As a newbie to anime fighters, you're my favourite DBZF channel so far. Every one of your videos are accessible and informative, and you take the time to define all of the 2d fighter terminology that so many channels take for granted. DBZF will be a hugely popular intro game for other new players like myself, and I can only hope that they help your channel grow like crazy! Thank you so much for all your help, I just hit Namekian rank!

I know that the answer to this might be a bit broad, but when they keep attacking and doing blockstrings and i'm blocking and can't get out of pressure, how do i go about getting them off of me so i can go onto doing MY offense? Like what is the thought process that professional fighting game players go through in these situations? It often feels like once they start attacking and get me blocking then at that point i'm screwed and it's already too late to win.
@MiggySmalls7146 жыл бұрын
When blocking either, use back H to reflect or back assist to switch. Helps with giving you air to breathe.
@kite0impulse6 жыл бұрын
You need to pay attention to which attacks they are using in their blockstring. If you block an M or an H attack, that means it's your turn to press a button unless they're locking you down with an assist. Since you can't chain from an M/H back to an L in this game, if you press L or M after you block your opponents attack, you should beat them if they're trying to continue their blockstring. Keep in mind that some opponents will try to cancel their H into super dash in order to keep up their pressure. In that case, you need to press down + H to beat their super dash
@Viper32206 жыл бұрын
kite0impulse - But how so you do that without having really really good reaction time and observation skills? It feels like this game is all won or lost in the neutral. There doesn't seem to be much nuance besides initiating and stringing extended combos over and over. There's no teleport while getting hit, no explosive wave, no sway, no dodge, no after image etc...

Now besides reflecting, is there a way to beat mashers when they have advantage? I play with my older brother, and he plays Gogeta, Cooler, and Vegeta blue, and when it comes to pressure he constantly mashes attacks (mainly auto combos), even when I jump above, and I usually end up landing on an attack and having to block, I get hit because I try to punish, or I’m stuck blocking because I can’t go anywhere. It’s really annoying because I end up losing engagements because we clash, then I get hit with the next hit of an auto combo because I guess I never block in time? Super annoying play style, but I can beat him consistently with well enough mix ups and the occasional meaty if he’s not spamming the level 3 cooler counter on wake up. Got any tips for someone relatively new? (I play Trunks, Vegeto blue and A-21)

I'm fairly certain meaties don't work if the opponent does a wake up super. In this game all of the super startups are invincible. So for example if you hit 2l and your opponent wakes up with level 3, you've just eaten a raw level 3. I could be wrong about this, maybe they need to e up for a frame first, but I've had it happen a lot where a player does raw super after a hard knock down.

Instant air dashing or 2M slide ins. If you dash in then do a button it effectively extends your move's range and carries you a little bit close to the opponent while it's active. Or if you have Sparking on, super dash then air normals gives you pressure. Once you're on them, just throw out buttons to create block strings and use assists in between blockstrings to keep frame advantage. Give em the occasional throw to keep on on their toes. That's a basic level.

What’s your favourite methods for handling pressure in this game? I’m used to MK so these types of fighters are quite new to me and the pressure characters can put out is crazy. With assist and overheads plus sweepings I feel my defence is lacking. One character I have a hard time with was adult gohan. He throws out so many lows but at any point can do his overhead teleport. I always deal with mashers by staying calm because sometimes if i get beat by a masher i get upset and nonchalant
@SouthpawHare6 жыл бұрын
So, this only really tells half the story. Meaty attacks only work if you have the advantage already - i.e. you've already scored a knockdown and want to leverage it. You should also cover how to deal with mashers when you can't get a hit in, or when _you're_ the one getting knocked down. Notably, some fast characters like hit seem to be advantaged on block just by mashing attacks, so you'll often lose if you counter-mash with your own mashing. How do you deal with that?

Blocking is always the safest option when you are waking up.
@Sakaki986 жыл бұрын
Looey Safest option is blocking, however this is where the universal-in-fighting-games concept known as *oki/wake up game* comes into play. If you block all of the time, the enemy can do *mix-ups* where you have to guess between high-only blocks, low-only blocks, and unblockable grabs. I don't play DBFZ, so I'm not sure if this next term applies, but attacks with invincibility can beat all of these oki tools. However, you then run the risk of being *baited*(enemy backs up to make you either hit their block or miss completely) and punished for abusing them. Make sure that you're completely sure that it'll land otherwise it's not worth it(sure as in "this guy has meatied or grabbed on wake up 12 times in a row and is most likely to do it again since I've only blocked" Levels of sure) While both you and your enemy hold some cards, whoever's not waking up has the obvious advantage, and this is even more prevalent in the corner where you can't get pushed back as far when you block or get hit. Long story short, avoid hard knock downs, avoid the corner, pay attention to the mix-ups your opponent uses so that you can predict and sometimes punish them, and stop them from doing any of the above. These are things that apply to every 2D fighter from Mortal Kombat to Street Fighter. Good luck.

If you know someone is gonna spam you with grabs using dragon rush just try and keep your distance and punish them with a well time counter attack when their grab whiffs. Just watch your oppenent closely. Don't look at your own character, keep your eye on theirs so you can read their attacks. Dragon rush is quite slow and has quite a bit of start up giving you a bit of time to read it. And if they back you into a corner and attempt to grab you just hit dragon rush yourself to cancel it out or try to refect it with back+X/A. I think reflect works on grabs? I think?

How do I beat someone who only blocks? I try and go in for the guard break rush and i end up leaving myself exposed and getting hit by a combo and the people i play against are at super saiyan level and know frame perfect attacking apparently. Which forces me to be in strong defense myself but then of course they land the dragon rush on me for a powerful combo that basically wipes out my first character before I can even land a hit. Can anybody give me some solid advise?
@Zakaru996 жыл бұрын
Mixing in overheads along with your lows is the answer. In the corner instant airdash heavy is a good option, center screen if you have your opponent in a blockstring you want to use 6M to overhead, but you'll need an assist to actually combo off of 6M.
@TheAndrewJohnBennett6 жыл бұрын
Rex Rogers I only half understood that. I don’t play a lot of fighting games so you may need to break it down more. Plus I’m using a controller. I think your saying I need to land more air hits. Like if I do a quick mid jump, just short enough to execute a overhead hit but not high enough that he can blast me into the sky with a low heavy. I also do need to utilize my assists more. I like using SSB Vegeta, Teen Gohan and 18. 18 has a good defense assist I just can’t seem to Time it right.
@Zakaru996 жыл бұрын
Yes, the idea is to hit them with an air move so they're forced to change their blocking from high to low and react to what you're doing, but just jumping is very slow. You can instant air dash, which lets you air dash very low to the ground, by inputting 959 or 956 (these numbers correspond do the directions on a numpad, assuming you're facing right, so 9 is up forward, 5 is neutral, 6 is forward, 2 is down, etc.). Normally this will send you well past your opponent so you can't followup, but in the corner you'll stay right on top of them instead so you can instant airdash M or H into a full combo if they don't block high. If they do block high you can go right into a low as you land, making it more difficult for them to continue blocking. 6M (forward medium) is a good option center screen to overhead (hit high while still on the ground). It doesn't actually get you a combo if it hits, but it does a bit of damage and may bait them into not blocking anymore. 6M can be chained into during a blockstring (a series of moves you preform after your opponent starts blocking where they have to continue blocking) after your 5M or 2M. As you get better you can actually combo off of 6M by calling an assist at the proper time to keep your opponent in hitstun long enough for your next move in the combo to come out. Some of the characters have other moves that can overhead and lead into combos.

In this game stagger pressure is a big thing. Lots of people wait for overheads to punch you out of or instant air dash to 2h you. Staggering safe normals is the easiest way to catch people when they get impatient.

Al Vinn what do you define as a safe normal?

This isn't related to meaties, but it is related to mashing. I'd like to add that, if you're blocking someone's autocombo string, it might be interruptable. Beerus and Blue Goku are especially susceptible to this since their strings' third hits are so slow. You can stuff Beerus' autocombo with a crouching Heavy!

The ground slide is not a hard knockdown. They can still delay their standup.

It annoys me how when the opponent attacks he is faster than the flash and when I try and attack I’m slower than a fucking snail even if we’re doing the same attack

Should teach the new players about over heads and how you can combo into them by calling in a assist and how to block mix up like for example trunks heavy has a large arc that can hit if even he jumps behind meaning he can get a easy combo of people. Another thing you can teach is setups for mix ups for example dragon rushing to knock about and force out another you can setup up a high/low situation. For example when they are about to land you can go for low hit and combo of it into a super or reset or you can do a over head heavy attack and do the same thing. This is really easy with trunks because of is sword heavy attack and not many players know how to block. Another thing they can do is just go for a grab and reset the player again or do a super. Most new players don't know how to block this mix up so it will be a great way to teach new players how to react and defend against this situation....P.S. do you play on PC?

This still doesn’t cover the biggest issue with this game which is stopping the opponents offense because this game has no defensive options no push block nothing Great video for offensive option though because this game is all offense
@Fatboyftw326 жыл бұрын
Actually there is a reflect option which works on most attacks, you can even defend against things like Kamehameha's and shit, but if you use it on a physical attack the opponent gets pushed back, I believe it's back and Ki blast? Don't quote me on that last part though.
@AugustBurnsRed1816 жыл бұрын
Fatboyftw32 everyone says that but the problem is that’s only in neutral you have to predict or react to something meaning you cannot do it while already in block stun to get the opponent off of you like an injustice push block or flip out or marvel advancing guard

how do i do a meaty attack? like what button/buttons do i press? thanks im new to fighting games
@jmcrofts6 жыл бұрын
Any attack will work. The important thing is that you time it so that when the opponent recovers from being knocked down, your attack is on top of them
@madthrasher886 жыл бұрын
a meaty is basically placing active frames (frames were the game registers the damage) on an opponents wake up. moves with lots of active frames are good (vegetas assist for example)
@Donzaloon6 жыл бұрын
Any attack can be meaty. It's just the timing on wake up

Oooh so that's why I kept getting punished for doing a meaty. I'm used to SFV and to do a meaty you could use a heavy attack. I guess for this game I need to use lights or mediums.
@Zakaru996 жыл бұрын
If you're confident it will hit mediums are better starters than lights because they scale the combo damage way less. Lights are good if you think they'll block and you want time to set up an assist to cover your blockstring.
