Ok, my predictions : - KCD2 will be a fantastic game, but plagued by buttloads od bugs and technical issues. It will take months of patches and mods to (mostly) fix it - Someone from AAA(A) studio will say something incredibly braindead and will be hounded for this for the rest of the year and in years to come - Payday3 will either bounce back or finaly die - Some game will came out of nowhere, became instant, planet wide phenomenon and then die like half a year later - GTA6 will be deleayed to 2026 and get a lot of flakk for this

Payday 3 is likely doomed this year regardless of they do because Den of Wolves is slated to release this year. Even if I'm worried if 10 Chambers has learned to not go as hard in their difficulty huffing side as GTFO did, it likely wouldn't take much to whatever's left of Payday's playerbase to get absorbed into DoW.

I appreciate the talk about the voice actor strike. At a young age I learned I was really good at recognizing peoples voices. So I'd be able to point out your Jennifer Hales and Steve Blums even before seeing the cast list. So, I got a love for voice acting and the actors and actresses. Is this your personal GOTY? For me it's Monster Hunter Wilds. I love this series and the games I've anticipated the most in it are MH4 and Wilds. So I haven't been this excited for a new entry in a long time. Hard to beat that.

The prediction of KCD 2 winning game of the year is wild imho, not because the game looks bad or anything but because it is way too niche to get that much coverage and mainstream appeal for that. The first game was never in the conversion for even best RPG when it came out so the best KCD 2 can do is get a best RPG nomination if it ends up being really good imho. What has a more realistic chance to win game of the year: GTA VI, Monster Hunter: Wilds, Ghost of Yotei, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, DOOM: The Dark Ages or Crimson Desert. If Hades II comes out of early access or Hollow Knight: Silksong actually comes out then they got a chance as well.

If they pull off doom: the dark ages well, I think it has a real shot at being goty, more than the other games you listed. If there's one thing gamers like, it's depth in the combat, and doom eternal has that in spades. I'm sure they'll somehow improve it even more in Doom: the dark ages.

I hope you're right about KCD2. For one thing, I loved the first one and hope the 2nd is GotY caliber. More than that, I hope it gets the exposure and audience that Warhorse studios deserves, because they're really the only game in town for this kind of RPG and I want them to get more success so they can keep delivering. Deeply immersive historical RPGs are basically nonexistent outside of the KCD series.

I actually think it would be kinda cool to get both Skyblivion and the Oblivion remake. Although a mod project like that can often be delayed and delayed. Of all the massive mods (Skywind, Beyond Skyrim) its the least interesting imo, because I can just go ahead and play Oblivion itself and not be too bothered by the jank, unlike Morrowind.

I'm more excited about the official remake over skyblivion, mainly because I very much prefer oblivion's gameplay over Skyrim's. I know a lot of people hate the level system, but I like it, it has depth whereas Skyrim's is watered down. You can also get around the poor enemy scaling by leveling efficiently and stopping at a certain level, so it's not too bad at all. I wouldn't mind if they changed the scaling though, because then I'd be able to get to level 30+ without taking a full year to take down a goblin warlord 😂.

On the Oblivion remake/remaster: As I sort just reinstalled Skyrim and a ton of mods, I have been thinking about this. It is easy to forget, both Oblivion and Skyrim were originally 32 bit programs, if I am not wrong, limited the memory they could use to 4GB. While Skyrim got updates to 64 bits with the remaster so Oblivion could get this too, but there are a couple problems: While Skyrim got the remasters early one, where community still very active, so the mods could make the jump between versions, and even this wasn't without confusion, as there are mods which either work in the special edition or the anniversary one, plus the ones which remained in the original version. I suspect, that most people moved from Oblivion, many mods could be forever limited to the original version only. Now, Oblivion got a lot of cut content, which could be restored, so that is an angle which they could approach, but I am not sure if it would be enough, even if I really liked Oblivion when I played.

Skyrim is still one of the most popular VR games. I’m not sure if Syblivion will support VR, but if the Oblivion remake does, that could be a big selling point for a small group of people. A much larger group of people are likely to grab it if they manage to squeeze it onto the Quest 3. I assume there would be compromises in that version but I don’t think it’s impossible to pull off. Asgard’s Wrath is smaller than Oblivion but pretty impressive.

I think it’d be cool if KCD 2 won GOTY, but the first one didn’t seem to hit mainstream popularity enough for the second entry to reach that level. If GTA 6 actually releases this year, I think it’ll be GOTY (not necessarily my personal pick, but we’ll see). I have some optimistic predictions, that the layoff situation could actually cause a sort of "desert spring" type situation with talent going to this surge of smaller studios being formed by senior creative leads tired of AAA bullshit (lack of ownership, inept suits making bozo decisions, corporate culture). Ghost Story Games [Ken Levine], Pixel Castle [Greg Street], Archetype [Former Bioware devs]. We're hearing stories of giant brain drain on the Starfield team that all went separate ways to do their own thing as well. Speaking of Bethesda, the modding scene is something I'm also optimistic about with Baldur's Gate 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 really threatening the sway Bethesda held over modding as an ecosystem and their creation club offerings being very poor value and unsatisfying leads me to believe that the modding scene will hopefully ignore any bonehead decisions they make to try to control the ecosystem and remain player-controlled and value/freedom first. Next year is also ofc the year of Obsidian, my favorite studio as well. I expect Avowed to do well and Outer Worlds 2 to be very much a smash hit. My GOTY submission for winner is Hades II once it's officially released and qualifies for it in 2025, I don't think Kingdom Come has the mass-appeal to make it happen

I think if recency bias is ignored, GOTY will be either Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, or KCD 2. I agree KCD 2 looks amazing, but will probably have a lot of issues. I will probably look for it on sale and spend the end of the year playing it.

- About GOTY: There are some huge releases coming in 2025 but they are not all confirmed so it is very difficult to tell. If GTA releases, obviously that's gonna be the favorite, there's also Ghost of Yotei and Death stranding 2 from the playstation side of things that are also unconfirmed for the year and those are also possible contenders. If none of them release or they are dragged down by controversies or other issues then the biggest contender will be Monster Hunter Wilds I think. There's other big releases such as the elden ring spinoff, new doom game, kingdom come 2 etc. but I do not think they will be contenders for GOTY. - My biggest prediction: We will have an announcement for a new half life game. I don't know whether that's gonna be HL3 or not but we will have something, maybe Alyx 2 or something else. - We will also get another announcement from Fromsoftware. Maybe about a new IP.

My personal prediction for this year is that 2025 will be a golden year for gaming in terms of switch 2 releasing, gta 6, all the remakes of classic jrpgs and also all the new RPGs we are getting and the release of the rtx 5000 series cards will spark new pc performance and overall we may see many releases that will require upgrades for those who have been patiently awaiting new hardware or thinking of getting into pc gaming. Also hand held gaming is going to become the new default standard for gaming rather than traditional consoles with the exception of switch 2. Also half life 3 releases is my big prediction and valve may give us a proper new steam console like experience after all the success of steam deck and steam OS development.

I predict a macroeconomic downturn outside of the VG industry will drive prices up and demand down, especially for AAA games. Besides $60-70 pricetags being too rich for many, the tech industry will also be affected, making it harder for folks to afford consoles and cutting edge gaming rigs. Not a crash, but I think the VG market will shrink, causing more layoffs and cancellations.

If it manages to come out this year (release still says 2025) I think Ghost of Yotei will win GOTY. I think Kingdom Come II will be big in the the CRPG fandom, but I don't know if it'll cross over into mainstream enough to take it all. I can see it winning RPG of the year though. Also me personally I can't wait for Monster Hunter Wilds and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. MH because I love MH and Clair because I just love turn based RPGs and it reminds me a lot of Final Fantasy.

My predictions - Ubisoft will be purchased by Tencent after the failure of thier assassin's creed game - Marathon will be the live service breaking point, forcing many studios with live service games in development to switch what type of game they are making - The switch 2 will have a weaker launch than the first switch - South of midnight and perfect dark will not release this year - Elder scrolls 6 will be confirmed to be taking place in hammerfell and will get a new trailer.

I predict we will still get more flops from AAA studios who still seem to have no idea what their gaming audience want. I also pray that we will get more gems from smaller companies to keep us entertained.

Honestly, as the target audience of an oblivion remake, I would probably play both skyblivion and an official remake.

I think you forgot about the elephant in the room. 2025 is supposed to be the release of GTA 6. While I’d say there is a not insubstantial chance in gets delayed to 2026, it’s been in continuous development for several years from one of the most well-funded studios out there. If it meets the quality of their previous interactions, I’d say GTA 6 is a shoe in for GOTY.

As I recall KCD took a long time to get good because of bugs. I almost never buy newly released games for this reason and will wait 1-3 years or more.

My Goty guess is probably towards Monster Hunter Wilds that or whatever Nintendo is hiding behind the Switch 2 is probably a safe bet

Well.. I was hoping for SQ42 but that push back to 2026. KCD2 looks good but hopefully I'll have my GPU by then. Absolutely interested in what Owlcat Games create. Also news of what Larian Studios is up to.. even though no games coming in the near future. Also Wayward Realms.. hoping more news on the development in 2025. Seems like I'm waiting on news.. than games.. lol Did not know there was an official remake or remaster of Oblivion. I'd play both BUT Skyblivion is the one I'm waiting on.. Think I'm gonna need a another SSD.. Hehe..

I've been hearing rumors for a long time now that valve is doing half life stuff behind closed doors again. If HL3 releases this year, KCD2 would get pushed to the side for goty

goty for the masses will most likely be gta 6. This game could release unfinished and it would still have a huge following.
