Bought the MXR M81 last year to use with my Fender P-Bass, and it kills. Buy it! You will not be disappointed.

Love the versatility of this pedal, at around 9:54 you went into some seriously Marcus Millerish tone turf. Thanks for posting.

On my GAS list! Great versatility and transparency. The mid sweep seems to make that range come alive. MXR makes great gear.

That thing sounds great with the other effects, especially with the overdrive! I where is it at an your signal chain for the video? It was kind of hard to tell which effects were pre m81 (or post)

i play like you played at 2:22 ... do you think this is clear enough for live usage? big stages and big sound? would you recommend any other preamps in particular for that kind of playing? neck pick up - no tone - bass all the way up... i play a pbass with flatwounds, reggae and a bit of soul, so you get an idea of what i'm shooting for... nice video by the way. thank you!

A brilliant demo that shows an array of various tones through slap and harmonics: I diggit ! The preamp and compressor build up very well together. What's the "Nose" pedal forr ?? Cheers :)

+Agustin Santana Thanks! You can see the hole chain at 12:50, the compressor is before the peramp.

sounds killer, especially with the octamizer. great vid! what's that "nose" pedal?
@TooSlowTube8 жыл бұрын
The Nose pedal appears to be a line / loop selector - a basic A/B switch, with no mixing or level controls.

Without scooping the mids, what would you recommend for a bright & punchy rock tone?
@pertybass10 жыл бұрын
Boost treble + bass and also boost the mids at about 800hz

I'm playing in 3 bands with differents amps and it's hard to get the tones I want everytime we have to change music studios. I would like to make my sound more standard playing all amps in flat. Do you think this preamp will help me?

hi bro, I saw another video you reviewed the Boss CS-3 (Compressor Sustainer) which i really interested in, plus the price is way more affordable compare to the 'always on' MXR Compressor in this video. What do you think about these 2 compressors, and which one should i go for ? Thanks in advance
@pertybass9 жыл бұрын
Nguyễn Thái Bảo Hoàng Hi Brother, As you said, its all about the price tag and the budget. The Boss CS-3 "colored" my sound, and added highs that I didn't liked. Other than that its a great pedal for slap sound (for that reason).
@ntbhoang9 жыл бұрын
any other good compressor that you would suggest to me ? My local store only has Boss pedal like CS-3 or Boss LMB3, what do you think about the 2 pedals.
@pertybass9 жыл бұрын
From those two I recommend the LMB.

Very nice video, thanks. I'm considering getting one of these to provide a bit of extra tone shaping to my setup. Also it's nice that it can be an emergency direct box in a pinch. Do you use it as basically an EQ or does it serve any other function for you? Do you leave it on all the time? Do you know what the purpose is of having input and output levels instead of just a single volume knob? Do you recommend putting it before or after other effects in your signal chain? Thanks again.
@pertybass9 жыл бұрын
Reluctant Dragon I use it as basically an EQ and a booster
@amnesiac19759 жыл бұрын
Just a question, why does a bass player need a preamp? He's got a preamp into his amplifier. Why do you use it?
@pertybass9 жыл бұрын
First, not every club has an amp, Second, sometimes the amp sucks and you need an extra tone, and third, you can change your preamp to a different one during the show.
@turbulencect7638 жыл бұрын
+amnesiac1975 Just to add to Perty's comments - There are many amp manufacturers whose preamp section is not all that great, so this pedal (or other preamps) allows you to bypass an amp's front end. You can do this by taking the output of the preamp pedal and sending it into the amp's effects loop input. This way you're now using the pedal's preamp but the amp's power. Also, some bass players (such as myself) don't bother with an amp on stage any longer. So I use the preamp to send my signal to the mixer and I just use the monitor wedge or in-ears to hear myself.

Stop fiddling!!! Choose a setting , play a riff, and then A/B it against the pedal being on and off. That's how you can tell what it does.
