I love reviews like this, and the lack of bias for any particular brands. Thanks Andy.

The rolled ankles are caused by big heels. I used to roll mine all the time with 'traditional' walking boots. If you were to walk barefoot, you would never roll an ankle. I switched to Vivobarefoot shoes and boots and have never rolled an ankle since. So nowadays I walk in those or inov8 Trailfly G270s (which I run in), or if I do decide I need to wear more of a boot, it's the inov8 Roclite Pro G400 GTX - low and wide, and I can happily do 30 miles in them. But going forward I think it'll be mostly Vivobarefoots. If I really need waterproofness, I use Dexshell socks.

I hiked in 2022 using Helly Hansen hiking shoes. Gore-tex, cool colors and has a wide heel area for stability.

Thanks for the share. I’ve had a problem with my Hanwag Banks. The sewn in tongue in one boot is painful on my ankle. I wasn’t sure if it was a manufacturing fault or an old injury. I’ve been using Scapa Vortex shoes to get round this. I guess I need to go and try other boots to get round this, as boots are needed for some walks. From what you say having had the same issue. It may well be the boot design and not me. Cheers.

Keen were offering a normal AND a wide fit (which I need, as did a friend of mine) but I've heard that they stopped IT. My friend had to send his new ones back. I have a previous design of Salomon mid height boot & I love them.

Same wet rock issues with Salomon. Their Contagrip just doesn't work that well in the UK and Ireland except on the driest hiking days.

I tend to use Lowa, Aku, Iturri, Meindl, Hanwag boots for hiking trekking etc they maybe a lot heavier but it's what I'm use to, I did use some fabric hiking boots but wasn't impressed with the support at all.

That's just my opinion. I purchased them because lots of people rate them. However, I do find 'ultalighters' rate everything highly just because it's light. Personally I prefer comfort over weight.

All i want is a pair canvas /fabric walking boots that dont let the water in after walking though 3 inch wet grass . currently about to take the dogs out in doc martens Chelsea boots , as my waterproof boots sre drying out !

Interested to know how you've gone with the Quest 4. Mine have lost all waterproofing after about 10 x 2 day walks. One fully soaked foot within an hour of easy (gravel path) walking in light rain. A real shame, as they are super comfortable, with excellent ankle support and nice lacing control. Agree with you on the wet rock grip though. I'm moving onto the AKU to see whether they are more durable. Nice video. Subscribed!

Just bought some of the Aku boots same as you have going off your review walked 18 miles today and the end of the walk had to go through 3 slightly boggy field's and this was the first time the brand new boots had been in a wet field all the walk bar this was dry and my feet are wet 😴 3rd pair of boots since January the 8th has had to take 2 pairs of karrimor back as was falling to bit's 😔😔😔
@BackpackingUK9 ай бұрын
Did you NikWax them? I use it on all my boots from Day 1.
@davidroberts69779 ай бұрын
I haven't yet no 😅 was only their second outing and didn't plan to go through any fields to be Honest but it was right at the end of the walk and when I got back both feet was wet from like where the boots meet the sole on both sides and over tops of toes. Will be cleaning and treating tomorrow and Also speaking to their customers service team as my first 60 quid pair of karrimor boots kept my feet dryer before starting to fail after a couple of walks. The Aku also seem very firm on the sole and the insoles seem rather thin Also . Ordered them in from Germany ended up standing me at 140£

You’ve got a new sub 😁 Great footage, but don’t be scared to get your face on camera! It feels weird at first but then you get used to it and actually start enjoying it. Tip: Keep your GoPro / Phone in your pocket. If they’re warm the battery lasts a lot longer. Next tip: buy a selfie stick!
