This is what real motorcycle riding is. No chrome, cup holders, radio, etc. I love my dr650 supermoto

I own an 08 DR650SE, very happy with it. It is not a highway cruiser. After reading many reviews, the only place the KLR would have an edge over a DR would be on the highway. This is primarily do to the KLR's wind protection, gearing more toward street riding and extra weight, although around town the DR performs much better. IMHO from the unbiased professional reviews I have read the DR comes out as an overall favorite for it's size class in dual-sport bikes. Just my opinion.

Just got me a 2013 DR650... No worries mate. Most fun I've ever had on 2 wheels

Maybe your on another planet, I also ride an air cooled Harley! The DR650SE is an excellent dual sport, easy to maintain, go anywhere bike. It is not a touring bike, was not designed to be one. Designed to kick ass and take names, which it does very well indeed!

"What is old is new again." For the unenlighten,the beauty of air cooled engine is its simplicity, less weight, less maintenance and less things to go wrong. With modern technology and material, the engine is built to withstand extreme heat and very unlikely to overheat even in desert environment.

@Jimmy Doran you can still buy a brand new dr650se and the drz400e in australia. they have consistently been in the top selling dual sport bikes since their introduction and both are known for outstanding reliability.

air cooled is actually very reliable when you're looking for a bullet proof bike.

air cool is nice and simple, dr650 is tried and true.

DRZ400 is more expensive than a DR for a reason. I agree with you. There is definitely a pogo stick effect sometimes when riding off road, and it really kills momentum.

I've been waiting to see a real apples to apples comparison between the klr and the dr for a long time. I noticed on the honda that in a good headwind it can't keep up with the klr at the 70mph range and seemed to be more geared for dirt. How does the dr perform at highway speeds?
@curly2778413 жыл бұрын
@pip3214 $5500 out the door, is common. Cheaper prices are available during the off season. I bought mine inthe middle of winter and paid $5200 otd and got $350 worth of extras; gel seat, luggage rack,skid plate, and lowering kit(installed).

I love my DR, but the paint under the tank has started to peal. Like the underside wasn't painted very well/enough. Also the ethanol in fuel ate the seals in the petcock and Suzuki only offers the whole petcock not a seal rebuild kit. As far as KLR,DR, XL. KLR is more touring, XL better offroad, DR in middle best bang for the buck ;) IMO..

Was there a lot of talk about Chuck Norris and gonads in the comments? If so, that is one of the best tongue in cheek videos ever made =D. DR 650 was my first bike, and I still love it.

Got one now, an '03, heavily modded with reliability and long distance capability in mind. I don't think I'll ever get rid of it. It might outlive me .I'm 44 😊

they where more reliable back then, no shims or expensive servicing to worry about either.

you need to change the seat, get a bigger fuel tank and windshield and, as I did, rode from north to south of south America.

a bit more of a dirt bike tire for off roading? the trailwigs are horrible in the dirt that has any moisture. you will go down fast. needs the carb jetted and air/fuel ratio screw uncovered. if you actualy ride off road dont until you get real off road tires for the dr650. need to change the sprockets too. I went down one tooth in front and its not enough. plan to go up 4 in rear too. the stock suspension is also trash for offroading. its a nice bike though lol

@dazza692 I really like the DR650SE im thinking about getting I have the XT250 with the same tires as the DR650SE that i put on my XT.

air cooled dr650 vs. klr650 liquid cooled/ dr less maintenance, also stronger engine, klr has less torque and hp. (engine wise)

You're not far from wrong. I got my 03 DR650 for $750 US, put $1,600 worth of upgrades, exhaust, seat, fork cartridges, wind screen, and carb work, and for $2,350 it will run circles around brand new one, smoothly, tightly, and in all-day comfort. Didn't sacrifice any reliability, and I'm getting 60mpg...love it, but to each his own

I believe you get more for the money with a KLR than a DR or the XRL. Bigger tank,better carrying capabilities,liquid cooled engine,less heat than an aircooled bike has to be a good thing.no?

What are this 2 idiots use to ridding? Suzuki has made this bike exactly the same since the late 90's. Never could understand why they didn't put on the same forks that are used on the DRZ400. The front forks are the weak point of the motorcycle. If you buy one change them for a better pare & if you can or will spend the money get a pair of inverted fork used somewhere & have them rebuilt. Other wise this is one of the best bike in it's class.
@skeefoopanama12 жыл бұрын
A 2 gallon tank hardly makes it a touring bike.
@djizzah6 жыл бұрын
can be a great bike but it will cost you an extra $3000 to make it so, better to buy a different bike in the first place than trying get the exhaust,changed,new differtent carby, and worst of all, TERRIBLE suspension changed completely, ie, throw away the dodgy front forks, completely remove the rear suspension spring for a changeover one, honestly just buy a different bike to begin with that has all that stuff from the get go
