I’m 47 and bought myself one of these. I live in England in a coastal town and it’s the perfect bike for that. It’s not cheap but I’m planning on keeping the little fella for many years. I won’t be doing a lot of mileage, it’s just a fun little bike to cruise around town on when I feel like it. I’ll keep it well maintained and I know it’ll still be going strong years from now. I’m happy paying a premium for that. Each to their own I guess. It’s a fantastic little bike.

Thank you for your great video Sir!!! I bought the Monkey in black here in Germany and I love it so much. I took it for a ride and it could not only keep up but was even faster in terms of its acceleration and pretty much as fast in terms of top speed as my friends KTM RC 125 (15 hp at 148 kg) and the Honda CB 125 R (13,3 hp at 122 kg) without any mods. It made 122 km/h on a straight line with ease and no I had no wind coming from my back. The acceleration is phenomenal maybe caused by its light weight as well. I am not a skinny guy too (114 kg). It is such a joy to ride this little jewel by Honda. I LOVE MY MONKEY!!!

Once some aftermarket parts start becoming available for this new model, keep your eye out for a stainless steel braided brake line for your rear brake. It might not cure the weak rear braking completely, but it should facilitate some improvement.

I had a 1976 Honda XR 75, Just great kick ass summer days, riding with great friends back in the 70's in New Hampshire. I'm rather dubious of people who say they don't need ABS brakes. You are never going to be more efficient than an ABS system regardless of experience. Riders get tired or distracted, road conditions can be poor due to weather. Also, you admit that your roads are full of terrible drivers that don't see riders. You talk about how the front end can wash out under heavy braking. ABS is always a better choice. A bit late for yourself but I strongly recommend everyone else gets the ABS model. I have a Monkey 125 with ABS by the way and the brakes are excellent.
@jimmyw75306 жыл бұрын
Fair enough, I looked at the rest of your channel and you are clearly a very clever bloke. Much smarter than me. I hope you make it another 40 at least. I'm just an ABS advocate. I've been riding for 9 years and I have lost one bike that could have been saved by an ABS system. Riding gear saved me. I was talked out of the ABS model by my brother. So I guess I just get carried away when people say they don't need it.
@dbx12336 жыл бұрын
Anti -lock?? Man I always special order my bikes without brakes. Their totally unnecessary and its just another way for dealers to pad their profits. Now if You'll excuse me I have some more trolling to do.

@Curtis Sherwood what a rediculous comment. No one here thinks or stated that ABS bikes are crash proof. Well done on stating the obvious that people need more training and experience btw. It took me 10 seconds to research crash statistics for countries where motorcycle ABS is mandatory. Crashes that resulted in fatalities dropped by 30 to 42 percent in the European countries listed. Statistics don't care about bravado, anecdotes or opinions. ABS brakes prevent accidents and saves lives.
@jimmyw75306 жыл бұрын
@Curtis Sherwood Do you wear a helmet when you ride?
@jimmyw75306 жыл бұрын
@Curtis Sherwood Excellent, but doesn't that contradict your last comment? Wearing a helmet mitagates the risk of hurting yourself in the event of an accident. Riding a motorcycle is still risky and exciting isn't it. ABS does nothing except under heavy braking, so it doesn't effect even spirited riding if you're doing it right. So it is just mitigating the risk in the event of tricky situations. I've owned bikes with and without ABS and I can confirm this is true.

Let me apologize in advance to be a buzz kill... I've seen people comment on the $4,000 price tag and suggestions on getting a bike. So, I'd like to inject my biased opinion on the subject matter. I only see niche motorbikes like Honda Monkey and motor scooters to be discontinued due to emergence of ebikes and escooters. From what I get from your purposes an ebike should have served your commuting needs 110%. Conservatively you could build or buy one for about $1200 to go around town about 25 mph for distances about 30 miles. Also on the upside maintenance isn't much more complicated than required for a bike (DIY), a removable battery let's you charge it at home or office without having to inconvenience yourself to fuel. Also, Uncle Sam gives you a break from insurance and registration as well. I owned and rode motorcycles for ages, but now with my ebike I commute to work, go for joy rides around town, pretty much utilize it as much as a Honda Monkey and some. I understand there are fans for these bikes. So, in my solicited my opinion, fan numbers should diminish for motorbikes like Honda Monkey and most motor scooters. I'm psyched for electric revolution, and so should most average Jane and Joe.

@@EvolutioNSwe haha, that's really good. I rarely put mine in 6th. that's where the savings really happen. when i had the '14 gt500, I upgraded some bolt ons and tune for 760hp and I couldn't believe my gas mileage. 24 mpg, I'd get. thats better than my explorer with 400 less hp. dont get me wrong as soon as I got into boost it would bring that number down but it was still up there at around 18 to 20.

I have to agree with a lot of the posts on this video. The price is way over the top and I guess they are marketing it due to its 'retro" appeal. However, I think you can purchase a much more versatile motorcycle in the used market for this price. Example, we purchased a Harley Sportster in excellent condition with 1,500 miles for $3,500 last spring. Unless you just like riding a mini bike to be unusual I don't see this as a big seller. Apparently neither does Honda or dealers if they only get in one per month. I might understand this as nice reasonable commuter bike for about $1,900 max but a "mini bike" for $4,000 kind of takes the economical transportation out of it. I am not even going to mention the multiple traffic violations in this short video. : )

I just got mine! Do you recommend putting premium gas or just regular?

It's for small people no doubt, 150 lbs. max. because 230 lbs? That's like pulling a passenger all the time. Just saying. At least it pulls it at all is a good testimony. Anyway who doesn't want a piece of their childhood? That's worth a million $$,it's bigger and better to boot! Good video BTW! Thanks
