I'm a retired RN. I worked mainly in OB and blood transfusions were necessary on occasions. Truly packets of life savers. I always thought of blood as the blessed life liquid. A very precious gift that can only come from someone who freely shares it with another often anonymously and always given with love. I am sure Jenny will come to see it that way. A lot of people are creeped out by getting blood, but most can get past that when it helps them in their treatments. Giving strength and support in a way no other medicine can.

I have donated over 65 units of blood… I began doing it after our son needed a couple of units following a major surgery. After 45 years of donating I suppose I had forgotten the true importance on a personal basis, and your video has reminded me of how important and PERSONAL this is! Thank you!

I don't know why, but I have never donated blood! I have AB positive, I'm sure they would love to have it. I'm not afraid of needles or donating at all. No excuse, and I'm a little ashamed. I just looked at blood donating sites, and next Tues at the church right next door I'll be there donating my blood!

Transfusions literally saved my life being diagnosed and treated for Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in 2021. I had at least 10 transfusions leading up to my diagnosis in 2021. Reading your comment and I had to respond. I had Whipple surgery for a GIST (gastrointestinal stromal tumor), not pancreatic cancer. I had many complications after and was placed in a coma. That surgery is a tough one! I hope you’re doing well and had a much better recovery than I did.

@@JudyDurfee My hat is off to anyone who has been through that dreadful procedure. While your recovery was clearly incredibly rough, I sure hope that your difficulties and complications are far behind you. I subsequently developed something called afferent limb syndrome, which is by no means a picnic. You don’t hear much about it, but it’s cruddy, and it took the doctors a long time to diagnose it. If you escaped that, that fact alone is worth celebrating. That’s one thing I learned through all of this, I learned to celebrate every victory almost without regard to its size. I don’t whoop it up just because I’m able to use my 25% off coupon at the check stand, but I’m sure you understand what I mean. (It may sound trite, but I’ve found real value in it.) I sincerely hope you have had and continue to have many reasons to celebrate.

The birth of my first baby was an emergency c-section where I hemorrhaged and almost died on the table. I am forever grateful for the person whose blood donation allowed me to be here to raise my baby! Their donation also made it possible for the doctors to save my uterus so that I can have future children.

My 22 year old daughter gave her first blood donation last week here in Ireland. It came out very quickly and she felt a little faint abd it started bleeding a bit after. She said she didnt think she'd donate again. 2 days later she got a text to say someone had received it and it made her feel so good ... she definitely wants to give again. Think of it not as blood but as 'liquid love' ❤. Her blood group is B positive ... so lets B positive today 😊

Hints for your daughter for next time, have a good meal before donating and be very hydrated. Afterward, be sure to sit for five minutes or so before getting up, and drink some water or juice. Here in the US they give us a cookie or something afterward too. The site won't bleed if there's pressure on it and hold over your head for a few minutes after the needle is withdrawn. Good for her for giving blood!

@@VintageFLA Yes she was hydrated with salty water and rested after. What actually caused the bleed was her opening the bag of crisps they gave her and she took the pressure off 😁. I miss giving blood but can't because I'm on thyroid medication. Thanks for the tips.

She should pressure the site of puncture for like 5min after they remove the needle from her hand. And drink a fruit juice at the area where she did the donation(while staying at that site for at least 10min before leaving). She could also probably ask the phlebotomist to check whether her puncture site appears good to go before she leaves. I think common reasons for bleeding after a donation are to tightly squeeze your elbow(as if you are trying to play arm wrestling on a table) or when donors remove the cotton and plaster within less than a few hours of exiting the site of blood donation. I have a had a few patients rip the bandage off before leaving at the site and that has caused a few bleeds. I am not an expert, I just worked at a blood bank unit for my training for 40h at a local hospital in Lebanon.

what you may be doing may be seriously dangerous to patients who recieve your donation. You shouldn't be allowed to donate. It's against international standards to donate after receiving a blood donation.

​@@jeanlewis7379I think you can still give blood more than a year past recevining a blood transfusion if you haven't received it in Europe around 1976 to 1980(time of discovery that CJD is being transmitted via blood donation as it originated from eating cows that have eaten the brain of other cows)... I don't remember the exact details. But, you can search up what I have said.

During my C-section I lost a little over 2 liters of blood and I almost didn't make it. I had to get 5 blood transfusions and that still wasn't enough. It scared me so bad. It's a beautiful gift because without the donation of others I wouldn't be here raising my son.

Two years ago, I received blood transfusions following a colonoscopy during which a large polyp was removed and I hemorrhaged. I remain massively, extremely grateful to those who donated and to all of the advances in medicine that made my survival possible. The transfusions made me feel so much better! The same thing happened to me 20 years ago when I had a large precancerous polyp removed. You are the only other person I’ve heard this happening to also. It was very scary, the bleeding occurred the day after the colonoscopy and I ended up in the icu. I received about 5 or 6 units of blood, so very thankful for donors and it did make me feel better. Praying for you Jenny, hang in there.

@@kathleenjbazan5563, you are the only other person that I know this has happened to, as well. It was extremely frightening, wasn’t it?! Mine occurred during the procedure. I began waking up to what I instantly knew was a life threatening situation. I could feel myself bleeding out. My nurse stayed with me, talking to me and reassuring me that the emergency surgeon was on his way and that I’d soon be in the OR. As wonderful as she was, I could tell she was very worried. I was in the hospital for a week following the surgery. The blood transfusions were hugely helpful in bringing my H & H numbers up and helped make me feel so much better. When the Dr. came in and told me that the biopsy indicated dysplastic but not cancerous cells, I burst into grateful tears. I told him that I knew I had been given a second chance. You and I have walked very similar paths, Kathleen. I’m sorry this happened to you, but I’m glad to know you.

I had blood transfusions back in 1982 before the testing of HIV virus. After a fews years of HIV testing knew I was clear. Also donated platelets for many years until my health caused me to be placed on medications that disqualified me from being a donor. Receiving a blood transfusion is a living gift. Nothing to be afraid of. Remember someone took time out of their busy schedule to provide you this precious gift.

Every three weeks I get IGG, which is immune cells from people’s blood. This is because my cancer treatment hurt my immune system. If it wasn’t for this continued transfusion, I wouldn’t be here so am so grateful for those who donate. It was a little weird at first, but now every infusion I am just so very grateful.

Also I just wanted to let you know, that I have beaten CA 3x now. I had pancreatitis at one point and ended up almost dying on the med team twice before and after surgery. You’ll feel better a day or two after the transfusion but not right away. Hang in there. Your doing great! And your so lucky to have ALL the support that you have especially from your hubby and sister. Keep fighting! Don’t give up, don’t give in, strive to win!! Beat this Jenny!

Did you mean cancer with «CA»? Not easy with all those abbreviations… If that is what you meant; Great you’ve been able to be treated with success! Hope you’ll stay in remission from now on! I got pancreatitis due to medications twice too, and was horribly sick. The doc said afterwards that I came pretty close too. My lipase levels were through the roof… I don’t know what you mean by surgery, but I had an ERCP where they cut up my gall ducts to make more space, hoping that it would solve the problem, but I have had some chronic problems ever since, so I am on enzymes. I look a bit like a hamster, because it makes my salivary glands swell up a lot, LOL… I really hope Jenny will get better, for her, her hubby, children and the rest of her fam and friends! She really does great, always seems so positive, which is such a great help when seriously ill - it really makes a difference during the journey, if I can put it that way!!! But, I don’t think her illness is a battle where it is a matter of winning or beating it. That would mean that those that can’t get over it, would be losers, which they really aren’t. Their disease just were of the kind that couldn’t be knocked down, removed or cured. Often coincidences or pieces of the puzzle that just didn’t fit well enough, if you get my drift. So many factors play a role and there’s still so much science still do not understand. So sometimes being cured isn’t in the cards. I never thought of this myself before a Norwegian woman, a fitness star called Marthe Sundby, who had terminal liver cancer went to national media with her dying wish: That people would stop using this terminology. That people would stop saying things like «She lost her battle against cancer». She said: «I have battled and fought in fitness, skating, body building and weight lifting. This disease has so many unknown factors that it is totally impossible to fight [against it].» Marte was amongst others supported by her doctor at the palliative ward she was at at the time of one of her interviews. She said that when this kind of terminology is used, some patients feel that they are not good enough, they are not fighting well enough, and she said that for that reason, they always try to avoid using such terminology. The National Cancer Association said pretty much the same. And I just think it makes a lot of sense, I really do! Marte was hoping for a liver transplant, but unfortunately her cancer was too widely spread for it to be an option. Her type of liver cancer also was a difficult and very serious one. When Marte died 12. September 2017, it was 10 years since she had her first cancer surgery. She passed away 6 weeks after that interview. RIP Marte Sundby❣️ ❤️💓❤️💓❤️ Sorry for this super long digression, hope you think it makes sense though… Take care! 💓💓💓🤗

I am also a Stage 4 Lung Cancer patient and have had two transfusions while on chemo. They were given to me several months apart, but I think they can be given more frequently than that. The transfusions did increase my energy levels, but not instantly. A week or so after the transfusion is when I began to notice an increase in wellness and ability for more increased activity. I know it's easy to say, " hang in there," but truly " hang in there."

Hi. I was diagnosed with an osteo sarcoma at 45. I had 6 weeks in hospital having chemo/radiotherapy. 6 months later I had the tumour removed. Over the next few years I had metatastic lung cancer. Two separate ops, to remove it. (I know that pain you refer to) I’m now 5 1/2 years all clear. Watching your story has given me the realisation on how cruel cancer is. God bless you. You cannot be clone. It has Adams extra rib. … and I could donate blood to everyone on earth, but I cannot take any other blood and there’s not very many I think 32 people on earth.

I needed 2 units of blood after my second C-section. Before the 1st unit I could barely speak and my lips were pale. After the 1st unit I could speak but it was still hard to sit up. By the time the 2nd unit was done I was up and had something to eat and they brought in my baby girl. So grateful to the angels who donate blood. Prayers and love to you.

My daughter got diagnosed with ulcerative colitis at 13 and was in really bad condition. Besides a couple of week long hospital stays, she had to have many infusions at the children's cancer center every few weeks...These included Remicade for a while, Entyvio, Humira and also a couple blood transfusions. She felt really good after the blood transfusions! ( more oxygenated blood, more energy). She's 16 now, and still takes a Stellar shot in her leg every 4 weeks, and has still been on Methotrexate for 2 years now...but is in remission and doing great!

I think I’ve had maybe 50+ blood transfusions throughout my cancer journey (GIST Cancer)… almost routine and expected at this point. The first 1 can definitely be anxiety inducing … once you get the first one done, the rest are smooth sailing

I feel you. Got my leukemia diagnosis in April and I have had upwards of 40 blood transfusions so far. The first time is a little scary, because you never know how you will react to the transfusion, but man do you feel a lot better afterwards. It can make all the difference in the world after a transfusion.

Hey Jenny- I "bottomed out" right before my 4th chemo. Couldn't stand up for 5 days at home (I lived alone). When I called Dr, they made me go to ER where I was told my blood count was 1. They started talking about transfusions but somehow I narrowly escaped getting them. Got admitted though. Sometimes they're needed to help body recover from damage done by chemo. I think you need them until your body gets enough strength to start healing itself so that therapy is only temporary. I bet you'll feel SO much better any day now! Keeping you all in my prayers. Keep going! You're doing a great job! I loved when I heard your sister yell "you'll be fine!" Encouragement like that is priceless! Much love! ❤

I received 2 transfusions after my 2nd child was born in 1974. I'm B negative, and they drove it down from Jacksonville since there was none in my area. Many friends and family went and donated in my name. I have also donated over the years to pay it forward. I had reactions during my transfusions. I was sneezing, and I got hives and finished with a cough. It was a strange sensation, but it saved my life, and I'm very grateful.

I was a totally healthy 34 year old in 2001 when I had my third baby. ( I had b\g twins in 1996) After I had my third baby I developed Severe Aplastic Anemia which is bone marrow failure autoimmune disorder. My bone stopped making rbc, wbc, and platelets. I am an RN. I had never received a blood transfusion but due to Aplastic Anemia developing after my baby birth, I am blood transfusion dependent to this day. (22 years) I have had to get 2 units of blood basically for 22 years every 3-4 weeks and more when I get a cold or flu sick. Thank you to all who donate blood. I got to be a mother to my 3 kids and be a part of their lives and because of you I am FOREVER grateful. Please continue to be blood donors. They saved my life and allowed my 3 children to grow up having a mom. Bone marrow failure patients are grateful. I agree with others, Jenny is going through so much. It’s not always easy to stay in a grateful place when you are daily battling for your life. It’s exhausting and very scary, you have no control, everyday you are being told what to do, you have no privacy, people’s just walk in and out of your room at their whim, not to mention all of the medications that have side effects that makes you not feel like yourself. ❤️🩸🙏🏻

Kyle was singing Sade's "Smooth Operator", and very well, too! Yes I think the pain meds dull the areas of pain into a like " ghost pain" state, where you know exactly where they are but the pain receptors are dulled out enough to be bearable. And that's how it should be since you have had such a extraordinarily awful time with this procedure, painwise. They've found a way to do it that you can tolerate and that's so great. And now Kyle's going to be taking over. How incredible! So happy you got to see your babies! Good endorphins will help you get better sooner, Jenny. 🌟🌻💖😸

I've experienced periods of iron deficiency anemia on and off for decades and had a blood transfusion about 20 years ago because I was severely anemic. Since then I've reached the gallon+ club by donating during those times my hemoglobin has been at normal levels. It's such a small miraculous gift someone can provide to another and I hope this gift restores some of your energy supply as you continue on this journey.
