I've nearly gotten down to half my weight from a few years ago (392) and i'm at 206.6 right now. I want to hit 200, get to 196 which is half my highest, and I also want to build enough endurance to hike 20, 25, 30, etc miles in a day. The most i've hiked in a day last year was 17. I'm also getting into a bit of jogging too, so a 5K is in the works at some point. Thanks for the inspiration! I really hope your anxiety gets better throughout this year because I battle with it too and it's definitely easy to let that take hold of you. Keep up the great work, dude.

2018 goals: turn 50 ✔. Join TGR patreon ✔. Conquer my fear of tunnels and heights and run Jack & Jill Marathon (Snoqualmie Pass) involving both! Marathon PR. Run first ultra- Squamish 50k (inspired by Ethan & Gary). Embrace the fear. Manage the anxiety. No beer for 364 days (except on 8/18 after 50k). Thank you GR for the inspiration, honesty, documentation, and amazing work!

I’m not a big resolution guy, but I like goals. This year I’m going up Mount Erie once a week, abandoning my phone when in the presence of my sons and shaving time off my mile. I made my first running video a week ago, and the work it took astonished me. I don’t know how you kids do it. You’re a media juggernaut. Thanks so much. Hope to see you at C-nut. Peace.

The ginger is back! I’m a washed up college athlete who recently fell in love with running. My 2018 goals are 1/2 Marathon sub 1:50, full marathon sub 3:50, and survive a 50k. Oh yeah, and document every single work out on my channel! Good luck to everyone else this year with goals!

My goals = Run my first half: Done. Run my first marathon: September? Most importantly: finish my OMEDFOY (one mile every day for one year) run challenge: August. I'm 165 days into the challenge and haven't missed a day yet. Considering I'm over 40yrs old and just started running last year, I'm pretty happy with my 300+ miles I've logged since August. BEST year yet! Thank you so much for your guidance, tips, tricks, and general "attitude" towards the sport.

To dovetail on that comment, the race video's that you did in the early days of GR are what attracted me to the channel, but also video's like this of getting to see amazing terrain I will probably never get a chance to run on. I hope you get the chance to share more of the beautiful trails of the Pacific Northwest with all of us.

2018 goals: 1. Brave the cold and get back into running regularly, been slacking during the winter too much and it's starting to show ;) 2. Run a full marathon in September. Ran a half in November 17, and I absolutely loved it. 3. Gain control of my back and core workouts, been dealing with some pain from sitting/slouching. It's bad. I'm only 20 so I feel it's way too early to deal with back pain. Ugh. 4. Move to the capital and start university. 5. Travel to another continent (looks like the Peruvian Amazon will be my destination!). Good luck everyone and thanks for the awesome content Ethan.

As someone that has struggled with quitting smoking for the past few years and have always enjoyed running my goals are to first off to not pick up the habit again (currently 3 weeks cold turkey). Second, run a full marathon (last time I attempted to quit I ran a half), and third I want to run my first ultra of at least a 50k.
@beeclimbing99546 жыл бұрын
For what it's worth, I quit smoking many years ago (after 15 yrs of smoking) and the 3 things that helped me (and like all smokers, I'd had previous attempts) was: 1. don't count; you are officially a non-smoker, counting is just counting until you can reward yourself with a cigarette 2. Run, run a lot - you'll feel the lack of in take in your lungs at first and be horrified and as you clean out all that tar, it will be hard to resume (or stand the smell as your sinuses clear) 3. Alan Carr (a how to quit guru) stated "if you were truly addicted, like a junkie, you'd awake in the night needing a fix" and yet smokers don't, it's a mental thing, not a physical addiction. Hope this helps and best wishes for staying a non-smoker!

The "care less, create more" is a goal we can all benefit from, I think. For me, goes hand-in-hand with disconnecting; the less I deal with social media, the easier it is to not care. My goals for the year: this year marks my foray into Ultras! So a few running goals: road marathon in March, Lake Superior 50k in May, and finally an undetermined 50mi or 100k late in the season. For school: striving for a 4.0 this semester, as well as prepping for field data collection over summer and analysis in the fall. Personally, I want to improve my mental health some more, find a nice girl, and spend more time with my pup (who I feel is far too often cooped up in my house). That's all I got! Good luck to everybody on their goals and we'll see how we all turn out this year

Hi Ethan, your upload reminds me I've been meaning to thank you. I had my first running event recently where it got so tough I was worried I couldn't push through (screaming calves). I was able to because I opened Spotify, got The Ginger Runner going (had just found out you compose all your music), and set off. Your music is perfect for running, and is a perfect background for gutting it out. Listening to it made me feel like I was in a doco! : ) So yes, please, release a new album. Also, I love the focus on individual athletes idea.

First, after I started runing one year ago last year I accompished most of my goals ,such as complete a virtual challege to run 1017km, I ran my first 10 miler race, I became a TGR patreon. One of the best things about last year was, I met more awesome people in the running community, I became member of my local running club and I went to DC to watch WDGTD. One I learned about runningis first set your goals but always listen to your body (avaoid injuries is the most important) so then this year I want to run more than 1000 miles, run my first half marathon, run more trails and I want to met more people. Have great 2018 tot everybody.

Our biggest goal spanning the last several years was to also move to the great PNW, and in late December that finally became a reality. Olympia fits us PERFECTLY. My top 2018 goal is to run a 50-miler, and I’ve signed up for the Fat Dog 50 in August. With that comes our other main priority, to explore the rainforests and mountains that are now home.

So inspiring! I still remember the sunset video (both metaphorically and literally ) from 2017 in LA - this one was even better! I have some big and exciting changes in the family this year - so running might not be the main focus for me. At the same time - I know how much I enjoy it - and my goal is to keep at it no matter what! :) I have a half marathon and an 30k trail run on the calendar, hoping to improve my times there. Taking inspiration from you, I think my last goal is to run longer than I have before, but outside of a race. Maybe a 50k ? Cheers and happy new year from Oslo, Norway

1). Invent time machine to go back to discover this channel way before a month ago. I've missed so much. I swear, you are my spirit animal GR. 2). Stay healthy by training smarter- run with a plan. IT band issues and running without a plan wasn't good. This includes stretching properly before and after runs. 3). strength train and cross train regularly. I joined a gym late last year with a pool and have already put time in there. Being motivated to do some exercises at home is the hard part. 4). Do a cool destination race. Probably trail. Somewhere that I have stay in a hotel the weekend of. 5). complete sanctioned 26.2 probably in the fall. 6). Complete trail 50k prob in winter 7). Sub 20min 5k time. 21:00 is PR, so not far to go. 8). Hit the trails more. I have severe snake anxiety that won't let me go in the woods in the warm months. That's most of the year down here in the south. I don't know if I can shake it, but I need more terrain variety. 9). [because 1st goal was fake] Figure out what the hell I'm doing with my career. Been at a job for 11yrs and in a good place, but I want something different. From one GR to another, keep up the amazing content.

Aw, man. This has made me really want to start looking at my 2018 goals. I had stopped doing goals posts a few years ago, and I really think that I need to set a few for myself because of finally coming back from injury and anxiety, like you mentioned. I think for me, I am looking at training for races and keeping safety at the forefront. I tend to push too hard and not care for myself, looking solely at numbers. I am gonna try to slow down and enjoy running instead of worrying about distance or pace. I'm going to be slow, I know that, especially since injury and anxiety made me put on the pounds. And honestly, I want to be happy. I've read a lot that happiness is as much a skill as an emotion, and I want to practice it as a skill and be mindful of where I am and grateful I can be there. Thanks for this, man. I really appreciate the kickstart. :)

I haven´t really put into perspective how I want the year 2018 to be but few things come to my mind: - Be the best dad I can be (last year we got twin girls) - Keep it up with my runs (4 times a week) - Able to race once a month (if my wife is ok with that, hehe) - Find new career opportunities - Shoot more with my DSLR (I just started a 365 project, posting in Instagram @jisampedro) - Do this year GRVR (I failed to join the past 2 years) I think for now is good. Let´s see how the year goes. Thanks Ginger runner for your videos and adventures to come.

Happy New Year! Great, great video and goals! My goals: Stay healthy I'm registered for Boston and Chicago marathons -- 10 minutes better than BQ time for Boston; age group (groan I'm old :) ) PB for Chicago are my targets right after simply enjoying my American Tour 2018 :) Non running goals: Complete some new fiction and poetry and seek publication after a several years drought. Return to wilderness respites either in my canoe or with a backpack in the mountains; again been YEARS since doing either. Likely that goal should be altered to be making a move back to Alberta or to BC. AND planning on pulling all social media from all devices but computer on desk to disconnect! Thanks.. I love your goals... My goals is doing more races this year, in 7 days the half marathon in Miami, since my last marathon 9 years ago, and then ill do a whole this year as a new Vegan..so that is something new for me.. I do appreciate your videos cause we don't have beautiful trails like you guys do up north.. yes, disconnecting is good cause it can be a distractor of living in the now..

I have my sights set on doing a park run before the end of the year and want to join a running club but my social anxiety prevents me from doing it. I've recently joined a gym and hopefully it can be a catalyst for that. Also would like to mention that listening to your memoirs is as good or better than watching you being chased through pine woods by a bear while dodging snake pits!

I'd love to see a "Behind the Run" series on race directors! Renee and Todd of GoBeyond Racing these two are always smiling and such a huge part of the trail running scene in Portland, OR, Jeremy Long of Daybreak racing is a huge inspiration to me personally and has such a quiet strength - also a huge part of the Portland running scene, Krissy Moehl (Chuckanut 50k), Candice Burt of Destination Trail races seems like an incredibly interesting person and she puts together some monster events. Or maybe spotlight some local groups/company founders like Brett and Jordan from Territory Run Co. or the Wy'East Sisterhood. So many talented and extremely positive people in the northwest running community...

NIce one! I'm so happy I have made running a part of my life the past two years, and TGR has been a part of the process! Great fun, and inspiring! I also love New Years Resolutions - mine have been about writing. But I have a running goal too: I've got my eyes on two 30k trail races near Oslo this summer. If I do them, they would be my first trail races and my first race over 10k. Maybe trail marathon or a 50k in 2019?

Thanks Ginger. Always love your vids. Going from being able to run a 5 k while ago to just few minutes winded. Towards end of year running 26km trail race. First trail excited but also scary. Also want to be a better version of me. Be less depressed. Love those around me more. Oh sorry... getting off topic.

I have had modest goals the last two years of running 300 miles(2016 accomplished) and 150 workouts(2017 failed but did make it to 300 miles again with longer runs) So since I have such a hard time getting in consistent running time in my life I decided to make my goal for 2018 to run a Marathon. I have taken the first step towards that goal by signing up for the Dallas Marathon in December. Now just to figure out how to do it. I feel stronger running wise than ever. But this is based on runs done on the lunch hour at work. Which is usually 3-5 miles. So I have to find a way to get more runs in and a way to get buy in by my wife to go on long runs on the weekend so I can build up. I want to complete the Marathon in under fours hours. I know I can do this if I can just keep running. I don't know how much endurance I can build up at fifty years old but I am going to try. Wish me luck!

You're my fav!!!! My goals: run my first 50k (a race or just the distance), run GRVR (wanted to the last 2 years but had an injury both times), not eating any food from work (they have such junk all over this place) and never miss GRL ever...even if it's near my bed time....:)))

Nice job with your goals Ethan. For me, I want to work on speed and see where I can get to 5K wise. I also have a goal of doing my first ultra. I'm a disabled vet and I have to get it out of my head that I "can't" do something. At least try it, and see how my body holds up. If I DNF, at least I'll know for sure. Finally, I have a goal to keep a positive mental state. I struggle a bit with depression and have a difficult time climbing my way out of the rabbit hole. Keep up the awesome videos. I do appreciate them.

My Main Goal is Lake Placid 70.3 Half Ironman! This will be my first half ironman. Aside from that it is staying healthy and consistent with my training/ nutrition. Also another goal for 2018 is to read more books. In the past I never really found the time to be able to read, but now am noticing that I am able to disconnect and unplug for a bit when I read, so I am going to do it more!

Very nice Ethan, you got me excited about the new year! OK, my goals are simple, stay healthy and motivated. Lose some weight and run my first 50k. (I turn 70 next month) Gonna try to find someone in my age group to run with once a week to help me stay accountable.
