@allanbriggs90075 жыл бұрын
Had the pleasure of seeing RL in Australia in the early 90's - after the Dave Stewart doco. "Deep Blues" was released. He was with a couple of other artists. At the end - the audience (1/2 full venue) asked him back for an encore. He asked what we wanted him to play. The audience answer - to a person was "Play anything - we just want to listen." Signed autographs - came across as a very humble man. He got a terrific ovation from an appreciative audience.

When I played Mississippi Fred McDowell for an older co-worker, he thought it was 2 or 3 guys on guitar. These riffs are very basic and simple; anyone can learn them. The real trick is in the right-hand technique, which is not easy to master and get it to sound right without tangling up the rhythm and lead. I’ve only known about this unbelievably talented blues legend for about 10 years or so, he is one of the absolute best blues musicians of my lifetime. R.I. P. R.L., God bless you and your family for your great work in the music 🎶 I love the most and used to play years ago.

RL and John Lee were my introductions to the blues. I love that one of them seemed to revel in the blues, and the other treated them like a second line event in New Orleans. Long live RL

Got something against second line? I mean the real thing, of course, not the product.

@@beamignon3057 what I was trying to say, inarticulately, was that John Lee seemed to more enjoy the darker side of the blues, wallow in it...RL wanted to sing the blues to get rid of them, and you can’t wipe the smile off his face when he’s playing them for you

What amazes me most is his very pure and melodic sounding voice on his early work and the raucous sounding rasp later on when he worked with The John Spencer Blues Explosion.

Really love RL's rhythm. So much bounce and technique. And that soulful voice. My favorite is him playing See My Jumper out in a field. Another favorite of his is Someday Baby. Thank you for your music and heart brother in blues✌️
