Sounds really good! Getting the tuning right is 99% of the kit sounding good in the mics, and you nailed that. Also, I really like having a little compressor running on an insert channel on my mixer. It can really help with dialing in the sound especially when certain mic placement options aren't possible.

MXL Mics punch well above their weight. I used to only have two inputs, so I had just a kick in, but then an MXL R77, which is a ribbon, as a mono overhead. Now, that ribbon is used mainly as a room mic, but its fantastic. Also found a kit roughly 10 years ago that came with a 550 and 551, I've used the 550 (large diaphragm) to mic the shell of one of my snares (Yamaha Anton Fig), and the 551 (small diaphragm) will go on my hi hat. Most of the time, I only end up using the hi hat mic to get the "chick," and I'll mute it when I'm actually hitting it. I think of why they're not a "household name" with mics is that a lot of people are turned off due to how inexpensive they are, but in the right situation, they're pretty awesome.

Gates and compressors are your friend. You can make them sound even better. Placement really is about the sound you’re going for. Just play around and find what you prefer. As far as overheads just make sure they are the same distance from the snare so there is no phase issues

I thought MXL was a household name, but maybe that was just in my circle of friends. Seems like everyone I've known for the last 20 years has had an MXL condenser mic or two (or more!) in their collection because they're super affordable and fairly highly regarded for their price point.

I've watched a few of your videos now & noticed you are taking care of all of your own drum tech stuff at the venues. Do you mic the bass drum internally at all? If so, Have you checked into using the Kelly Shu at all? I recently got two of them for each of my bass drums & I have to say, I love it. Total game changer & saves a ton of time with less stuff to set up & tear down.

😂 awww, you're cute, squeezing out tears for a wooden box 😋💖 They have a variety of packaging, they should put everything in finished wooden boxes with reinforced corners for road wear... Ayyyye, the hair came out 😍😍😍 Uhoh, looks like a demo is coming.... Niiiice. They have a pretty good "natural" sound. You did well with placement.

Have you tried putting a blanket over the front of your bass drum? It isolates the bass drum mic and adds a sub kick sound to it. Sometimes mounting your snare mic on a stand instead of a clip really brings out the snare sound. Sorry, I’m a tech nerd.
