My 2017 Audi S3 Broken Shift Knob Gets Replaced A3 S3 RS3 Q5

last week I took a road trip to Yellowstone and I put 2300 miles on mine in 5 days. It's got 5048 miles on it. No issues except im still hearing the knocking noise whenever I drive on bumpy roads. The dealership couldn't verify it. Thanks for sharing this video.

The exact thing happened to my 2017 S3 about a month ago. Just found the ring split and hanging out of the shifter. Took it in for 10k, shifter ring, and sub rattle. Picking it up from the dealership​ tomorrow. They said it's all fixed... fingers crossed.

The shifter ring seems to be a very common issue. What do you mean by sub rattle? Do you have a dedicated subwoofer in the trunk cause I don't have one.

ThatBlueS3 I had a rattle from the small factory subwoofer in the rear deck (behind the rear passenger side headrest). Basically, it rattled with even light bass at low volume. It is a known issue with base and B&O systems. I'm very disappointed with some of the changes Audi made to the MMI from 2016 to 2017. My 2015 A3's base system sounded better than my S3's. That is mainly due to the missing subwoofer control in my 2017's MMI. Does your B&O have it?

I get a high pitched buzz from that same area, but it seems to be caused by the exhaust note because it only happens at certain rpms with the radio off.

Picked up the car and the fixed the rattling speaker per a TSB. Put in a new shifter and all is good. Now, hopefully Audi will fix the missing sub control via an MMI update.

considering that this repair entails the dealer working on your car which is a crap shoot at best, and the entire removal and replacement of the shifter mechanism, has anyone contemplated or made an attempt to just crazy glue the ring back together yourself if possible, and call it a day ???

+Rosario I’m sure that you could glue it back on. I figured it’s covered under warranty so I’d have Audi take care of it. I’m pretty happy with my service department and have built a pretty good relationship with my service advisor. Usually spend some time in there just chatting about Audi’s.

Hi, had the same red ring split in half on my 2015 S3... unfortunately the dealer would not cover under warranty...so I went with the glued option which turned out perfect. Btw TBS3, i love your content and your good videos helped me choose the Navarra blue paint for my next car... SQ5 coming shortly. Keep up the good work!
