S1: She's been groomed and he's a creep, and everyone who is "happy" with this is sick. But unfortunately, trying to dissuade someone about the person they love only serves to make them angry and cut you off. Sister is going to have to live with her mistake. Hope she grows up, wisens up, and realizes she deserves better one day. Considering he likes young girls, he may leave her before she leaves him once she "ages out."

My older sister married her teacher / soccer coach. She “ran into him” a month or two after graduating high school. They got married when she was 20 and he was 36. He was a control freak. My sister divorced him three years later. When they got married, I was in junior high and was worried about high school, because he would be my soccer coach. I was watching that second part of Tiger King where they talked about "Dr." Antle and how he's basically cultivated a cult of teenage girls and other vulnerable young people around him. I remember that this is literally what one of the moms did after her teenage daughter ran away with him... She knew that if she made too many problems for them, it would push her daughter further into that creep's arms, so she pretended like she supported the relationship until the daughter realized by herself that she was being taken advantage of. When that happened, she trusted her mother enough to go back to her and accept her help. It sounds backward, but I guess it was what worked...

Story 1: Many years ago a local high school history teacher married his wife. Now they CLAIM they weren't dating until she turned 18 and graduated. HOWEVER, the math doesn't hold. She turned 18 10 days before graduation. They were engaged a week after graduation. They got married a month after graduation. She had their first child 5 months after graduation. The baby weighed like 8 1/2 pounds. That teacher was so well known for dating students that it was a joke. One I didn't find funny when my 17 year old niece told me he was paying special attention to her, finding excuses to rub her back while he discussed a paper with her...etc. I went and had a little chat with him. I told him 1-My niece WILL get the grade she earns and 2-If he EVER puts his hands on HER or ANY of her friends I WILL deal with it in a manner he absolutely will not like. Then, for good measure, I had two close friends (one an attorney, one a local cop.....both sitting school board members) had a talk with him. My niece (and her friends) got the grades they earned and he never even spoke to them again. A few years later, the son of the school board president was hired to teach at the school (yes, he father hired him.) Within a few years, he was known for dating students. The year he came up for tenure (4th year here) it came out that he had gotten three students pregnant, was dating a third and SHE ended up pregnant. His wife was also pregnant. He had 5 babies with 5 different women in the span of like 3 months. He was granted tenure....it was a vote of 4-3. An anonymous tip to the state ended up with him being arrested. All of the girls were 17+ (legal age of consent here) the problem is that there is an exception clause in the law that states if the minor in question is in any way subject to a disparity of power with the major in question, then the legal age of consent is 19 or 12 months after the disparity in power has been removed. In everyday speak: If 22 year old boss at the local burger place sleeps a 17 year old, their goose is cooked. However if the 17 year old sleeps with another regular worker, not someone in a supervisor position, then they are good. In the case above, he was their teacher within that 12 month period....so he was hit with something like 500 counts of sexual battery against a child. BUT because the case was local, he got off with time served (about 10 days.) The state waited 6 months........and then pulled his teaching license and went after the school board for HIRING HIM BACK AND REINSTATING HIS TENURE.....again a 4-3 vote. The 4 that voted for him ended up losing their asses.....thankfully. Crap like this happens ALL THE TIME.......it's disgusting.

I often heard that significantly older people who date people in the 18-24 range are emotionally immature or creepy and didn't believe that to be the case until that relationship. With the first story, I feel like the most you can do in those situations is explain your concerns in detail to the sister, make it clear you love her and will be there for her if things ever go bad, and take a big step back in terms of involvement in her life. Questioning people who support the relationship is also not a bad idea. The sister is being abused, and at this stage she's so entrenched in the honeymoon phase that she probably isn't capable of seeing the red flags, but things will get bad and she will want out. Getting angry and cutting her off potentially cuts off an escape route for when she does come around, so I think it's important to establish that you support HER, but not her relationship

If I had my way: “Romeo and Juliet” laws are restricted to an age gap of 2 years. (16 and 18 fine, 17 and 19 fine. 16 and 21 fuck no.) The minimum age for marriage is 18 without exception. No parental consent, no judicial consent, no pregnancy exception, no Romeo and Juliet exception, nothing. Upon reaching 18, marriage is restricted to those within 3 years of age until the individual reaches 26 years of age, upon which they are free to marry any age of partner. Relationships with people who were formerly in a position of authority over the individual when they were underage are forbidden unless the couple can demonstrate at least 10 years of lack of contact between the two after the younger turning 18. Public school health classes would give extensive lessons on grooming, the potential dangers of excessive age gaps, the potential shortfalls of early marriage, the importance of social and financial independence from one’s partner, and domestic abuse throughout middle and high school. Yet people repeatedly tell me that this is all too radical and restrictive on personal freedom.

1st Story- Creepy and more than a little disgusting, but technically legal and completely out of your control. IMO you've said you piece and it's not working, so your choices come down to trying to agitate for some sort of official (possibly criminal) investigation and possibly alienating your sister, standing by to support her when the inevitable happens, or just washing your hands of the entire situation. Not a decision I'd want to be forced to make. I hope it all works out for the both of you.

An ex of mine would get an intense case of the giggles whenever she climaxed. It turned out that she had a neurological issue that, although not life threatening, she still had to get some treatment that spanned some months.

A high school mate married her dad's best friend. They waited until her 17 to h birthday to start dating so it was legal. Married when she was 25, he was 57. I don't know him, she was a nice girl in school. He also quit his job at the college she attended so she could and be wouldn't get fired. I get the creeps thinking about it

Story 1: I don’t care about the ages. May-December romances are common in my family with nothing sketchy going on. What DOES bother me is the fact that he was in a position of power over her so grooming is, indeed, a likelihood. And while she may believe everything is consensual, it likely wasn’t. It was likely a result of said grooming. I also didn’t like op’s comment about his sister becoming a housewife instead of someone significant. Op’s sister IS someone significant simply because she exists. Also, who says housewives aren’t significant? That statement was very insulting to many people
@littleblackpistol
@littleblackpistol 2 жыл бұрын
Housewives have no financial independence which means no independence at all. They are 100% reliant on the whims of the husband for their future. If you never work a paying job of any kind, you have absolutely nothing to offer employers later in life if at some point you do need or want to get a job and will end up doing some minimum wage, low status gig and earn peanuts and you will find it harder to get even those jobs than people with an existing job history. If you are in an abusive relationship, it means you leave with nothing except the clothes on your back and end up in a shelter, penniless. You also have zero pension contributions and so on. It's not a clever way to go on these days. Especially when your husband fetishizes teens and will doubtless dump you for another teen if he can get his mitts on one, as you age into a grown woman. This girl will have stars in her eyes and then a truly brutal awakening as she lands on her own again penniless, with nothing but a high school graduation behind her to offer, while her peers will have ten years or college, jobs and have learned to navigate the world on their own terms instead of hiding behind a daddy figure who pays the bills while she vaccums the floor. You hand a man your financial independence, he better be a truly GOOD man, and this man in the story is the opposite of a good man. Good men don't groom teens they were in a position of power over. 36 year old men have nothing in common with 18-19 year olds and simply fetishize their immaturity and naiviety as it allows them to be more easily manipulated and impresseed by a total creep-loser type.

So...he started "paying extra attention" to her while she was his (underage) student? Yeah, this is grooming and he's a creep. He's going to leave her in a few years for another student, and she'll be stuck with no education and, probably, at least 1 child.

Had a cousin who was groomed (as far as I was concerned) and married an older guy (not a teacher but still…) when she wa 16 with her mothers’ permission! She wound up divorced with two kids when she was in her 20’s and he got custody because he had the better income! Of course he did! She was still young and relatively uneducated (except he did make her graduate high school)! The age difference wasn’t my problem (my husband is 8-1/2 years older than I am) but the fact that my cousin was a minor still when they met and married! The fact that her mother and the rest of the family thought that this was okay! My husband and I met when I was 21 and we met through mutual friends! (I have health problems and needed someone stable to support me! He had/has a great job with great benefits and takes good care of me!). Teachers who go after students are disgusting! I don’t care what their gender is either! (Women do it too!)

At least she has the OP's number and the phone OP gave her and knows she can call them if she ever needs to. The good thing is, if the sister needed a place to stay, the OP can take her in a lives away from where this all happened.

It's hard to realize how these relationships work. This is no different... Except I'm his age, 37... And my oldest is older than her sister (21). Fucking hell that's some sick shit. JFC. I would be freaking the fuck out of my mind if I were in OPs shoes. thank goodness because like op said, they at least need a foot in the door in case they need to swoop in and help. but man that sounds so HARD. I really don't trust any adult who just happens to date someone who just turned 18. even less when it's s teacher dating their students right after graduation. you can't tell me that there wasn't any grooming before the relationship became official. NONE OF THIS IS OK!!!

When I was in high school (dinosaurs roamed the Earth) my AP math teacher was married to one of her former students (also a math teacher). There must have been a good 15 years age difference between the two of them. It was moderately scandalous at the time, but they didn't go public with their relationship until well after he had graduated high school, so really nobody gave a crap. She was quite popular, he wasn't very well known to the students as he was a roaming substitute, but my take was that he was a slightly nervous, well-meaning, and gangly math nerd that made sure his classes stayed on schedule (I took a lot of math, so I got to see him regularly). All in all a really nice guy. Interestingly enough, the two of them owned a home that shared a fence corner with my sister's place in the back yard. So when my sister got a puppy my math teacher announced it to the whole class a couple days later and wanted to know the puppy's name.

Last story: When he first talked about not feeling their sex life for the most part I was thinking maybe he’s ace, but if he is actually she I’m glad gf is supportive & they’re figuring it out before they got married, because it would have been miserable for him? possibly both of them & they might have had a nasty divorce rather than parting as friends.

For the sex one: my partner and we have a very fulfilling sex life but haven’t actually has intercourse in months. I would suggest therapy but also want to emphasize that sex is not necessary to a healthy relationship. If anything this is the healthiest relationship I’ve had because my partner still feels fulfilled without needing to have sex with me. I have a hard time with sex because of a lovely combo of trauma, pain, and medication.

I was sort of friends with this girl in middle school, we were on the same softball team at our local park because her dad and uncles coached. When she was 18, not even out of high school, she got married to a man in his late 30s. More than double her age. She could have been his daughter. I’m still disgusted because I know she got pregnant before their marriage, meaning she slept with him possibly on the night of her birthday. It’s so fucking disgusting.
