I did this today and unclipped the leather boot only There was no need to take off the larger console piece. I used the original leather boot as the one from China had a different design.

It looked a bit stiff afterwards. Was it okay? Did it move as smoothly as the previous. And would a hairdryer be okay or do you suggest a heat gun? I take it the heat gun should be pointed at the lower part of the plastic where it sits in the metal part?

What exactly are you using the heating for? Are you melting the plastic so you reform it to a 90 degree twist ? Or is there some kinda glue your releasing it from and just reseating it in position ? Why do you need to apply the heat ?

RB .....it looks harder than it really is trust me do it just like the video says just be careful with how close you hold your heat gun an turn slow.....i used a hair dryer once i got it where i wanted it to cool the plastic faster

Seems to be a pretty risky proposition just to have a round knob and a pretty mickey mouse way of doing it (heating that plastic rod and bending it can't be good for it weakening it) if it breaks you're screwed. Do it right or don't do it at all. I was wondering why some of these had different shift knobs and after research I found this how to video. Not worth it IMO

I have an Mk6 Jetta trying to put in an RS6 shift knob in it and I’ve replaced the shift box before with a used one off eBay, so I’m wondering if these shift boxes in your video or the ones in the Mk5 Jetta will fit in the Mk6 Jetta

Lmfao how is it a wannabe, my s3 came with this knob stock and I know some other ones come with that rectangular one, not every round shift knob indicates manual dumbass
