Thank you Greg, that's very kind of you to say. I try to live by the golden rule "Treat others as you would want to be treated" so I ask myself, if I was struggling with smoking a pipe would I want somebody to help me through my struggle? And the answer is yes, so i try the best I can to do that through my channel. Cool smokes to you my friend. 😃😃😃👍

I started smoking my pipe at 52 years old 3 weeks ago, never smoke one in my life. I found your tutorial videos out of sheer luck and I'm glad I did. I did a power marathon for almost 5 straight hours just watching your videos, because the first week my pipe was burning hot, my tongue was scorched LOL(I found the tongue scorch in funny in a painful way because I didn't listen to your technique). After using the techniques that you talked about in this video, all my problems are gone. You are the man!!!. I appreciate you taking the time to teach us old dogs at my age how to smoke a pipe properly. I'm having a lot of fun with your blend club reviews. It is giving me a chance to explore a lot of options in flavors of tobacco I never knew anything about. You are the man.

Yeah! I've been using that method for a few months now, and it works great. I learned the breathe method here, and kinda stumbled upon the side breathing method, and then found myself combining them! It's become my main way of smoking! It's very comfortable, and I don't even really think about it now, and my pipes all stay much cooler than they did! Thanks!

Speaking of combining techniques, I am new and have been smoking aromatics, and have been getting terrible tongue bite, not to mention my pipe has been getting super-hot. Well, I took your advice, purchased some Frog Morton on the Town, used the pinch method to pack my pipe, and smoked it using the breathe method. I have to say that it was a totally different experience. I didn’t get any tongue bite while smoking my pipe, the pipe stayed much cooler and never got hot. I also noticed that I only had to relight it a couple of times. Thanks so much for all the tips! I’ll keep working on refining these techniques so hopefully I can get to the point where I can try other tobaccos, like Virginias, and not have to worry about getting tongue bite or hot pipe. Cheers!

David, your success in solving your problem with tongue bite is my main goal for my channel, it's not subscriptions, it's not to stroke my ego (don't really have one) and it's certainly not to be famous, (as one person put it at a recent show I attended). It's to help struggling pipe smokers, and to start new pipe smokers out in the right direction, I am very pleased you are enjoying your pipe, thank you my friend. 😃😃😃

Returning to pipe smoking, after a some 35 year break. I've found the breath method a bit challenging, but did kind of combine with mouth draw and then exhale through the pipe stem. Every 3-4 breaths, I draw slightly with mouth and then breath out through the pipe stem. For now, this seems to work.

Great vid. The breath method has been a game changer for me (a relatively new pipe smoker)...tongue bite and that nasty, sour taste are virtually eliminated. But, I do find that my pipe still goes out plenty and sometimes I don't get as much flavor with the breath method. In an informal way, I had incorporated a more traditional draw in between breath method "cycles", and this worked better. I'm excited to try the side draw method though. Keep the videos coming - this has been one of the most helpful and thoughtful channels I've found in the YTPC.

Thanks so much! This is like the "Yoga" of pipe smoking. You know how they always talk about relaxing and breathing? I watched the video on the breath method this morning and tried it tonight with good success thanks to your video! I'm going to try this side draw as well. I found the breath method really helped relax me more and slow my cadence; this lead to a very nice smoke (also took your tips on drying out the tobacco which helped in no small part). Kudos!

Muttnchop 👍👍👍👍great job brother! I'm trying to get this method down.... Not easy so far.. But I just got a Peterson p lip and it is helpful for tongue bite.... @MuttnchopPiper8 жыл бұрын
Thank you my friend, my advice on the deeming crap is prepare the best you can, purchase what you can before August 8th, stocking your cellar but don't go to extremes, I try to purchase about a hundred bucks a month, which is all I can afford. I still feel looking at the situation that litigation after August 8th will halt any major impact for a while, I could be wrong, so I am keeping in close contact with my contact in the industry, if things change I will do a video and advise a course of action then, this is the best I can advise. 👍👍👍

I have a question. I have a very big pipe, I think. And no matter what I do, I always smoke it for 50 minutes, no more, no less, without relights. Is it alright? The bowl does get hot, but I can hold it in my hand easily. Don’t know how to tell if it is “too hot”. By the way, the whole experience is satisfying and enjoyable, so no problem there

Hi Muttnchop piper Thank you for the great videos, I have a question about saliva.... I don’t know why but when I clench the pipe in my mouth I tend to exert a lot of saliva right away, what would be the correct way for me? And I find my self using pipe cleaners more than not to dry the stem... any tips please Thanks again
@MuttnchopPiper7 жыл бұрын
Omar Haltam - this is something I have struggled with, and still do from time to time, if you are a new pipe smoker then it’s just something that is going to take time, what I do is clench, until I feel the saliva start to flow, then I remove the pipe, swallow, then clench again. Eventually your mouth or brain, or something changes to where the saliva won’t flow as strong. I also changed to using pipes with filters, it will soak up the excess saliva so I am not using pipe cleaners any more. 😒😒😒
@omarhaltam7 жыл бұрын
Muttnchop Piper thanks for the quick reply, i will try that and experiment.
@Mike-yv9qs7 жыл бұрын
I agree with Muttonchop. I'm still relatively new to pipe smoking, and had this issue, but it has gotten better over time. I don't like using filters so another method I use, from time to time, is to cover the bowl with a couple of fingers and flick my wrist to expel some of the moisture from the stem towards to ground. Kind of like you would shake a Polaroid picture like in kzbin.info/www/bejne/hojKp3qgds2pf9km54s but more vigorously (Outkast song "Hey Ya!" optional).

Does this involve inhaling?
@MuttnchopPiper8 жыл бұрын
No, Daniel it does not, here is some homework to get you used to breathe smoking fill a glass with water, put a straw in it, close your mouth around the straw were no air can be drawn through your mouth. Start breathing rhythmically through your nose, in out, in out. At the same time sip some water into your mouth as you breath in through your nose and spit it back into the straw as you breathe out through your nose. After you get used to this try the same exercise with your pipe and you should have it. It will take some practice to use this technique without thinking about it, but with everything we learn through repartition. 👍👍👍👍
@danielsanford63168 жыл бұрын
Thank you, sir! I'll practice this.

Having success with the breath technique after the cup of water practice you recommended - thank you! If you could help with a couple of questions: I still am having the pipe go out, frequently, with this method I'm unsure how much distance I want my tongue from the stem as I do this. Unrelated - although I've been smoking a pipe for about a year, I still get a nicotine buzz and visual "tobacco haze." Other threads seem to point to using different types of tobacco to avoid this or taking in sugar. Any advice if the "buzz" is not your goal?
@MuttnchopPiper8 жыл бұрын
+Daniel Sanford make sure you are packing your pipe properly, and do not push down too hard when you tamp your ash, make sure you are lightly pushing some smoke back through the stem, this is designed to keep your tobacco lit as you employ the Breathe method. Question : do all tobacco's no matter what you smoke give you a nicotine buzz?
