My $20 Thrift Store Onkyo TX-8211 Receiver

A great value in stereo receivers, this Onkyo TX-8211 gets taken through the paces, and demonstrated. It sound great!

I remember that Onkyo. Was a great entry level stereo unit back in the day. Lots of headroom. Only 50 watts but it can deliver a lot MORE than that PEAK. Very nice sounding. IMHO these Onkyos are warmer than current iterations. To bad they don't make this model anymore. $20 a steal! I use an old refugee from a Technics '80s rack system and its matching tuner as my daily driver, $10 and $5 respectively at a Goodwill years ago. 90 watts x 2 @ 8 ohms. But very powerful as well. The so-called New Class A units, paired to some Boston Acoustics A100s (10" two way acoustic suspension floorstander) it fills my basement rec-room with music! I have an Onkyo TXSR-805 as my Home Theater receiver-it is a beast. 51 lbs. 130 watts x 7 @ 8 ohms. 130 watts x 5 RMS rating. It can actually deliver 130 continuous watts to five channels and does amazing work in Dolby surround. The transformer alone weighs more than most AVRs these days? Enjoy!

Must be nice to live in an area with thrift stores, lol. The closest thing we have to one in the whole county are antique/flea market type places that always seem to want more for something than it sold for when it was brand new. I bought an Onkyo TX-8220 about 6 months ago on Amazon.

I frequent the stores often. And can go weeks, or months, empty handed. But every so often, I do score big.

Great find! I have a TX-8511 (very similar to yours, I think, but 100 watts a channel) that I bought new in the 1990s. I still use it daily. Those are terrific receivers.

Nice! I bought mine at a thrift store too for around the same price, $25 bucks I think, few years back jus b4 covid lockdown and I'm glad I did. It helped ease the stress during covid. Lol I set it up with a pair of Martin Logan Motion 10 tower speakers and a Martin Logan Dynamo 600x. Good sound!

With this receiver, I use Infinity RS-425’s.
