On August 21, 2019 I closed on a fixer-upper from the Detroit Lank Bank Authority for approximately $2000. The house was built in 1941 in the Brightmore area of Detroit and has been vacant for years. It’s a 703 sq. ft. bungalow with 3 bedrooms and 1 bathroom.

Good for you! Both of my children bought extremely cheap houses when they turned 18. Houses that should have been demolished. Both of them now own completely brand new remodeled houses with no house payments! Be proud of what you've done

Viaja Y Estudia by Lina Garzon Hey, so there are winter and summer taxes. I purchased my house in the summer, so I expected to pay winter taxes. To my surprise, I was told I didn’t have to pay for the winter, but I’ll have to pay summer taxes. I don’t know the rule on this, but for me as it turns out, I am tax free for one year. My zip code is 48223.

Just purchased the guide! I have a question though. What made you buy from a Detroit land bank and not the land banks down in Atlanta? I know you mentioned you were from Detroit but with Atlanta’s land banks you’re right there. Is it because it’s easier in Detroit?

The process is easier, the website is more user friendly, and the houses are more affordable in Detroit. Another reason is that I have more resources to get the work done in Detroit.

Tamarra Lm Sure you can! I always hear about foreign investors. I’d start by ensuring your finances are in order whether that be personal or from a loan. I’d then think about the size home you want and the area you want it in. After that, look on the website often to find what you want. Those two steps alone could take some time.

keshuan5 Not that I’m aware of. On the website there is a section titled “Programs” and then “Community Partners” where you can search under your district to see who’s all listed. You may see church’s, programs, and other businesses along with their contact information. However, I reached out to several establishments under my district (District 1) but didn’t receive any help.
