cranks. Of course, this machine may have a blown head gasket too -- you never know. Seems like the starter works -- for now.

Running a starter that long , very bad. I have a 216 that was like that , clean the carb, new plug, and fresh gas. Set carb at 1 1/2 turns on both screws. If it wont start, check fuel pump. Never never never crank on a starter like that. See Tryal fixes all, and there's your dinner

I have a 212 and right now I’m having issues when I back up it makes a noise almost kind of a squeak you almost get the idea it’s trying to lock up or hang up a little bit in reverse and when I plow snow or try and push driveway stone with it even just a little tiny bit the wheels will spin and lose traction I didn’t used to have that problem plowing snow I have the wheels chained and I have been able to push a whole Lotta snow with that in the past anyone know what could be causing this issue???
