Oh my goodness. I’m just starting to acquaint myself with the full scripture this year but this is literal Bible Study goals and what I eventually want to do.

This time of year you can find composition books for 25 cents or even 10 cents as the stores (like Walmart) discount to clear out their overage of school supplies. If you want to just play around with it and find your style this is an inexpensive way to get started. The composition books come in a variety of styles like dot grid, wide or narrow margin, and even blank ones. Also, some of the thrift stores give away Bibles (Salvation Army I know gives them away for free) or sell them at a very low cost. You can find some that could be used in Bible Journaling. They could be taken apart and used in many ways for those who don't have a printer. I would love to see more Bible-related videos. Blessings.......

Thank you for sharing this method of note taking. It's interesting and also neat! I read a few of the comments, and didn't see an answer to your question about whether or not you would use a different M# to continue making notes on a previous M-note. I watched Johnathan Edwards' video and he uses a new (the next in line) M# with reference to the M# he previously wrote, as well as referencing the new M# at the bottom of the page of the original note. Hope this helps. This is fabulous! I'm excited to get started! Thanks again!

When using Miscellanies I would add an arrow moving forward or to the right on your Proverb M001 page at the top. This would indicate you have another Proverb note as you mentioned on let’s say page 15 or page 70 wherever you are in your studies. Then on page 15 let’s say you would add an arrow moving to the left with a page number to indicate you have a prior comment on the topic. This type of threading helps you to find more easily what God inspires you to write. I hope this helps, if you have better ideas please post.

I found myself obsessing over taking bible notes and highlighting, doing bullets, making keys etc etc and I would forget the passage. It’s like the notes became the focus. Writing the whole passage is too much. What I found works for me is reading a passage, summarizing what it means and then writing how I can apply it to life.

I'm know I'm late to the comment party but if you made this video right now, I'd say please yes! I'm. Going to watch the continued videos I see after this. But this is a wonderful idea. I don't have big margins but mine is well read, marked from classes and studies and the bullet journal is the best to sort what I already have and more that I don't have room for. I have a well worn bible. I'd love to have your concordance. You and I are on the same page of dissecting to learn! I love this video!!

This is awesome! I just ordered a bullet journal that has an index and page numbers. I had also watched the Pastor’s intro to this cross referencing system and I loved it. Then I saw your video and I love the extras you included like the key index. I plan to do the same and look forward to seeing more of your videos. We begin a study of Acts at BSF in the Fall and I had already ordered the Acts ESV Journal and will be diving deep into Acts using this system. I also have that very same KJV journaling Bible you have. I just love it. Thank you for sharing!

Elyssa, Thank you very much for taking the time to elaborate on your system(s).! I was super stoked that you had seen Edwards' misc system and its bullet journal ish relevance. Also, in looking at your pens I was amped to see that the paper mate inkjoy had added colors. (Old guy/lefty/male that smears other good pens) I had just bought ESV wide margin and was looking for a good system of recording the different translations and God's goodness, and "randomly" your video appeared. So thank you very much for a well laid out video articulating the above. God Bless your future works

The Jonathan Edwards method is actually a common practice of the time called a "commonplace book." They were indexed in different ways with Johnathan Edwards indexing pages and John Locke using alphabetical indexes by topic. Anyway bullet journals were called commonplace books in the past.

Elyssa Nalani Do you think it would work to keep sermon notes in this notebook, also? I, too, was introduced to Jonathan Edwards in school (though not until college) and now that you’ve shared about his spiritual journal process, think it’s a real shame that we didn’t learn about that, too. What a treasure it would have been to have started something like this earlier in one’s Christian life. I watched the pastor’s video that you linked to and will also be rewatching his video. I need to take notes on both your video and his.
@ElyssaNalaniTV5 жыл бұрын
Oh I think keeping sermon notes in a miscellanies notebook would totally work! If you wanted to get real fancy, you could use a different color ink for sermon notes that way when you’re flipping through pages or scanning your index, your brain will pick those notes out. Just a thought! My brain thinks in color codes 😁 Yeah I think that the habit of journaling and record keeping is such a lost art nowadays and you’re absolutely right, it would be such a wonderful thing to do as early as possible in one’s Christian walk.

I just came across your channel and decided to use this system. What I would do if had a continuation, I would give it the same number as the original, only write it in a different color ink to let me know it's a continuation, and write the "M" number in my Bible in that same color ink as the continuation, rather than going to the next number . That way the different color ink would stand out and you would know in your Bible that it's a continuation. Hope that makes sense. BTW - I love your channel!

I do this on a digital bullet journal on my iPad with Apple Pencil. I’ve ditched paper entirely in all aspects of my life. I keep digital notebooks and planners. I still have my paper Bibles. But, I use the Blue Letter Bible app on split screen on my iPad with the Goodnotes app mostly. So, I can add pages anywhere I want in my Bible Study notebook and I can link to pages and all of that. So, you can link your index, add more sections if you want, etc. options are endless. And since I have the Apple Pencil I can write directly on my screen and I got a matte screen protector to make it feel like writing on paper. Going digital has saved me so much money. Not printing pictures just copy and paste them in. Not buying paper stickers, if you want stickers you can buy digital ones cheap and reuse forever! You don’t have to buy notebooks, markers, highlighters, pens, supplies, etc. So, it saves me money, it’s endlessly customizable and changeable, and I don’t have to get out a ton of supplies to study, just my iPad and maybe a paper Bible if I feel the need. So, I just wanted to leave this comment in case anyone wants to do your method, but digitally :) For some it works wonders, and others will always prefer paper. I thought I’d always prefer paper, but I made the swap and couldn’t be happier! Both are great! Swapping to digital costs money to begin with if you don’t already have an iPad and Apple Pencil. But, I was a stationary and planner hoarder, so I’m definitely saving money and space in my house!

Yesterday I made a comment, wanted to say some more about your video and how You Bullet Journal (MISCELLANIES). Hopefull to keep this short, (yea right), I have digging deep into the Jonathan Edwards Miscellanies note system. I started to listen to a few people on the system, also read some articles. This system is so awesome, so I started to use it, BUT then I discovered for my style of studying God's word this took so much time away from actually reading more of my Bible. So, I tweaked it just for me (I think when I do this I am able to use it productivity). So, I saw another gentlemen, his name escapes me, but he simplified this system to meet his needs, I guess simplified is the wrong word. anyway So I changed it a little more and used it the way he used it, with some of my personal changes. When I started using it, I loved it, until I saw your video. I am telling you the ideas you gave me, a light bulb went off in my head. FIRST OF ALL: I am impressed with your wisdom, I have found myself also writing to much in my Journal, taking away from my bible reading. I am so sure that others that use the pure Jonathan Edwards Miscellanies system didn't have this problem, but I certainly did. Also, I never thought about BUJO, I use to BUJO, but I like the way you incorportated it to this I really like. Now, its not because I don't have the time, because looking at Matthew Everhard, I liked but he somewhere else that I am not (preacher, teach etc...) and others as well as you. I get distracted so easily, for this reason I have incorporated you style with my style. Mind you I have taken everyone else and yours to make this system my own. Thank, You very much and may God richly bless you.

Hi Elyssa very nice video. When continuing a note I.E. miscellanies M0001 at the end of the note reference the continuing miscellanie M0021. Working that way you will never loose track and can have as many notes as you want. Often going back and revisiting notes rereading verses, chapters or books of the Bible you will want to add to your notes. In the TOC you can list M0021 as continuation M0001 then the title and when you run out of space for M0001 there is the reference continued in M0021 etc. etc. God Bless
@rhondacooper60075 жыл бұрын
Love your video. I am wondering something about the cross-referencing bit. If you are planning on doing more than a single volume of your notes wouldn't it be beneficial to add that to your code? For example, M001 would become MV101 standing for Misc. Volume 1 notes 1 or something like that. So when you have several volumes you will know which to go to. Just a thought. I look forward to learning from you. Blessings.

Yes! Other publishers have since come out with scripture journals in other translations, which is so awesome!!! 🤩

Love this! When I have a note to put in the margins I circle the verse number and start the note with that number. I found that boxes or circles got too bulky but of there was nothing I wouldn't realize I had a note. The smaller circles make it so o can read the text without getting distracted or it becoming hard to read (especially if you are reading aloud for a small group or something) but I would have the visual cue that I had a note for it in the margins

I've never done that but it makes sense! Yep visual cues are invaluable in note taking 😁

I don’t know how old this video is, but it would be neat if you had time maybe once or twice a month and doing a live Bible study and bullet style Bible study notes etc. that would be really cool. I’m also super intrigued by those Bible journals. I did a study through Ezekiel and took tons of notes but it would be better to have them next to the text itself.

I'm not sure if you still use this technique. But I'm interested to see an updated video and your thoughts on it months later

I will be revisiting it soon 😊

I was looking for a video exactly like this! Thank you, sister. Have you seen the ESV Illuminated Bible? It’s a journaling Bible that is beyond beautiful. My husband got it for me for our anniversary and I’ve been looking for a good journaling and not taking system. Ordered Jen’s book. So excited! Blessings to you!
