Thank you for sharing this car with us. I really made a mistake letting it go 25 years ago… I couldn’t beat anyone with my 95hp stock motor but one corner, and I was gone!

Hey @MattnMathias - WOW, that's awesome on your first car being the '73 2.0L 914 - a man after my own heart :-) a good economically manageable Porsche, with enough get up and go to really enjoy!! It's never to late to find an early 914 at a reasonable market price and make the changes you might like. Thank you so much for your kind words about my '73 914 and yep, that flat 6 - 2.7L carbureted motor with the open GT engine grill - sounds great inside the cab. Thanks again and CheeRS

I knew Chuck pretty well, and new he was fond of rolling the fender lips for more tire clearance. His 914-6 was named Gronk and I recall it had a 2.8 twin plug motor. These fender lips do not appear to have been rolled.
@RichardsdeleganceАй бұрын
Hey @pg9144 - sorry for the delay, but thanks for the comment about my '73 914. And yes, the fender lips have been rolled from the top of the tire area, while the front and rear lips of the fenders where not rolled - gonna guess the profile of the fenders look better having not rolled the full length of the fender lips. I do remember in conversation with James from the parts department, he did mention Chucks 2.8L 914-6. I spoke with James several years ago to try and secure more info about the black 914 and found out then, my little '73 914 was one of a few - very special Porsche built by Chuck. And, if I remember correctly, Mark Taylor also from the parts department back then, was the previous owner. Thanks again, appreciate the comment - CheeRS

When I was living in San Diego several years ago, I use to enter her in the local Autocrosses at Jack Murphy Stadium parking lot with the PCA's San Diego Region. She was top time of the day for most of the events and loved going through that old style 901 trani gears and taking that mid-engine 914 through the corners. Hello @RUfromthe40s - sorry for my delay and yes, the fun of driving a 914, whether clean or not so clean - that little mid-engine with the flat 4 or 6 was a special collaboration between Porsche and Volkswagen. Porsche's first production year for the 914 was 1969 thru 1976 and it was 1970-1971 that the 914-6 entered the market, whether narrow body or the GT with fender flares. Now - in regards to 'the old geezer' - yes, I do lean forward, but not because I'm old - I just like to be on top of the wheel and don't wanna reach for the shift knob. If my upper back was back in the seat, and being only 5'7" - the throw forward would be a reach for me. And, the cap backwards is my trade mark - thanks for your comment, appreciate it - CheeRS

@@Richardsdelegance i agree with you but volkswagen built it witha 2.0L engine not from Porshe only in mid 70´s they made it porshe ,i bought one when i was 21 in yellow ,and it´s only natural. Porshe were first built from non destroyd unassembled vw beetle´s they beaten the panels till they were more low to the ground from the Nazi years and sold in california that allowed Ferdinad Porshe to be released from prison by the french with the sales that were a lot in the U.S. and the idea was from his son and he paid millions at the time and liberate his father ferdinad Porshe so both brands grew up together ,today i drive as my daily driver a Skoda Octavia diesel the lights knob is the same as in the most expensive new porshe 911, or like in a Audi or VW or SEAT all VW group, but only in mid 70´s the made the porshe 914/6 first only volkswagenporshe long but in metal and atatched to the body in the back what a ride even with the 2.0L VW, on top of the engine the cover says volkswagen not porshe ,the ones who say the reverse were made by it´s owners

I don't think that's an upside down 915 transmission. It has a hole in the bell housing for a "push" type clutch and the number of ribs on the "bottom" is wrong. He also said that it has a 904 main shaft. That absolutely would not fit in a 915 case and it was hardly needed. The 915 would have different gear sets. There are some other clues I'm not as sure of. What I suspect is in the car is a 901 case, similar to the 914.

@@hybriddyneguy - Hey, sorry for the delay (don't live on YT), but no way would I put the GT flares on her, because 'she's' (ooops 🙂) a low mileage 914 and the paint is original with just over 47,000 miles - so no flares. My tires are Hoosier R7's 205x50ZRx15 on all 4 corners - they are a DOT stamped tire, but also stamped saying "for competition use only" (I'm cheating and using them on the street). Their like a slick with wear bars - not for wet conditions though. I would not go larger in the front and would stay with the 205x50x15 on all 4 corners. if you autocross, then the Hoosier is the tire for you - if they're still available. I just bought a set of Yokohomo's from Tire Rack (Chad at ext. 4469 - mention my name) for my '73 911E - they're the Advan A052 - a great set of tires for street or track with a 7/32" tread pattern if I remember correctly - a soft compound with an awesome tread pattern.
