Tip for car buyers. If you're financing your car, don't get insurance quotes until after you've gotten pre-approval for your car finance. The credit checks that insurance companies (and dealerships) do can lower your credit score slightly which can cause your interest rate to go up. Had to learn this the hard way.

Another tip before buying a car is to take a cheaper insurance like home contents insurance for six months then buy a car and insure it under them to get a preferential rate. Home contents typically cost R100-R200 for 50k cover.

With me they(MiWay) started with 1.2K and a year later the premiums increased to 1.4K. And you are so correct, we changed gates when I stay and they increased the premium from 1.4K to 1.9K. Thank you for the helpful content. Much appreciated 👍

another tip, if you have a second vehicle, there is no need for car hire as this can save you an additional 100 bucks, also if you live up in the reef and not parked undercover its mandatory to take hail cover otherwise your new ride will be full of beauty spots, which can be expensive to repair.

This is really helpful. I can say i'm in the same position as you were. My licence is a month old and i just bought an Audi A1 which was R620k including the options which i bought cash. Ngapha i'm 22 turning 23 in May. When i look for insurance they mentioned my age, my marriage status yohhhh its too much. there was one insurer which said i needed to pay R7.9k per month lol. But now i pay R3.2k with an excess of R10 000 but i'll still look for more options. I think what's keeping my premium is because i bought it cash. These things are stressful yeyii

@@MuziSambo I got quotes from Dialdirect, Outsurance , Hippo, Discovery and the best one was Activate By Absa which is what i'm currently using. Funny enough Outsurance were the one who said for the value of my car if i chose to include the extras its going to be R7.9k. Ngathi loMlungu uyadakwa ngayishiya lapho.

@@compton8301 I have a sound hiring company that caters for big events with a capacity of 1500+. I started it when i was 18 immediately after matric but it was a small sound then i got recognition from nearby pubs and tarvens which allowed me to upscale the sound i have then in 2020 i was able to secure a Student accommodation which also gave me passive income during the start of the pandemic. 2022 we are here still pushing for more accommodations

Made a quote with Hippo, the cheapest was 1950, I haven't bought a car yet so I quoted on a suzuki swift GLX Auto which I am planning on getting, I am 26 female got my license 2 weeks back. That's alot of money I was shocked 😲

Made a quote with naked insurance and was 805 on the GLX, then 772 for the GL model. Then tried hippo they quoted me 919 for the GLX being the cheapest. I’m also planning on getting myself a car later this year, got my licence in 2013 and haven’t bought a car since then. So the license thing does help reduce your premiums

Insurance is not a savings account, once you give them the money it's gone! The only way you benefit is through a claim or cashback rewards if you don't claim in a period of 3 years or more depending on the company. It's like medical aid, you pay every month but if you don't get sick you don't get any money back.

The address change isn’t necessarily true with all insurers. When I changed my address from rural to suburb, I saved more than R500. My brother did the same and also saved.

I'm aware of that and I mentioned it in part 1. Here I was just exaggerating so that people can be aware that some insurers can use location change to exploit them. In my case when I moved from rural to suburb the premium increased, and also when I moved suburb to suburb it increased again. I knew something was dodgy because with all my moves I was moving from a less secured to a more secured safer environment.

"Affect" is not a word I would use, however insurers do pull a credit check on you when you do a quote. The inquiry appears on your credit profile but normally disappears in 3 months or so. But that doesn't damage your credit profile per se. It is not advisable to do too many quotes within 3 months. If you do 3 quotes now, try to at least wait for 3 months before doing more quotes.

And stop taking high excess just because you want to pay less premium. You can't be paying less than a thousand for a car which is over 500k and expect a miracle. You will hit a cow and try to claim only to find out that the damage is below your excess fee and claim wont be attended to. How do u sit on a 100k excess and expect insurance to fix a car with a damage of 60k.
