Welcome to Brooklyn, one thing I will say is that living in the outer boroughs is a bit more peaceful and relaxing. Also the community is nicer and it’s better to support smaller businesses around Brooklyn and Queens.

I like wall tapestries and there might be some great ones from Mexico or other parts of Central and Latin America. I brought two back after work trips from Ecuador and Peru and I bought rugs in the Middle East, smaller ones, not the Persian ones that sell for $50K! Congrats on your move. I lived in Park Slope for 6 years and it is a great choice for younger folks, families and children alike. Plus the Park and the Botanical Gardens, along with the Brooklyn Museum is hard to beat!

Your minimalistic lifestyle is amazing. I lived in Park Slope from 1998-2000 and paid $2,500 for a third floor walkup and it was no where near as nice as your apt. I'm quite shocked, actually that you can get all that nowadays for the same price.

I left NY 15 years ago, because the rent and mortgages, were insane. I have been a homeowner for 14 years now, in the North VA area, 25 minutes from DC. My mortgage is way under $2Gs. Best of luck to you both! I love NY, but it’s just ridiculous now.

In our first apartment, we also couldn't get the sofa in, so we lived with 2 love seats for ages. Once we bought a house, my husband decided it was time for 2 couches instead. I love the kitchen and the ceilings! Decorate with more of Adriana's art, of course - and a sheet of plywood covered with batting and fabric makes a good and inexpensive headboard.

Sucks that native Brooklyn residents are being forced to pay higher rents and if they can't, they're pushed out. If people rejected these exorbitant prices, we'd all be able to live more comfortably. Rents and all other expenses increase, while incomes don't. Unless you're wealthy, you're unable to afford high rents. Sadly, $2,500 for the amount of space you have is actually a steal. Most people don't get so lucky. You certainly are one of the fortunate ones and that's not to take away from your hardwork, because I'm sure you'd say you worked hard for your good fortune.
