@joestravels3027
@joestravels3027 Жыл бұрын
Sorry for the delay. Did you get your system back up and running? I’m not sure what you mean by resetting the systems, but if it ever gets wonky, I’d turn off the battery, disconnect from the tow vehicle and shore power, and then remove the fuse at the solar controller. That should kill all electricity to the coach, and reset any systems that may have gone haywire. The inverter remote, for instance, can get an annoying error message if you get the battery too low.

I am thinking that the cabling was ok unless it was improperly installed. The chances that the battery was the sole problem are very high.

Larger cables have ZERO to do with anything. Heavier (thicker) cables just means less resistance, less impedance, odds are your issues were an improperly crimped connector making poor contact, or a failed battery.

@@joestravels3027 In my opinion, the units are made that way on purpose because when the unit starts up from off it draws tons of current. If they leave the fan running it draws less. They want our off grid situation to last as long as possible. If they had a sensor to known when power was not coming from grid, they could act the way we want when we are plugged in. It's probably too costly :(
@joestravels3027

@@larryg7427 perhaps. I still think a standard a/c with a soft start system would be just as efficient, if not more so, because the fan doesn’t run constantly. Someday, I’ll have to test that out on another camper, and monitor the kw usage for both in the same ambient temperatures with the same indoor temp settings, etc. over a period of at least a few hours (so you can see whether or not there really is a benefit with the truma system, or if it’s all marketing). I’m not convinced yet.

@@larryg7427 That's exactly what it is. Most of the wear and tear and battery draw comes from restarting the compressor over and over. This AC is so much more quiet than the Coleman Mach ones that ship in so many RV units. It's loudest setting is quieter than what I'm used to. I upgraded my Coleman Mach to have a soft start and to kick off when temperature is reached, but the Truma I checked out was incredibly quiet and draws such a low amperage. Very impressive. I would be ecstatic to have it here in Texas.

Pay for a trailer designed for cold weather camping by having the valves contained in the heated underbelly and the dealer fix is to scab on an external valve. I would have refused the trailer until it was properly fixed. Poor service.

Honestly, I’m kinda glad they didn’t try to fix it properly, because they’d have to cut open the underbelly, remove insulation, etc. and seeing their handiwork, I’m not convinced they’d be able to put it all back together correctly.

Hi Joe. Very informative video. I just looked at the Micro Mini 2306BHS. We want to scale down from our 36' Montana Legacy that I loaded with 4-100a battle born lithium batts, 500w solar, MPPT controller, victron 3000w inverter and progressive dynamics power mgmt. I really like the layout and the bunk house for carrying our e-bikes or the grandkids. It'll be nice not pulling 13,500k with our move from CA to FL. Could you answer some questions for me? 1. Does the EZ Glide sofa have storage under the chairs? That's one thing I like with dinette as I will probably install a oven under the cooktop. 2. I can't tell if the FLX bunkhouse has the door for loading gear. Do you know? 3. Pricing here in NorCal is 43k and change for the 2306BHS Micro Minnie. Is pricing better in FL? 4. I like what the FLX offers but I was going to use my 4-BB 100a batts I already have. Cost $950 ea. BTW. I had an old 2000 Xantrex that ran great for about 10 years. They're good units. Thanks for any information.
@joestravels3027
@joestravels3027 2 жыл бұрын
Sounds like you had an awesome setup. The ez glide sofa does not have storage below, unfortunately. There is storage behind it, but it’s kind of awkwardly shaped, and imho, wasted space. If I could do it over again, I’d get the dinette because you do get the storage underneath. The FLX bunkhouse does have the door for gear at the bunks. $43k sounds like a great price. They’re listed in the low $50’s here, or $48k in Georgia. It sounds like you’re handy, snd have the batteries already (some of the more expensive components of the FLX), so unless you’re wanting some of the other FLX upgrades, you might want to look into the standard Micro Minnie for around $30k. Add a few thousand for another solar panel and inverter, and you’ve basically got a FLX minus the showermiser, the a/c (which I’m still not sold on) and the Truma appliances. On the plus side, you’d have a gas/electric water heater (which will save you lpg when on shore power), you’d have the ducted dometic a/c (which admittedly is louder, but has plenty of aftermarket parts like soft starts, noise dampeners, etc., and it turns off when it reaches its set temperature), and you’d get the kitchen range hood vent (for some reason Winnebago seems to be excluding them on the FLX only) and the rooftop vent over the bed where it should be to allow better airflow from front to back (they move the rooftop vent from the bed area to the kitchen area, presumably to compensate for the missing range hood vent).
@mikeyR1119
@mikeyR1119 2 жыл бұрын
@@joestravels3027 The 43k is a non-FLX price here in NorCal. I saw 48k for FLX and 35k for non at RV Wholesalers with 15k AC. Your suggestion about adding components to non-FLX model is a great idea. I assume installing ShowerMiser would not be difficult-great idea for small FW/GW tanks!? In your experience, do I need a 15k A/C for FL? I might be able to run the 13.5k with combined inverter/generator when boondocking. Also, my wife uses oven for casseroles and biscuits, I wondered about adding oven (lose the two drawers) or does micro/convection work ok? Thanks a lot for your great idea and didn't intend to hijack your vid. All of them are great and helpful BTW. Mike
@joestravels3027
@joestravels3027 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the good feedback. That sounds too expensive for a non-FLX model. The showermiser might be a little difficult because you’d need to remove the shower wall and probably some panelling in the kitchen area to plumb it in. The FLX has a 13.5k btu, which seems to be adequate for Florida, although the peak of summer isn’t here yet. My 2019 had a 15k btu unit, which I really liked. I installed a MicroAir Easy Start, which I highly recommend, and it allowed me to run that 15k a/c off of a 2.2kw generator or 15A service at home. I haven’t had a chance to really use the convection oven but so far I prefer it to the lpg oven in my 2019 Micro Minnie. That thing was horrible, and didn’t cook evenly. I’ve got a convection oven at home as well, so it’s familiar, and I expect I’ll be happy with the one in the Winnebago.

So sorry you had so many issues with your new trailer. What a drag. Would you be able to explain a bit further which cabling was too large on the electrical? I was told wrong by the dealership. Apparently they didn’t know that when you’re talking about wiring, the smaller the number, the bigger the wire. So, the wiring was too small. Lithionics tells me it only affected the first three (or maybe it was six?) units produced, and they were looking into identifying and correcting those first units.

I also have the inverter switch off as you instructed and when I turn on or off by remote I have no idea what to look for to tell me if the inversion is happening or not. @joestravels3027
@joestravels3027 2 жыл бұрын
I haven’t paid attention to which fan is running, but yes, I can hear a fan running even when the inverter off, both on shore power and occasionally when on battery power. On shore power, the inverter will be charging the battery so that makes sense that it would be on. I think the fan only runs on battery power for a short time after switching the inverter off. I haven’t noticed it making any sounds when the inverter is off and I’m only using battery power. The remote mounted by the door will show you whether it’s inverting or not. If you are on shore power, the screen will be active (though it may need to be woken up by a button press). If you have the switch in the basement off, and you’re not on shore power, then the remote screen will only be active if the system is inverting. So press a button on the remote. If nothing happens, and you’re not on shore power, then you are not inverting. On the remote, you’ll also have little lights on the right hand side that indicate whether you’re on battery power or grid/shore power.
@larryg7427
@larryg7427 2 жыл бұрын
It seems that the inverter is always on. It handles the routing of shore power and inverted power. What I found was that the switch should be off on the device in the compartment and on the remote for the device, on the wall near the door, you can switch on or off from there. First off, if you leave it on with the remote, if the power goes out from the park then it will auto switch to the battery and inverted power. My park power went out and that switch turns on or off the 120v outlets in the rv when there is no park power. It's easier to understand the switch when not connected to park power and running in off grid mode. I hope this helps someone!

I was going to reach out to Dorsey at Truma on Monday about it, but I guess there’s really no sense doing it now. I would like to add a third 190w GoPower panel, I’m thinking it’ll be a tight fit. Great video Joe and great comments from other viewers. Yes, please keep us updated on your progress and your overall reviews and impressions. Question, does anyone now how many FLX units have been made? Also, is $45K a good price - what does that include? I see the MSRP is very inflated. I'm looking to trade up to this unit from a smaller camper and like the idea of being able to use the AC when no shore power is available at a rest stop, harvest host, or parking area without requiring anything at all on the exterior of the vehicle (such as a generator for example). To me this is the only available camper that is this self sufficient straight from a manufacturer, without a lot of mods (not up for DIY). Are there any other manufacturers I should look at here in the US? I know there are many caravan manufacturers in Australia and Europe that have specialty units designed for boondocking - but if they are not generally available in US they aren't of interest.

I paid $44k as an early adopter. I think the take may not have been as high as expected on these, so I’ve seen them lately for around $40k. But you’re right, the msrp is unrealistic. This is the only camper I’ve found that has the capabilities you are looking for right out of the box. There are some bigger campers that attain similar capabilities, but do it through an onboard generator and larger tanks. I like the FLX integrated solutions better, personally. But as a new product (and the Lithionics battery is a brand new product as well), there are likely to be some issues along the way.

@@joestravels3027 thanks for the reply. Yes, there is always some pain in being an early adopter. I see the entire industry moving in this direction, meaning an electric RV, so while it maybe rocky right now, Winnebago has put together a very nice package and if they continue to perfect it, they’ll easily gain market share and be way out in front of their competitors.

You said the always on air conditioner fan was loud? I thought it was a very quiet system?
@joestravels3027
@joestravels3027 2 жыл бұрын
It is relatively quiet (relative to some other RV a/c units, particularly ones advertised as low draw or efficient) but the drone is constant, which annoys me. It’s a matter of preference, though. Some people will deliberately set the fan to run all night, because the off and on annoys them. Personally I prefer the off and on as needed, and I preferred the old ducted a/c that the standard Micro Minnie has. With minor mods, you can get that system to be just as quiet, and it distributes the air better throughout the coach.

Honestly, I hate the Powerboost F150. It’s had recall after recall, and doesn’t live up to its hype. Ford made a lot of promises regarding the capabilities and future software updates, etc., but they haven’t followed through on any of them. I’ve placed on order for a GMC Sierra with the 3.0L Duramax, which I think/hope will be a much more reliable tow vehicle. My last six vehicles before this one were GM and I never had a single problem with any of them. Regarding the camper, Lithionics confirmed that the batteries can be wired in parallel if you want to add another. There’s a little bit of a process to “sync” the lithium batteries, and they say fusing and cabling size will need to be adjusted. Another solar panel can be added but I think it will require some minor rewiring because the two currently installed are wired in series (change to parallel?). The MPPT controller can handle up to 600W of solar panels. If you want to do more, you’d need to add another MPPT controller (up to 5 controllers with up to 3,000W solar array). You’d quickly run out of roof though.

@joestravels3027

No. The inverter needs to be on for the ac to run. 20% was with me managing it by running the ac until the coach eas comfortable then turning off the inverter.

Do you have a contact you can send me at Lithionics that can help me get them replaced with the thinner ones so I don't have the problems you had? Thanks! --Larry

I was misinformed when I made this video. In a later video, I corrected that statement. In talking with Lithionics directly, in spite of what the dealership told me, Lithionics confirmed that they increased the size of the cables to a 2/0. Now that makes sense to me. Double-check that that’s what you have, as they said they’re putting that in every camper going forward. In fact, I looked at the owners manual for the battery and it specifically says to use 2/0, which Winnebago apparently didn’t do on my unit. I emailed Lithionics to confirm, so I’ll let you know when they respond, but I believe they kept the model number the same, but internally they’ve tweaked the circuitry and software. I’ve asked him how to tell which battery you’ve got. I assume by build date. They have been very helpful with questions, but ultimately they can’t (or won’t?) do any warranty work directly. If you do need work done, you’ll have to go through a Winnebago dealer. Hopefully you’ve got the upgraded version already.
@joestravels3027

I’ve got an update from Lithionics. The issues that I had were only on the first four units they manufactured. I knew I had an early unit but I didn’t realize I was that early. Given that the issue was confined to so few units, it would be unlikely that you have it. He said he’d try to see if they can get a list of units that got those four batteries though.

I’ll be putting that up there instead. Thanks for the great video. Lots of useful information. It looks like it's been 2+ months since it was originally posted. I'm wondering if Truma has been in contact with you and if there has been a satisfactory resolution to the AC fan problem. Also, since we're officially in "summer" now, how do you rate the AC unit for cooling, and energy efficiency (how quickly does it drain the battery in hotter weather)?
@joestravels3027
@joestravels3027 2 жыл бұрын
Truma has not. I followed up twice but they stopped responding. Clearly they’re not interested. That said, I know a lot of people prefer it the way that it is (so that it doesn’t turn off and on during the night and wake you up). Personally, I disagree, but to each their own. I just wish it had the option, like the dometic in my last Micro Minnie did. The ac unit works well overall. It does take some time to cool in the dead heat of summer but once it gets there, it maintains temperature easily. You can help the initial cool down by cracking a window and turning on the bathroom vent to suck the hot air out while the ac starts to do its work. I installed a maxxair fan, which does a way better job of pushing or pulling air. And because these new campers are coming without a range vent, I found a more powerful fan is a necessity. Otherwise you’ll set off your smoke detector every time you cook. Anyhow, depending on your ambient temperature and preferred temperature settings (I do 72 degrees in 95 or so weather), I can get about 12 hours out of it, with the compressor cycling on and off. The problem is, you’re SOL the next day because the solar panels can’t recharge your battery overnight. Unfortunately, in my humble opinion (and I do it myself) a generator is still needed. But that generator doesn’t need to run the entire time, just long enough to charge the battery back up (an hour or two to get another 12 hours of a/c). So, long story short, it has its limitations, but they’re easy enough to work around, and it’s still better than anything else I’ve found out there.

@@joestravels3027 You have probably solved this by now but just in case....I had an old Lazy Daze RV and when I brought it in to have a new AC installed they offered to wire a thermostat that would allow it to turn on and off as needed. I can't believe how many issues people are having with brand new trailers. I was gonna upgrade my current trailer this year but I think I mite take your advice and wait another year or two. I'm just afraid that the price increases that probably will come over the next couple of years may not make it worth it to wait. What do you think about what I'm saying.
@joestravels3027
@joestravels3027 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I agree. It’s so hard to predict the future pricing. That was one of the reasons I bought this when I did, because prices are climbing. I’m not sure yet whether or not that was a smart move. Prices could go up, but prices could almost as easily go down if demand collapses. People keep saying that Covid campers are going to hit the market soon and drive prices down, but I have yet to see that happen.
