i made custom skin because: it would be boring to take someone else's skin. and no one has probably made my perfect skin anyway. i suck at drawing, but i do still draw occasionally and do other creative/artistic endeavours. i'd say i have enough artistic integrity, experience, creativity, and ability to look at other skins for guidance, to make a not-bad minecraft skin i guess "artist that couldn't find the skin you wanted" would be the most accurate from what you suggested (my skin is: half-human half-fox, blue-pink gradiented dress, short black hair, and heterochromia eyes) on bedrock edition i have a character creator skin, but for java edition i went with an edited default skin before deciding that making a fully custom skin would be doable and fun

I'm in the gray area: I have almost no artistic experience. I couldn't find any good skins (imo) and I didn't want to go for some wonky person or game character that looks so disingenuous and like "fake" to me (I don't know how else to describe it, the skins that look like people just feel wrong) and I instead made my own skin and had a whole idea behind what I wanted the skin to look like and what each part was meant to represent. I had no idea whether my skin was cool or not but that didn't matter, I made it and adjusted it until I was content, but people have commented and even asked if the skin was custom because they liked it. The skin is essentially 5 different robots that work as one functioning one (imagine a Voltron esque idea) where each arm, the head, torso, and legs were their own robot with an eye or two, their own unique color style per robot, and also tried to make the robots have noticeable differences. The front has the gauges and eyes as I said, but the back has more of a "these robots are sharing a combined system" because on the back of the character their colors form a connected shape that tries to show that they are more deeply connected despite being clearly delineated.

I found what I thought looked like a cool mage skin someone made, altered the colors from blue to red. It's true though, everyone in MC servers targets the Dream skins aggressively even when they are being normal.. Kinda hurts as a Dream fan myself but I use a custom skin I made so I'm good. Also I've seen more Techno skins than Dream skins believe it or not.. Probably because people are scared to use a Dream skin.

I'm a combination of aesthetic and custom made. I had a lot of fun making the skin, and it took years to be fully comfortable with how it looked. I kept tweaking and adjusting it for WAY too long... why do I care about how I look in a game that I hardly ever play with others on more than I care about my real-life avatar??? XD Update to this: The flowers are now a part of my minecraft identity. I don't know when it started, but they're on almost every version of my skin now.

@@hallowedchromee310 I tried going with an original design, although I have zero doubt that someone else has done something similar or nearly identical. it's more or less supposed to reflect my own avatar, so I wasn't exactly copying off of someone else. its likely if I get any traction as an entertainer at all though, at least part of my design will be copied too, which is perfectly fine, as long as they don't completely rip off of me. and ofc, all the Minecraft skins I'm making for myself as well as any png and model of my avatar will likely also reflect what I'm trying to strive to look like irl as well.
