I'm ready to see 7 drivers from the bottom 4 teams in the bottom 10. That's the problem with these lists; if you're given a shitbox you need to pull a Russell to be considered slightly above average Edit: The other bottom 3 were on point, at least. Perez 10th is a bit debatable though, his qualifying was really bad Edit 2: I think Russell should be right behind Norris, in 5th. Like Norris, he had an incredible start and fell off towards the end. To get podiums, most of the time, Norris has to battle Gasly and the Ferrari, while Russell had to beat 8 cars with better pace... I think I just convinced myself to put Russell in 4th, behind Max, Sainz and Lewis Edit 3: Sainz snubbed as always :( first season in a Ferrari, beat Leclerc and got 5th in the championship. Deserved more

@yannickvaz6942 жыл бұрын
As much as I love Sainz (he's easily one of my favourite drivers on the grid), all 4 of his podiums this year required atleast one of the drivers ahead to retire. Bottas and Leclerc retired in Monaco (still a great result to qualify in P4 though) In Hungary, he crashed in qualifying (which actually saved him). Leclerc, Gasly, Norris, Ricciardo, Perez, Verstappen, and Bottas were faster than him, not to mention he only got the podium when Vettel was DSQ'd. Ferrari messed up his strategy in Sochi at the beginning, so that was on them, but he went from P8 - P3 due to the rain. It was his call to pit for inters (he definitely deserves credit for that), but without the rain he would've ended in P8 or lower. He had a great weekend at Abu Dhabi, he was in P4 for a majority of the race and deserves credit for that, but he only got the podium after Perez (who was in P3) had to retire. Considering that it was his first year, he's easily one of the standouts this year, but I don't think he deserves P2. Either P3 or P4. Maybe P5, but that seems too low.

@yannickvaz6942 жыл бұрын
@@real1sknow I agree with Monaco. Lando actually was luckier to get the podium than Sainz, he was P4 before Bottas' pitstop. I'm not sure about Imola, both Perez and Bottas were behind him, so even without the Bottas/Russell crash, and Perez spinning, it wouldn't have really affected him much. He was lucky that Lewis ran into the gravel though. Without Hamilton's mistake he would've ended in P4. I kinda agree with Austria, he got lucky with Perez out of contention, but lost his P3 to Bottas because of the resulting penalty, so that cancels it out. Again his luck was mainly because of Lewis' mistake. I don't agree with Monza. I predicted that McLaren would win in Monza few races into the season. They were fast in 2020 (people forget that they were running in P2 and P3 before the safety car, and despite restarting the race in about P7 and P8, they still finished P2 and P4, the only drivers ahead of them, Stroll and Gasly, did not pit during the safety car period). He was lucky that Bottas took an engine penalty, but the Verstappen/Hamilton collision didn't really affect him. He was ahead of both Verstappen and Hamilton at the time Lewis came out of the pits. Considering how he defended against Hamilton for the entirety of the sprint, and majority of the race (and the fact that Verstappen struggled to follow Ricciardo too), and add to that the fact that both Max and Lewis would have been more busy fighting for position between themselves, his podium finish was almost certainly guaranteed. Maybe he would've finished P3 instead of P2 though.

@grayaj232 жыл бұрын
yes, max got lucky in the final race but it's worth keeping attention to the fact that Redbull played to a possible winning scenario and that scenario is what happened. Lewis might have been able to get rid of the dinosaur tires he had, but he still would have gone out on slightly used yellows. RB saved a set of softs *in case* it came down to a late-race shootout. it did, and Merc had no answer for it. it shouldn't have happened how it did happen -- and something like an automatic red flag when a crash late in a race threatens to end the race under yellow will help prevent a recurrence of this fiasco. But even if it had been red flagged, Max with brand new softs would still have been right behind Lewis on used mediums. Wolf left his soldier out in the rain with no bullets. No one is scrutinizing Wolf's bad call because of the controversy. But we know Lewis was on the team radio inventing new swears because HE knew Wolf made a bad call.
@endthisnonsense72022 жыл бұрын
Agreed, and, not only did Red Bull play to a scenario that might not have happened, but doing so was there only chance. At the same time Mercedes completely ignored the scenario that was the only one that could lose it for Lewis, the late Safety car with a racing end of the race on 43 laps old tires with a projected life cycle of 38-40 laps. After Max pitted during the VSC, Lewis had a 23 second gap to him (watch the footage of lap 37). That was the entire duration of a pit stop without a (V)SC. The VSC was still active when Lewis was at pit entry in lap 37, a VSC pit stop costed 14 seconds. He had a free pit window and should have gotten new hards to be on 20 lap old tires at the end instead, just to have a decent chance at defense for one or two laps in the scenario they failed to take into account. Agree with the suggestion of an automatic red flag in case of late incidents, but that currently is not the way it is handled. The Latifi crash in no way warranted a red flag under current practice. Latifi was safe behind the barrier even before the VSC came out, and the crane was only on track on a very short stretch of a corner, not on a 300 KM/h straight, and no other material was needed. The suggestion by many it had to be red flagged in Abu Dhabi would have led to a serious legal issue for FIA instead of the moot threat that was retracted once Mercedes understood they had zero chance to win it.
@hail_sagan28302 жыл бұрын
> max got lucky Here’s the thing, though: late-race crashes are not unheard of, and every team should have playbooks to account for those scenarios. Being prepared for it isn’t “luck”, it’s being good. As you said, Merc sacrificed late-race strategy and left Hamilton out to dry instead of giving him fresh(er) shoes to compete with Max in the event of any kind of incident in the last 10-15 laps. It was a risky strategy and they’ve got to own it.

These are my rankings: P1 Verstappen (no question the best this year, the most consistent and sometimes unbeatable, especially in Austria and Mexico) P2 Hamilton (a small step down from last year but still he's the best alongside Max, in the last 4 races he was unstoppable) P3 Sainz (just so consistent, finished every single race, with 4 podiums as well compared to 1 from Charles, to beat him is also a statement) P4 Norris (amazing in the first half of the season, guess he didn't have the car in the later stages to match his early form) P5 Gasly (just a standout in qualifying, really outdrove the car, really should be driving for a top team) P6 Leclerc (put the car on pole 2 straight times, aside from a few spins in practice/qualifying pretty solid, should have finished ahead of Carlos) P7 Alonso (experience and race craft was impeccable, to stand on the podium again was amazing, and his defense vs. Lewis was incredible) P8 Russell (the fact he got P2, P4, & P7 in qualifying with Williams is just amazing, but the strategy helped him a lot) P9 Perez (not always consistent, but was amazing putting pressure on Hamilton, the best teammate I've seen in a long time) P10 Ocon (amazing but fortunate P1, definitely a step up from last year) P11 Bottas (was pretty shocking early on, but he was quite unlucky, did some damage limitation on Max later on in the season, though could have done more) P12 Vettel (somewhat quiet season but still got P2 in Baku and would have in Hungary if not for the dsq, tbf he was driving the 7th fastest car) P13 Ricciardo (aside from his amazing P1 in Monza, a pretty forgettable season, dominated by Lando) P14 Schumacher (in the worst car, he actually wasn't too bad, a few spins here and there but he was driving a Haas) P15 Raikkonen (pretty meh season, nothing outstanding, didn't have the team to back him up) P16 Giovinazzi (had a few amazing qualifying sessions, but could never capitalize on some of the opportunities he had, team had bad strategies though) P17 Stroll (the most dull and nothing season from everyone on the grid, got into Q3 a few times and highest race finish was P6) P18 Latifi (quitely got better from last season, was also fortunate to score some points on 2 occassions, but still bottom 5) P19 Tsunoda (very fortunate to be in the AlphaTauri, where at times the he was rapid, but was so inconsistent) P20 Mazepin (obviously, not talented enough to be in F1)

Not too strange he was unstoppable. They just threw money at it and kept swapping engines. If Max didn't have that crash in silverstone, RBR would've used 3 engines only. That move by Mercedes was a desperate attempt. Could be considered cheating.
@joshkhosrofian102 жыл бұрын
@@danbishop1619 if I could rank it again, perhaps Yuki could be maybe between P14 or P17, on his best days he was fast but on his worst days he was dismal in some qualifying sessions, not even making it out of Q1. Ideally that car should be in Q2 at the least, but on a few occasions he was in Q3. So maybe I’d put him somewhere a bit higher, also unfair that Pierre Gasly was his teammate, which made him look worse than he was. But, compare him to Kyviat from the prior season, Kyviat was a tad bit more consistent even if he wasn’t as rapid, and I’d put Kyviat pretty low in the 2020 rankings, like bottom 5 for sure, so I can still see why he’s P19 this year, but I’m general he has a lot of talent.

I partially agree, but lando definitely deserves P2 here. Lewis made many mistakes, and the only reason he wasn’t punished for it was due to him having luck, or max having bad luck. He had an amazing 2nd half of the season, but that’s also when they had the faster car. He made many mistakes, which could’ve been really costly, but due to luck they weren’t. Norris was far better in the first half, and in the second half didn’t really have the car to compete against Ferrari. Norris definitely deserves this P2

It really depends on how each person value pressure when talking about performance. Lewis was under extreme pressure all year with every spotlight on him being the defending champion and fighting against the quickest young talent on the Grid in the most complete team+mechanics package for a championship. Meanwhile once Norris started to regularly beat Ricciardo there wasn't that much pressure, therefore less mistakes. For me Lewis and Max were the two best drivers this year by a titanic margin for that reason, with Norris and Sainz behind.

How could Bottas be 14th when he Out-Qualified Lewis Quite Often and did his job of being P3 at least While Perez was in P5 for most of the season and cost Redbull the Constructors Nothing against Perez but Bottas has been better Just my opinion though
@anameyoucantremember2 жыл бұрын
The thing with Bottas is, it was his 5th year with Merc, while Perez his 1st with RB. Adaptation matters. With the exception of maybe Sainz, everybody else who switched teams struggled badly. Also, Merc had undoubtedly the best all around package this year. Perez did not "cost RB the constructors". If anything, Perez put them back in the fight. Just remember last year RB finished 254 points behind Merc. 254. Let that sink in. This year was a 28 point gap, and it could have been closer if they do not reitre Perez in Abu Dhabi for the sake of Max (or they could have won it if Bottas did not go bowling at Hungary or Max did not DNF due to puncture in Baku or due to Hamilton at Silverstone). Perez was not at his best but you could see he was at least trying and fighting that RB back, and it's fair to say he actually tamed the seat by his 2nd half of the season. Bottas tho was just apathetic and it was cringe to see him just sitting in midfield doing nothing worth mentioning, in a Merc. If this season Bottas had been on a McLaren or a Ferrari, with that attitude, he would have finished like P12 in the WDC, or lower.

I also feel if the last race with bad strategy didn't go the way it went, then Charles would be getting celebrated, because that strategy cost him the p5 even if he still finished 1 or 2 positions behind Carlos, which is a shame but as he said, better it happens this season then a season where a championship could be involved. I think that Lando had an amazing season but during the second half he just had bad luck, like in Spa, a red flag should have been called but instead, he became the red flag, in Sochi, the rain at the end completely screwed him over, in Brazil, he had a puncture of the line, in Qatar he had a puncture remove him from the top 5 positions, in Jeddah, the safety car transition to the red flag brought him down from possibly getting a podium to fighting to get back to the points, and in Yas Marina, he once again was faced with another puncture that ruined another top 5 and possibly another podium.
