Very nice collection Jim! I still need to get U-571 and The Great Escape. My dad let me watch Hamburger Hill and Full Metal Jacket both in the same night when I was a kid. Lone Survivor was very surprising and didn't expect it to be that good.

The Big Red One is so good. I definitely watched The Bridge on the River Kwai with my dad too - probably The Great Escape also. I saw Das Boot in the theater when they rereleased it with extra footage. You actually felt like you were in a submarine by the end of the film. Great list Jim!

Thanks Dan! What is it about war films that we saw with our dads that makes them so special?🤔👍

Definitely agree with Saving Private Ryan as #1 with Inglourious Basterds coming in at a close second for me. Great list!
@jimtatro65503 ай бұрын
I was going to include Inglorious Basterds but I decided to keep the list to “conventional” war films. Thanks for watching and commenting.👍

Jim,some guys like Westerns, some guys like Gangster movies,but I always prefer War movies,because it so succinctly expresses "Mans inhumanity to Man"

You get so many points for including The Boys in Company C. I'm sorry that I can only give you one like. The rest of the selection are great also. A submarine film I liked even though it has supernatural element was " Below". Basically, a ghost story on a sub.

The Boys in Company C will always be a very special film to me, my late brother introduced me to it when I was a kid and I have loved it since. Thanks as always my friend.🙏

Defiance, Schindler's List, The Black Book, Fury, The Resistance Banker, Inglorious Bastards, Where Eagles Dare The Pianist, Sophie's Choice and there's a good few more I'll mention maybe 2morro as it's late here. Red Dawn, Born on the 4th of July, The Sand Pebbles, Empire of the Sun. Rescue Dawn, Resistance. Tears of the Sun, Downfall, Green Zone, Valkyrie, Enemy at the Gates,
@jimtatro65503 ай бұрын
There’s some great ones on that list, however, I did not consider red Dawn or Ing glorious bastards because those are fiction. Even though Inglourious Basterds is set during World War II, I consider it more of a fantasy.

If you don't have it yet.....then you need to get Band of Brothers on Bluray, additional mentions for Memphis Belle and Greyhound

I do not own any of them on physical media, but I have seen all of them and yes band of Brothers and its sister series. The Pacific are both phenomenal. Thank you so much for watching and commenting.👍

Buddy with "Greyhound" they were too extravagant with CGI, "less would have been more"

Fantastic top 20 Jim, I will keep a lookout for The boys from company C, i have seen it before but back in the VHS days, definitely a forgotten gem. I was not a fan of Dunkirk if i am honest, much prefer the original with John Mills. I do prefer the older films myself especially the British ones like Ice cold in Alex , Battle of the river plate etc. My two favourite war films though are Where Eagles dare and the Eagle has landed, Thanks again for your top 20.
