Guess who’s finally done
I really thought I could’ve finished it faster, but clearly I underestimated how much an almost 5 minute animatic would’ve taken me
Also the sun God here is Apollo not Helios
I know in the odyssey it’s Helios but I had no idea about his design or if he is still the Sun God in the musical
Apologies for the wait but thank you for being patient

I love how much you involved the crew! I think it's not talked about just how much Odysseus' actions hurt them. If Eurylochus did not knock Odysseus out, they probably would have killed him. In fact Eurylochus sitting with Odysseus until he wakes up and then calls him "Ody" almost seems like he's guarding him. Because his crew turned into monsters for their king and captain. They trusted he would always have their best interest amd safety at heart. They were the last survivors of all the constant tragedies that befell them. And it's even stated in the last song "different beasts" that they have adopted amd obeyed all of Odysseus' orders to ensure their safety. So when he sacrificed them. When he preplanned killing 6 of the crew who have grown to be the tightest group of friends... he lost their trust. Their love. Their belief in him. They now know that they were just pawns to get Odysseus home and he never once gave a damn about them, and if he did, he doesn't now. To quote a line from Delicious in Dungeon, "once you lose the trust of your crew, you lose everything."

I was thinking about this too, how utterly devastating Odysseus’s choice in Scylla would’ve been to them. The way they look as Eurylochus begs Odysseus to tell him there was another plan in place, and then their expressions when Odysseus shouts that he can’t, it looked like they were *all* hoping he had a different plan they couldn’t see right until Odysseus’s response makes it clear that his plan was indeed to sacrifice 6 men (and to make it worse for Eurylochus, *he* is the one to have given 5 of them the torches, 5 of the dead died because of Eurylochus’s own hand, it must have felt like he fed them to Scylla himself). Every last member of that crew had to be aware by that point that the plan was the sacrifice, Odysseus didn’t look shocked by her presence and they would’ve realized he specified 6 torches which is the exact number of men Scylla ate and at least two of them would’ve seen him move out of the way of one of the heads so that Scylla would eat someone who wasn’t Odysseus, yet all of them basically wanted Odysseus to at least lie to them. By this point, they quite literally cannot trust anyone but each other and to learn their captain, the man who got them through ten years of war without losing anyone and who they literally followed into the Underworld because he said Circe said so, knowingly gave up six of them? The fact that the six were essentially randomly chosen so he would’ve accepted any of their deaths as well? That’s heartbreaking for them, as if the past 12-ish years of relying on one another meant absolutely nothing to Odysseus so long as he gets home alive. And of course, it clearly was not a decision Odysseus made lightly, he’s unhappy to learn the only way to avoid Poseidon is by traveling through Scylla’s lair and he basically begs Eurylochus not to fight so that Odysseus won’t lose him as well because Eurylochus is betraying his king by doing so, but that doesn’t change how devastating this would be to everyone else. It says something that Odysseus is stabbed in defense of Eurylochus while Eurylochus is attempting to avenge the six men Odysseus sacrificed to Scylla, after Odysseus had Eurylochus be the one to give 5 of them the torches that made them targets, and that Odysseus is literally kicked off the sword so that Eurylochus can be offered a hand up. That’s a powerful visual that boils down to what you said about the crew losing all faith and trust in Odysseus; kicking Odysseus is an act of disgust with what Odysseus has done

But they don't obey him. They betray him several times over, that's how things got this bad. Odysseus was more faithful to them than they ever were to him. Also, they were on the run from Poseidon. Eurolychus is completely wrong here -- there was no option where they all get to live.
@ChasehaWing
@ChasehaWing 28 күн бұрын
@@KrytenKoro They opened a bag 2 years ago and have been sailing through hell since. They haven't done anything against Odysseus since then. One could say their crimes are a LITTLE disportionate. Especially since all this sailing is because SOMEONE told the Cyclops their name, address and social security number! It's not mercy or a lack of ruthlessness that killed 557 men. It was the blatant arrogance of their king. Also why not find another ship, ransack their crew and use them as sacrifices. If the sirens are sinking ships, than someone must be sailing them. Speaking of which: cut out the Sirens vocal cords and dress them as men so Scylla goes after them instead of the crew since she was attracted to the torches. Why not have legit volunteers who may have given up all hope and are willing to make this sacrifice to save the rest of the crew so the rest can go home? Or they could have come up with at least some way to fight. Really brainstorm this problem together. There are other ways to pay the toll... they just were not as easily acquired or readily available as Odysseus' own crew, who did not know what he was planning. He needed meat shields, and decided to turn them into it. Odysseus is the most intelligent man in Greece who uses out of the box methods to win. He was the inventor of THE Trogen Horse. Give this man time to cook and he can do almost anything... but today he chose to brute force his way through a shortcut. And it cost him everything.

@@slasher3336 Generally speaking, getting turned into an animal by a goddess is a one-way trip in Greek Mythology; Eurylochus doesn't know how to turn pigs back into people and he's DAMN sure Odysseus doesn't either. So when he's telling Odysseus they should get the rest of the crew off the island before Circe comes for them, too, he is speaking from the perspective that his scouting party is done for and he doesn't want his brother to get baconated trying to save them; if Hermes hadn't thought it'd be funny to get involved (and neither Eurylochus nor Odysseus had any idea he would) Ody would have gotten himself killed trying to outwit Circe. The situations would only have been equivalent if Eurylochus had DELIBERATELY sent a group of men into Circe's abode to get turned into pigs as a distraction while he and the rest of the crew moved on.

The statue's eyes opening is rather like that 1970s film Jason & the Argonauts, when Hercules is taking treasure from a pedestal of a massive bronze statue on the isle of Talos, despite being warned by Jason to take noting from the island. Hercules justifies his theft by saying 'if the gods didn't want people to take this gold, then they wouldn't have left it unguarded.' At which point the head of the statue grids around to look down upon them, and slowly the huge bronze figure, Talos, gets down off his plinth and sh*t gets real.

I'd like to point out that Odysseus almost got them all home safely. That he got them safely through war and all the way home, but they didn't trust him enough to not open the wind bag. That decision got hundreds killed, and it was their fault. But he still tried to save as many as possible. Thing is, there was no way to save everyone from Scylla. She would have torn the ship apart to get her meal, and that would kill everyone. They couldn't fight her, they'd all die. He could sacrifice six or kill everyone. The was always going to be blood on his hands, all he could choose was whose.

Poseidon was waiting at Ithaca, none of his men where gonna make it home. And that bag was a trap, Aeolus literally told Odysseus the only way he was going to win their game was by killing his friends. This isn't a fable about friends getting you killed its about how pride screws you over.
@slasher3336
@slasher3336 11 күн бұрын
@@themenagerie5247 If Poseidon was waiting at Ithaca then why was he right there near The Land of the Giants after the bag was opened? And even if the bag _was_ a trap, I don't think him not wanting to kill his friends was necessarily an act of _pride._ I'm not entirely sure him shouting his name and title at the cyclops in the heat of an extremely emotional moment was him being prideful, either. Yes, it was very much one of, if not the key mistake that set the whole epic in motion, but don't forget that before Polities was killed and he had a calm mind, he had sense enough to say his name was Nobody instead. I could see him hyping himself up like that as an attempted intimidation tactic in the same way some animals puff up their bodies to look larger to scare away potential predators. He didn't kill the cyclops because he still wanted to avoid any unnecessary death, but by basically saying "We didn't want to hurt you, but you forced us to. Remember that we could've killed you, and I and my crew will come back to finish the job if you continue to be violent." he was hoping to keep the cyclops docile. If it was truly pride, he likely wouldn't have added "nor mythical" when he claimed he wasn't a man. He had no clue that Poseidon was the cyclops' father. TL;DR: I don't think it was pride that was his downfall, but the caring emotions left behind by Polities, instead.

Jorge said that many things will be changed in Epic from the original source material, those could very well be Apollo’s cattle if it fits the story. But guess we’ll find out in God Games for sure when it’s Apollo’s turn.

@@Artemis704 I think it’s Helios. The island they landed on was Thrinacia, which housed the cattle of Helios. Or at least the statue is supposed to be Helios and not Apollo. It looks to be Apollo in this animatic but i think it’s incorrect.
@Artemis704
@Artemis704 Ай бұрын
@@imaginarylivingbody7154 Ah okay! Thank you and sorry to the original commenter. I had thought that it was Apollo as in mythology he could be pretty vengeful, and as he is Zeus' son it would make sense to send him. I also thought that the sacred cows were Apollo's because of that myth when Hermes was born that he stole Apollo's cattle. Sources seem to be pretty mixed on the matter of whose they were though, so as this is epic we can stick to the Odysseys version. Helios also makes sense now that I think about it because Apollo will be in the Wisdom saga and will have his own instrument and motifs- which in retrospect we would have heard if it was him in the song.

I can’t cope with all the emotions I got from this animatic rn it’s amazing all these little touches and you captured their emotions so well, the betrayal the crew feels after they realise eurylochus is right, the part where perimedes kicks Ody from his sword was played like 10 times in a row here, its such a devastating cruel move and odys helplessness when he’s tied to this pole… straight going to my playlist

The angles during green fight!!!!!!!! I love how Odysseus was tied, too. He still can stand and does so when he negotiates and (even if it was unintentional idk if it was or wasn’t) it works as a good conveyor of the power dynamic between Odysseus and Eurylochus I’m so glad I found your channel

To be fair to Odysseus Eurylochus _did_ impatiently open the bag of wind thinking it was treasure by betraying Odysseus’s word and going behind his back instead of waiting just a tiny bit longer to get home. Imo Eurylochus is still in the bad about that. Sure he apologized but he knew how badly Odysseus wants to get home and not get killed by every force in the Greek Mythos

@RoshieFlower77 14 күн бұрын
@@ZbuuzaHonestly, Apollo and Helios are basically the same person. Although I know that Circe is helios’s daughter and it’s Helios’s cows and all that. Apollo and Helios are kind of the sun version of Artemis and Selene. My understanding is that Helios/Selene are the physical embodiment of the sun/moon, and Apollo/Artemis are kind of the god or goddess that REPRESENTS the sun/moon.
@Zbuuza
@Zbuuza 14 күн бұрын
@@RoshieFlower77 sorry but that's intensely incorrect. They are not interchangeable. Helios isn't Artemis's twin. Apollo is not Circe's father. They have different lives and serve different purposes. Apollo isn't The Sun God, he's a god who happens to also be associated with sunny days and sunlight. Apollo is more about human experience, the arts, music, joy. Helios is a titan, not a God, who's the embodiment of the sun itself and has many powerful children, all of whom have glowing yellow eyes that are said to produce sunbeams. Zues goes himself to serve justice not because "The Sun God" is his son; The Sun is a titan, nearly an uncle of Zues, and to disrespect him is to disrespect the entire pantheon. Helios's role cannot be understated. In addition, during the time of when the Odyssey takes place, Apollo did not exist at all yet. Apollo and Helios do not have a Greek/Roman version relationship like many people seem to believe. They coexist, because they serve different purposes. Your take is the really popular misconception, but you're wrong. It's easier for us in modern day to consider them relatively the same, because from the outside and thousands of years away, all we care about is "the sun" and that's the end of it. It was much more complex than that.
@RoshieFlower77
@RoshieFlower77 14 күн бұрын
@@Zbuuza Oh, I didn’t know all that. I’m grateful that you took the time to give me such a thourough description. I got into Greek mythology not that long ago, so there’s a lot of common misconceptions that I still carry. So, I suppose Apollo is a bit more of a human-ish god, while Helios essentially IS the sun. Apollo is Zeus’s sun, a god of music, arts, and the god who represents the sun. Helios is a titan. He doesn’t represent the sun- he IS the sun, and just as powerful.

I just came back to this video to say Eurylochus is a little bit of a hypocrite. Remember back in the Circe saga song Puppeteer? Some of Odysseus' men got turned into pigs and Eurylochus came back and reported that? Odysseus wanted to go save them and Eurylochus wanted to bail and just leave those men behind. But God forbid Odysseus makes the hard choice to sacrifice 6 men to make sure everyone doesn't die to Scylla 🙄

I have been saying this also. I agree that Eurylochus is a hypocrite here. Man is pissed off that Ody sacrificed some of their men (beyond messed up, I know) but guess what? The rest of them are still alive. The choices that Eury made, he brought all of this onto himself and the rest of the crew
